Saving Water

The world is not only hungry,but also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you, since nearly 75 % of the earths surface is covered with water. But about 97% of this huge amount is sea water, or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3% -- the fresh water that comes from rivers, lakes,underground, and other sources. And we cannot even use all of that, because some of it is in the form of icebergs and glaciers. Even worse, some of it has been polluted.

However, as things stand today, this small amount of fresh water, which is constantly being replaced by rainfall, is still enough for us. But our need for water is increasing rapidly-- almost day by day. Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now can we avoid a severe worldwide water shortage later on. A limited water supply would have a bad effect on agriculture and industry. Let me give you just one small exampie of how necessary water is to industry. Did you know that to produce a single ton of steel, it takes about 91, 000 liters of water?

We all have to learn how to stop wasting our precious water. One of the first steps we should take is to develop ways of reusing it. Experiments have already been done in this field, but only on a small scale. For us, the systems are as important as the spacecraft.

汞是唯一在常温下呈液体的金属元素。俗称“朱砂”。汞可溶于水，空气中。它巨大的毒性令人谈之色变。它主要来源于电池等物品。据统计1970~1979年全世界直接向水体排放的汞总量达1.6万吨!排向大气的汞量也达10万吨。当水中或空气中的汞浓度过高时，会导致树木枯死，人类患上因汞摄入过高引发的病症，如日本南部九州湾有一个叫水俣的小镇，这里居住着4万居民，以渔业为生。1939年开始，日本氮肥公司的合成醋酸厂开始生产氯乙烯，工厂的生产废水一直排放入水误湾。该公司在生产氯乙烯和醋酸乙烯时，使用了含汞的催化剂，使废水中含有大量的汞。这种汞在水体中，被水中的鱼食用，在鱼体内转化成有毒的甲基汞。人食用鱼后，汞在人体内聚集从而产生一种怪病：患者开始时，只是口齿不清，步履蹒跚，继而面部痴呆，全身麻木，耳聋眼瞎，最后变成神经失常，直至躬身狂叫而死。1972年据环境厅统计，水误镇共患水误病180人，死亡50多人，就在新线县阿赫野川亦发现100多水误病患者，8人死亡。据报到，患者人数远不止此，仅水误镇的受害居民，即达万余人。

环保事业说大很大，说小很小。往大的说，可以造成成片的水域污染。往小了说，只要我们每人从身边的小事做起，人人环保低碳，环保事业也可以是一件很小的事。如果我们少用些塑料袋，少乱丢些垃圾，那么这个世界上便会少些随风飘舞的白，多些生机勃勃的绿;也会少些乌黑肮脏的河，多些碧蓝清澈的湖。

如果我们每个人在地上看见一个塑料袋不是直接走过，而是弯腰拾起;如果我们每人不是随意乱丢垃圾，而是做到合理分类垃圾;如果我们每人都少用些塑料袋，多用些环保袋。那么我相信地球母亲会少些愤恨的泪水。

保护环境，从我们身边做起!

Today, pollution has become a serious problem to us. It means that the air， seas， rivers and land are polluted by waste or poisonous things. It does harm not only to human beings but also to animals (It does harm to animals， as well as human beings.)。

We cannot have fresh air because many factories have the poisonous smoke sent into the air. Beautiful parks are made dirty by plastic tins and bags. Fish die from the polluted water. It is said that strange diseases have appeared in some places because of pollution.

I hope scientists can find ways to solve the serious problem. We are looking forward to seeing the clear sky， clean rivers and beautiful parks again.

If we dont take care of our lovely campus and make it hurt, we will suffer harm and harm our health.

Today, we need to protect the environment as our obligation to protect the environment with our actual actions. We should know how to protect the environment is to protect ourselves, we should not only use resources rationally, whenever they want to protect the environment, as a student, we should create more green campus. Starts from the minor matter, starts from now, starts from the care for the campus and protect the environment, picked up a piece of paper on the ground and save every drop of water, cherish every inch, walk more, dont cross the green, the grass. Nowadays, a new lifestyle called carbon life is spreading every corner of our country. The conceps of low carbon are low energy and no waste. Firstly, a no-car day is supposed to set up every week in our city. Because cars not only cause serious air pollution but also waste energy. Its a good idea to go to school or go to work by bus,on foot and bu subway.

Secondly, we had better not use plastic bags any more. Nobody can stand the "white pollution".As we all know, people cant get the free plastic bags in the shops or supermarkets. Now in this way, people pay more attention to the environment and use fewer plastic bags. Instead of using the plastic bags, wed better use the cloth bags or use bags which can be reused again and again.

Finally, one thing that we should keep in mind, we should turn off the lights when we leave, turn of the tap in time, and reuse our textbooks and bottles. We shouldnt spit in a public place and we shouldnt trow litter onto the ground. We should plant more flowers and trees and we must pick up some rubbish and throw it into the dustbin.

In a word, let us try our best to protect the environment. If everyone makes contribution to portecting the environment, the world will become much more beautiful.
