Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study in Britain for two years.

I enclose a detailed curriculum vitae and an offprint of my article, together with two letters of recommendation from Dr. Li Ming and Dr. Ma Li.

上了初中之后，我也尝试着去举手发言，但只是在数学课上有，其他一些科目就害怕自己说错，所以就不举手。上了初二之后，又多了一门物理，物理课上我们会进行小组合作的方式来进行学习。因为我在理科上的成绩还不错，就当选了一个小组的学习组长，也是因为条件需要，所以经常会发言，也就慢慢地开始锻炼着自己的勇气。过了一段时间，数学课也开始了以小组合作的方式来学习。不用说，我又成为一个数学小组的学习组长。在这两门科目身为学习组长的带动下，我慢慢地放开了胆，努力地将自己内心的思维表达出来，而每当我的回答得到同学们的掌声，得到老师大家的肯定时，你会觉得那时是多么的自豪与骄傲啊!

勇气很重要，社会各方面的东西都需要有勇气去面对。有勇气去克服困难，有勇气去承担自己应有的责任，勇气让我们在成功之后得到了喜欢与成功感。

人们需要勇气，没有了勇气，你将一事无成。只有有勇气去面对，才有勇气去克服，才会有勇气去实现自己的梦想。

我找回了勇气，更找回了一份成功，也为自己的未来打下了坚定地基础。拥有了勇气，我会积极参加各种活动，为自己增添更多的知识与学问。但这些事情的前提是——勇气。

在人生的道路上，有许多“第一次”，如第一次走夜路，第一次写字，第一次自己坐车等等。但最让我难忘的还是第一次游泳。

记得那是去年暑假的一个下午，哥哥带着我和妹妹兴高采烈地去游泳，可我是个“旱鸭子”，只会戏水，套着游泳圈胡乱蹬一气，不一会儿就漂到一米六的深水区。我脚站不到池底，呼吸逐渐困难，我大惊失色，大喊道：“哥哥，救命——”哥哥看我那傻样，哭笑不得，决心教我游泳。

一开始初中，哥哥拉着我的两只胳膊，让我双脚左起右落，拍击水面。说的容易做起来难，要就是脚抬的高度不够，要就是摆动幅度过大，经过一次次修正，基本学会做动作了。哥哥慢慢后天，渐渐地，我有些熟练了。哥哥让我把游泳圈垫在肚子底下，练习手的动作，再练习手脚的配合。我认为手的动作过于麻烦，就用“狗刨”。练了一会儿，哥哥潜下水，抽掉游泳圈，我的身体不由自主地往下沉，水往嘴里猛灌，我手忙脚乱，不断挣扎，可最终无济于事，还是沉下去了。这时，我心里忽然想到：不行，我要镇定，快游！我奋力“狗刨”。手脚配合协调。不一会儿就浮上来换气。可我不会转弯，与对岸的瓷砖来了个“亲吻”，头上起了个大包，我沉下去，没力气再游上来了。这时，我抓住一根铝合金，象抓住一根救命稻草，死活不肯放手。我奋力爬上岸，边喘着粗气，边琢磨怎么转弯。这时，一个中年男子游过来，又摆了个“尾”，用脚一蹬池壁，便游走了。我灵光一闪，照葫芦画瓢，果然成功了。

从这件事中，我明白了：要想学好一种本领，要多动脑，遇到挫折不可灰心丧气，因坚持不懈，永不放弃。

Lantern Festival The 15th day of the 1st lunar month is the Chinese Lantern

Festival because the first lunar month is called yuan-month and in the ancient

times people called night Xiao. The 15th day is the first night to see a full

moon. So the day is also called Yuan Xiao Festival in China. According to the

Chinese tradition, at the very beginning of a new year, when there is a bright

snacks. When we finish the dinner, all the members will come to the balcony and

sit down, appreciating the full moon. We talk and enjoy the chatting hour. I

have a good time with my families.

