但是，抽调来的工匠谁也没做过陶人陶马，只会烧砖瓦。他们试烧多次都烧坏了，有一百多名工匠被砍了头。就在这批被杀的工匠中，有个老工匠想出个法儿，他在临死前告诉他的儿子，要他单窑分段烧制。儿子含泪埋了父亲，按照父亲生前嘱咐，单窑单俑分段烧，烧成后再组合。经过几次试烧，终于烧成了。
