later appended the number eight (ba in Chinese)， giving us the current Laba

.

The majority Han Chinese have long followed the tradition of eating Laba

rice porridge on the Laba Festival. The date usually falls in mid-Janua.

Laba rice porridge was first introduced to China in the Song Dynasty about

900 years ago.

Buddhism was well accepted in the areas inhabited by the Han Chinese， who

believed that Sakyamuni the first Buddha and founder of the religion， attained

enlightenment on the eighth day of the twelfth month. Sutras were chanted in the

temples and rice porridge with beans， nuts and dried fruit was prepared for the

Buddha. With the passing of time the custom extended， especially in rural areas

where peasants would pray for a plentiful harvest in this way.

There is， however， another touching story： When Sakyamuni was on his way

into the high mountains in his quest for understanding and enlightenment， he

grew tired and hungry. Exhausted from days of walking， he fainted away by a

river in India. A shepherdess found him there and fed him her lunch -- porridge

made with beans and rice. Sakyamuni was thus able to continue his journey.

Today, my friend was ten years old and his family gave him a big party. He

asked me to join his party, which was such a big party. His home was full of

balloons. What a lively atmosphere was. We sang the birthday song to him and

sent our best wishes. We played funny games and had a great time.

Zhang Ying is my good friend. She’s in Class1, Grade4 in Tianjiao Primary

School. She’s a model student. She’s smart and she’s helpful, too. She often

helps teachers and young students at school. She is good at Chinese, math,

English, arts and crafts, music and so on. She has a lot of hobbies. She likes

painting and drawing. And she likes listening to music, having picnics with her

parents. Oh yeah, she likes fishing, too. But she doesn’t like playing

basketball, football, table tennis or volleyball. Zhang Ying is the best friend

of mine. I like playing with her. We always work together and help each

other.

I like to watch Disney films very much. Mickey Mouse is my favorite cartoon

image. I find Mickey Mouse and giant panda look so much alike. Both of them have

round faces and two lovely ears. I can’t help myself watching giant panda on the

Internet every day. They attract so many visitors to look at them. I love

panda.

On Sunday morning, I and ching-ching, clearly three good friends go to

outdoor outing, we passed through the stream, and the woods, we play a fun game:

hide and seek, the eagle catches chicken game, such as when you take a hat with

the wind still running around, we spent a pleasant day.