在放假的时候感觉真好。早上睡到十点多才睁开惺忪的睡眼。不紧不慢地穿着衣服，不用在担心爸妈的催促。细细地品味那武汉的风味小吃。空调吹来的凉风令我不由得想到同学。他们一定和我一样此时都在家享受着空调所带来的清凉。

放假的感觉真好。抱上一本闲书故意地从爸妈面前走过。他们的脸上挂着笑，似乎原来所反对的闲书，此时再看起来已经不闲了。

放假了，我也要先把作业写完，然后就能快快乐乐的玩了，我的暑假计划很充实，在暑假里，我要认认真真的学习，也要快快乐乐的玩，然后就去旅游，去黄山，去日照，去青岛，去郑州等等!

我们除了学习，最重要的就是身体，要是免疫力低，刚放假四五天就感冒了，岂不是白白浪费了一个假期?所以我要多多锻炼身体，多打乒乓球，俗话说得好：“每天锻炼一小时，健康生活五十年，幸福生活一辈子。”还有我们要吃晚饭要去外面走走，还有一句古话说的也很好“饭后百步走，活到九十九”。最后，我还要说，暑假，暑假，毕竟还是假日，我们也要玩一玩，放松一下。

啊!暑假真快乐呀!

在我家，战争是随时会爆发的，特别是每个星期六的晚上，那是看电视的黄金时间，也就是这个时候，我们家都会展开一场激烈的战争——“电视争夺战”。

吃完晚饭，我跑到客厅里，打开电视，拿起遥控器，调到了少儿乐园。这时，妈妈也吃完了饭，跑到客厅，飞快拿起遥控器，调到CCTV8。我生气地说：“我也要看！我也要看！”“不行！去！去！你去开电脑看吧。”妈妈无奈地说。我只好使用我的绝招：我拿出手机，叫公公叫妈妈出去买点东西，好让我看一会儿电视。

妈妈走了，我正美着，爸爸却盯上了电视，趁我不注意，悄悄地把遥控器从我身边拿过去了，还调换成了体育频道。真是气死人了，我的眼睛瞪大了，握紧了拳头，大汗都冒了出来，心想：刚到手的遥控器，就被臭老爸偷走了，我一定要拿回来。于是，我和爸爸抢起了遥控器，我说：“大人要让小孩的！”“小孩要关心长辈！”爸爸严肃地说。我们抢呀争呀！30分钟后，老妈回来了，又趁我们抢遥控器的时候，站在我们中间，大声喊道：“停下！”我俩突然猛坐到沙发上，遥控器被老妈接住了。后来，老妈就坐在沙发上看电视呢！我俩起来后，扑向老妈，又抢起了遥控器。

要是我们每天都展开类似这样的“大战”，那我们的生活一定会添加不少的乐趣！有趣吗？你们家有没有类似的故事呢？

六年级妈妈会尊重你，确保有任何问题不在外人面前批评你，有问题，会和你在私人的场合解决。当然也会努力克制自己的唠叨，做个不那么背的妈妈。

I am pleased to invite you to a luncheon, to be held by the Monterey Institute of International Studies on October 12, 2006 at noon, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the death of General Stilwell and in honor of his daughter, Mrs. Nancy Stilwell Easterbrook. Mrs. Easterbrook was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Monterey Institute and founder of the Stilwell Scholarship, which is dedicated to supporting students from China.

For many years until she passed away, Nancy had served as a goodwill ambassador of the American people who made unremitting efforts to promote exchanges between the United States and China. The Stilwell Scholarship she founded helps support deserving students from China who have come to the Monterey Institute to pursue professional degrees in translation and interpretation, international policy studies, language teaching and business management.

