次日，天未明，丐即打呼：“吾欲食肉，腹中甚饥。”陈氏闻声，持灯而至，寻之为何。丐曰：“饥甚欲食。”陈即命人备酒食。如此三四日，管家烦恨之，于一风号之夜，以柴草围丐之屋，风助火势，灼浪翻滚，顷而火光冲天。邻人相呼救火，陈氏见火光，慌忙出门相救。一晚人闹犬吠至清晨，火方停，而屋早已化为灰烬。陈氏惶然寻丐之骨首，未果。忽闻呼呼声，见丐躺于地面，酣然睡之，陈氏方知丐为神人。丐醒，惊呼：“吾屋何在?”
