The Christmas story also draws attention to all those people who are on the edge of society - people who feel cut off and disadvantaged; people who, for one reason or another, are not able to enjoy the full benefits of living in a civilised and law-abiding community. We have all been conscious of those who have given their lives, or who have been severely wounded, while serving with the Armed Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. The original Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, was born in the ancient southeastern Turkish town of Lycia early in the fourth century. His generosity was legend, and he was particularly fond of children. We know this primarily through Roman accounts of his patronage of youth, which eventually led to his becoming the patron saint of children. Throughout the Middle Ages, and well beyond, he was referred to by many names none of them Santa Claus.

Children today would not at all recognize the St. Nick who brought gifts to European children hundreds of years ago except perhaps for his cascading white beard. During the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century, St. Nicholas was banished from most European countries. As the "protector of sailors," St. Nicholas graced the prow of the first Dutch ship that arrived in America. And the first church built in New York City was named after him. The Dutch brought with them to the New World two Christmas items that were quickly Americanized.

In sixteenth century Holland, children placed wooden shoes by the hearth the night of St. Nicholass arrival. The shoes were filled with straw, a meal for the saints gift laden donkey. In return, Nicholas would insert a small treat into each clog. In America, the shoe was replaced with the stocking, hung by the chimney.

The Dutch spelled St. Nicholas "Saint Nikolass," which in the New World became "Sinterklass". later changed to "Santa Claus".

Much of modern day Santa Claus lore, including the reindeer drawn sleigh, originated in America. Dr. Clement Clarke Moore composed "The Night Before Christmas" in 1822, to read to his children on Christmas Eve. The poem might have remained privately in the Moore family if a friend had not mailed a copy of it (without authorial attribution) to a newspaper and became part of the Santa legend.

It was in America that Santa put on weight. The rosy-cheeked, roly-poly Santa is credited to the influential nineteenth-century cartoonist Thomas Nast. From 1863 until 1886, Nast created a series of Christmas drawings for Harpers Weekly. These drawings, executed over twenty years, exhibit a gradual evolution in Santa from the pudgy, diminutive, elf-like creature of Dr. Moores immortal poem to the bearded, potbellied, life-size bell ringer familiar on street corners across America today. Nasts cartoons also showed the world how Santa spent his entire year constructing toys, checking on childrens behavior, reading their requests for special gifts. His images were incorporated into the Santa lore.

不知怎么回事儿，赵轩突然喊了一声：“萨拉咪好吃听得见”，被余老师听见了，他立刻对赵轩说：“去外面说十遍‘萨拉咪好吃听得见’”，有几个人不禁捂着嘴偷笑。“给萨拉咪做广告去”，余老师又说。这次我们忍不住了，一起开怀大笑，赵轩也认识到了错误，以后犯这种错误的时候也少了。

下课了，余老师莫名其妙地最后来了一句：“我觉得自己画的画比以前好了耶”，我们先是丈二和尚摸不着头脑，然后就争先恐后地开起了玩笑：“什么呀，还不是一样难看”，“比以前还难看呢！”。。。。。。

我们班上可能有人不喜欢英语，但肯定没有人不喜欢英语课，或许有些不喜欢英语的同学被余老师也弄得喜欢英语了呢！

圣诞节作为西方的一个隆重庆祝节日，除了圣诞树，也不能少了好吃美味食品。圣诞节火鸡大餐就是例牌主菜了，以前的人们或许会用微波炉自己做，现在的人们过节好多就是在外面餐馆里用餐了，商家们也会利用机会赚顾客们的钱，当然还有许多圣诞节食品，姜饼、糖果等等了。

除此之外，人们还互相赠送礼物，这是孩子们最喜欢的了，常常能收到许许多多的礼物。

每年我们都会过各种各样的节日，在这些节日里，我最喜欢圣诞节，因为圣诞老人会给我们送礼物。

12月24日的晚上，我正在写作业，突然传来了妈妈的叫声：“邓卓彧，外面有个人说你写的春联的字好漂亮，你去看看是谁哦?”我慢慢地走到门口，轻轻地打开门，一看，惊讶的叫起来：“哇!圣诞老人!”原来一位穿着一身大红衣服，戴着一副眼镜的圣诞老人从天而降。圣诞老人来送礼物啦!我欣喜而又激动的看着他。只见他从一个大袋子里拿出了好多礼物，我紧张得手都有点发抖。圣诞老人温和的对我说了好多的话，要我好好学习，做一个优秀的孩子!妈妈还给我和圣诞老人照了好多相呢!圣诞老人要走了，他说还要给好多孩子送礼物。我这才知道圣诞老人是多么的辛苦啊!这么冷的冬天，下着雨，出来给那么多的孩子带去了温暖和快乐。

