这本书写得也很有文学色彩。作者幽默的笔墨使一个性格鲜明的小人物跃然纸上。有人说，方渐鸿是作者本人的影子，无论是真是假，方渐鸿这个人物作者描写得非常到位。作者的笔墨幽默，在几处人物的外貌描写中也得以体现。
