Throughout history man has changed his physical environment in order to improve his way of life. With the tools of technology he has altered many physical features of the earth. He has transformed woodlands and prairies into farms and made lakes and reserviors out of rivers for irrigation purposes or hydroelectric power. Man has also modified the face of the earth by draining marshes and cutting through mountains to build roads and railways.

However, mans changes to the physical environment have not always had beneficial results. Today, pollution of the air and water is an increasing danger to the health of the planet. Each day thousands of tons of gases come out of the exhausts of motor vehicles. Smoke from factories pollutes the air of industrialized areas and the surrounding areas of the countryside. Now environmental protection is more pressing than ever before. As we know, massive destruction of environment has brought about negative effects and even poses a great threat to mans existence. Indifference to these problems will mean committing suicide. Therefore, effective measures should be taken and laws passed to conserve environment. Many animals are in danger of dying out. As is clearly shown in the bar chart, the kinds of wild animals have decreased sharply in the past decades. With 30,000 wild animals reduced on average each year, there were only 1.5 million left till 2010.

There are several reasons accounting for this problem. Apart from the polluted environment and natural disasters, illegal killing is an important reason. 然而，我们的身边环境变得越来越糟糕了，有一次，我走在路上，一阵清风吹过，忽然一大片垃圾在地上打起转来，非常难看，还有一些很小的纸片在空中飞舞起来，看着四周的舞蹈者，我的心里很难过，还有一次，我因为踩到了地上香蕉皮摔倒了，腿上还出了很多的血，当时我非常生气，是谁把这些扔到了道上，这些人的素质也太差了。

爱护环境是我们共同的责任，是一种美德，是一种要求，如果我们连自己的家园都保护不好，那么我们人类生存的意义又在哪里呢，面对我们失去的美好环境我们是多么痛心啊，痛心之后呢 ？我们不能视而不见听而不闻，麻木不仁，我们是城市的主人，我们是家园的主人，所有的环境都与我们息息相关，我们必须瞪大眼睛，保护我们的环境， 树立环保意识，把环境看做我们的生命，看做我们生存的希望，如果我们环境都没有了 ，生存的空间都没有了，那么我们只 能灭亡，未来的环境问题，应该是最大的问题。 我希望在不久的生活中，人人都能树立环境意识，让我们从现在开始，一个小小的弯腰，捡起的不仅仅是纸片，更是一种品德，一种温暖暖，让我们一起和环境手拉手，一起迎接美好的太阳，人人需要文明，城市需要文明， 我们需要文明，那么就从我们身边开始。