我希望每天都是圣诞节。

今天上午的最后一节课，是我们班级的英语课，英语老师让全班同学都背诵一篇英语课文。

我急忙翻开书，有一些单词不会读，赶紧向我的同桌请教，可他也不会读。这时，老师向我这边走来，快了！快了！老师马上就过来了，我的呼吸也变得有点急了，这可咋办呀？

我赶快低下了头，不敢去看老师，只觉得心跳得可厉害了，手心里不停地向外冒汗，两腿不由自主晃来晃去。心里默默的祈祷：老师呀！千万别叫我啊！

可是，老师走到我的面前，停下了脚步，关切的问我：“你背过了吗？”

“还没有呢”我吞吞吐吐地回答说。

“什么原因啊？”老师又问。

我说：“有些单词我不知道怎样去读。”

老师生气了，板着脸说：“你连这些单词都不会读，简直太让我失望了！”

说完，就去检查其他同学了。

这时我的脸感觉就像一个茄子，红一块紫一块的，难看极了！仿佛同学们都用异样的眼光看着我，讥笑我，我不敢抬起头环顾四周，只想在地上找一个老鼠洞，赶紧钻进去才好。

晚上，我躺在床上，翻来覆去地睡不着，我一定要学好英语的。迷糊中我听到英语老师叫我的名字，说我得了九十多分。我高兴极了，一下子蹦了起来，拿起试卷就往家里跑。爸爸妈妈看了我的试卷和成绩，也非常高兴，直夸我是个好孩子，一家人都很开心。看到我这么有出息，你争我抢地要看卷子，不知道是谁不小心，一下把我的试卷撕成了两半，我的心一急，醒了。原来是一场梦啊！

打那以后，我的学习更加刻苦认真了，我要让我的梦变成现实！

暑假到了，妈妈给我报了一个英语补习班。我的老师叫“Mr Hu”，他五官端正，看上去很慈祥；他的个头不是很高，但是身体壮壮地；他不仅是我的英语老师，而且还是一个“健身达人”。我们班上一共有6名同学，其中一名是女孩，其他五名是男孩，我们都是小学生。

今天是星期五，也是老师给我们考核的日子。我们一个个都很高兴，因为老师要用一种特殊的考核方法，对我们进行考核，考核过关的都会得到老师的奖励。这种考核方法分为两轮，第一轮是团队考核，抽签分组，把同学们平均分成三组，每个组之间进行比拼，我和另外一个男孩组成一个团队，我们起名为“变形金刚队”，其他两个团队的名字叫“时间队”和“无名队”。第二轮是个人考核，每个团队的两个小伙伴互相抽题，我给他抽，他给我抽，以所得的分数来评判是否过关。第一轮考核开始了，同学们都非常的开心，在这种愉快的考核中，都发挥得很好。我和我的小伙伴齐心协力，最终得到了29分，与“无名队”并列第一。同学们个个摩拳擦掌，期待着第二轮个人比拼的开始。第二轮抽签开始了，其中一个男同学抽完题目后，尽然高兴的跳了起来，并且兴奋地说“太简单了，我都会啊”，又听到一个低沉的声音响起“不要高兴的太早了，你抽的题是队友的考题，你的考题在你的队友手里噢”老师摇了摇头，无奈地说：“第二轮的考核是团队成员互相考核，根据答题正确率来计算个人得分，每个人的最终考核结果以两轮的合计分数为准”。同学们是高兴过了头啊，这才开始认真的进行第二轮的考核。在第二轮考核中，我个人得了11分，其他同学也都不相上下。最终老师公布总分数，我们6个同学全部考核过关，既紧张又兴奋的考核结束了，老师给我们每人发一个冰淇淋，一边吃一边看英语动画片。同学们很喜欢这种学习方式，个个劲头十足。

我喜欢上英语补习班，因为上英语补习班很有趣，可以从游戏中学会英语。

圣诞节到了，妈妈决定让我快快乐乐地度过这一天。

早上一起床，我就收到了妈妈给我准备的圣诞节礼物：一包开心果和一袋巧克力。妈妈告诉我，送我开心果是希望我天天开心!

吃过中午饭，妈妈带我来到了万达广场。一到那里，我就被墙壁上的大屏幕给吸引住了，上面一次次地播放着12月24日，也就是平安夜，芬兰圣诞老人和大家见面会的场景。后来，我们进了万千百货。这时，我才发现这里充满了浓浓的圣诞节气氛：到处都摆放着形态各异的圣诞树，有绿色的、银色的、还有金色的••••••树上挂满了各种各样的圣诞节小饰品，广播里不断地传来圣诞节的歌声。我沉浸在这节日的气氛中，一边跟着广播哼唱着圣诞节歌曲，一边尽情地欣赏着各种各样的圣诞节装饰物。忽然，耳边响起妈妈的声音："哇!时间过得真快!已经快到六点了!"我一下子回过神来，感觉肚子好饿呀!赶紧拉着妈妈向餐厅走去••••••

今天我过得很快乐，真是一个快乐的圣诞节啊!
