The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant (有意义的)holiday celebrated (庆祝)in China, and the one with the longest history (历史最悠久). The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by boat races (龙舟赛) in the shape of dragons. Competing teams (竞争团队) row their boats forward to a drumbeat (击古)racing to reach the finish end first.

The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs (传统习俗)to attempts to (试图)rescue (搭救) the patriotic poet (爱国诗人)Chu Yuan. Chu Yuan drowned (溺死) on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C. Chinese citizens now throw bamboo leaves (竹叶) filled with cooked rice into the water. Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating tzungtzu and rice dumplings(棕子).

The celebrations is a time for protection (防护) from evil (邪恶) and disease (疾病) for the rest of the year. It is done so by different practices such as hanging healthy herbs on the front door, drinking nutritious concoctions (营养品), and displaying (展示) portraits (画像) of evils nemesis(邪恶报应), Chung Kuei. If one manages to (成功做...) stand (直立)an egg on its end at exactly 12:00 noon, the following year will be a lucky one.

It was a hot day during my summer holidays in 2003. My mother and I got on the bus which would take us to the village where my grandma lived. It was so hot that I felt very thirsty. Then I began to think of the sweet big watermelons and other fruits in Grandma’s house. I could hardly wait to arrive there and see my grandma.

It took us one more hour to get there. When we walked into the house, Grandma was busy preparing lunch in the kitchen. 这天，为了迎接新年的到来。家家户户张灯结彩、贴春联、挂灯笼、放鞭炮舞狮的戏班子也开始在每家每户表演。爷爷告诉我说舞狮的笑面佛要破每家设下的阵，才能离开，所以我们就要提前摆阵。第一个阵叫姜太公钓鱼；第二个阵叫南桥戏水；第三个阵叫四季发财；第四个阵叫太子读书。经过一番准备后，舞狮的戏班子终于到了。笑面神一一破阵，到了最后一关太子读书，就是我来把守。笑面神要破阵，就要找到我藏的红包，偷偷告诉你们，我的红包就在左脚的鞋垫下面。最后，笑面神找的差不多都快把我的衣服扒光了，哈哈，机智如我！可谁知，笑面神居然给我挠痒痒，痒得我直喊饶命。结果不得不说出我藏的红包在哪里。虽然红包被笑面佛拿走了，但我心里依然乐滋滋的。

晚上，全家人一起动手做出了拿手的美味佳肴：红烧牛肉、酸菜鱼汤、油焖大虾、顿羊肉真是令人垂涎三尺啊。热腾腾的饭菜，浓浓的年味，好幸福啊！

吃完团圆饭后，一家人一起左坐到沙发上看春晚，有说有笑。

随着新年的钟声敲响，已离我们远去，而我们却和2017年迎个满怀！