邻居家里有一只聪明的小狗——跳跳。跳跳是一条哈士奇，长得漂亮极了。

它的背上长着乌黑光亮的毛，四肢全是洁白的毛，一双深蓝色的眼睛上面长着两组淡黄色的“眉毛”。而且还穿了一件漂亮的“狗狗装”头上带了一顶“贝雷帽”帅呆了。

跳跳特别的聪明。那一次，邻居去旅游，让我们养几天跳跳，我兴高采烈。刚刚吃完饭，我就带它去散步。一来到小公园，跳跳就“兴奋”了起来，左跳跳，右蹦蹦。突然，他跑了过来朝我跳了几下，我立刻了解了它的意思，拿起它的“贝雷帽”往前猛的一扔，它飞奔而去，然后一跳。我心想：肯定能咬住。结果，它正好跳在了帽子下，“贝雷帽”就顺其自然的“戴”在了跳跳的头上。“嘿！跳跳真聪明，我再来考考它。”我把一根木头插在帽子下，再将另一端搭在石头上。结果让我目瞪口呆，跳跳在另一端上一跳，帽子在空中飘来飘去，跳跳一纵身一跃，帽子就又被跳跳“戴”在了头上。

跳跳可真聪明，同时我也领会了“跳跳”这个名字。拜拜！

我有一个幸福的家，在这个家里，父母之爱，一草一木之爱，使我的生活时时充满着欢快与温馨，我整天就生活在这爱的气氛里。

在这个家里我很喜欢吃肉，青菜就不怎么爱吃。就因为这个爸爸妈妈不知说过我多少次，可是我就是觉得肉好吃，有一次爸爸为了让我吃菜故意和我抢菜吃，那天妈妈炒了一个我最爱吃的芹菜炒肉，妈妈把菜放在我面前，我不停地挑着肉片吃，真香啊!爸爸来到桌子旁，将菜放在桌子中间，我急忙把菜碗拉过来，爸爸把菜碗又拉了过去，我们俩就这样拉来拉去，我生气了，放下筷子走了，眼看爸爸快要把菜全都吃完了，我就顾不上赌气了，拿起筷子快抢，不管是肉还是菜都进了我的嘴了，不知为什么芹菜也蛮好吃的，从那以后我就开始吃青菜了，我知道爸爸用抢的方法治掉了我不吃青菜的坏毛病，爸爸做的一切都是为我好。

家庭就像我们的大树，我生活在幸福的家里，爸爸妈妈就像树枝让我快乐地生活着，我就像一片叶子。我要好好学习，要把这个家庭建设的更好，也就是我要做一片美的叶子，要把大树装扮得漂漂亮亮。

你瞧，我羽毛球打得多好——爸爸都打不过我了，其实我才学会了三个月。

起初，我不会打羽毛球，但每次看到爸爸妈妈在打羽毛球，我总想试一试。于是，我便对爸爸说：“让我和妈妈打一场，好吗？”爸爸不以为然的说：“如果你能打赢妈妈就好啦。”说着把羽毛球拍给了我。

我听了心中很不服气，拿起羽毛球往头顶一扔，想用球拍打过去，谁知扑了个空，羽毛球落在了地上，妈妈笑着说：“来啊，把羽毛球打过来啊！”我捡起羽毛球想用刚才的一招打过去，这次倒是打了出去，可打到了身后，而不是前面。我只好跑到远处捡起羽毛球，心想：既然这种方法不行，那就换一种吧！我左手两个手指捏住羽毛球，右手拿着球拍，摆到羽毛球的下面，两指轻轻松开，球拍快速往上方打去，心中暗喜：这次总可以成功了吧。刚想欢呼，谁知球不争气地飞到了屋顶上，幸好家里还有一个，这次我一定会好好打。

“耶！我终于成功了！”我高兴地叫了起来，功夫不负有心人，羽毛球终于飞到了妈妈身边。

我得意地对爸爸妈妈说：“这下你们不会小看我了吧，我们接着来！”妈妈笑着说：“我们可不敢小看你哦！”我和爸妈之间的较量才刚刚开始，我乘胜追击，连赢妈妈三球，最终以三比零的成绩赢得了比赛。我高兴地一蹦一跳地回家了。

看吧，现在爸爸妈妈都已经不是我的对手了！
