《子衿》是诗经里的名篇，从其内容上来讲，用来表达思念的千古名句“一日不见，如隔三秋”就出自此诗;从其写作手法来讲，短短数字，却运用了大量的心理描写，从而把女主人公对恋人的思念之情表达的淋漓尽致，此后心理描写手法在文学作品中占了很大一部分的比重。

子衿一词，最早追溯于此诗，意思是“你的衣领”，指女子对心上人的爱称。后来成为了对知识分子、文人贤士的雅称，这只要源于曹操的《短歌行》“青青子衿，悠悠我心。但为君故，沉吟至今。”曹操雄才大略，“新瓶盛陈酒”用子衿来形容自己渴求贤才的心情。而子衿最初表达的是热恋中的姑娘对恋人的思念之情。

“青青子衿，悠悠我心。”青青的是你的衣领，悠悠的是我的心境。难以忘记你的青色的衣领，那样的整洁干净，它时时牵动着我悠悠的心，自从上次别离已经有一段时间了，可你的样子和衣着我还依稀的记得。“纵我不往，子宁不嗣音?”纵然我不曾主动去找你，难道你就此隔断音信?从这里我们可以看到，不知出于什么缘由让两人失去了联系，女子对男子未来看她而又些许的埋怨。而女子出于矜持和羞怯没有去找他，在她自己看来似乎是情有可原的。

“青青子佩，悠悠我思。”青青的是你的佩带，悠悠的是我的情怀。难忘你青色的佩带，上次相见时，它是那么的干净整洁，现在不知它还是否紧贴在你的身旁。“纵我不往，子宁不来?”纵然我不曾主动去会你，难道你就不能主动来?看到这句，不由的笑了，女孩儿的心思你千万别去猜，猜来猜去也猜不明白。女人都是口是心非，明明心里想念人家，就是嘴上不说，潜台词就是都和你在一起了，我心里怎么想你都不知道吗?哈，有时候女孩就是太矜持了，爱就要大声说出来嘛，你不说他怎么知道啊，你不知道男孩都是直线逻辑吗?你那曲曲折折的小想法他可猜不透呢。

全诗共分为三节，每节短短四句，每句四言，用区区四十九个字便把女子的思念之心刻画的淋漓尽致，这全靠作者对心理活动描写的挖掘。如果说前两段重点是描写女子的心理活动的话，那么最后一段则是情感的升华，寥寥几笔就把女子焦急难耐等待恋人的心情刻画的如印眼帘。“一日不见，如三月兮”虽是运用了夸张的修辞手法，造成主观时间与客观时间的反差，从而将其强烈的情绪心理形象地表现了出来，突出了女子对恋人的思念，也成为男女之间用来表达相思之情的千古唯美诗句。

《诗经》读书笔记马克思指出：“在不同的所有制形式上，在生存的社会条件下，耸立着由不同的情感、幻想、思想方式和世界观构成的上层建筑。”在《诗经》产生的年代，我们的先人在自然条件相当艰苦的黄河流域以宗法制度为核心建立起一个农业社会。这个社会为了生存发展，需要强大的集体力量，需要内部秩序的稳定与和谐，而相应地需要抑制其社会成员的个性自由和与之相联系的浪漫幻想。正是在这种“生存的社会条件下”，形成了《诗经》的思想和艺术特色。并且，由于中国——尤其中原社会的基本特点维持甚久，作为中国文学重要起点、又被奉为儒家经典的《诗经》，其特色对于后代文学的影响，也就非常之深远。 《诗经》是以抒情诗为主流的。除了《大雅》中的史诗和《小雅》、《国风》中的个别篇章外，《诗经》中几乎完全是抒情诗。而且，从诗歌艺术的成熟程度来看，抒情诗所达到的水准，也明显高于叙事诗。而与《诗经》大体属于同时代的古希腊的荷马史诗，却完全是叙事诗。正如荷马史诗奠定了西方文学以叙事传统为主的发展方向，《诗经》也奠定了中国文学以抒情传统为主的发展方向。以后的中国诗歌，大都是抒情诗；而且，以抒情诗为主的诗歌，又成为中国文学的主要样式。

《诗经》里大量运用了赋、比、兴的表现手法，加强了作品的形象性，获得了良好的艺术效果。所谓“赋”，用朱熹《诗集传》的解释，是“敷陈其事而直言之”。这包括一般陈述和铺排陈述两种情况。大体在《国风》中，除《七月》等个别例子，用铺排陈述的较少；大、小《雅》中，尤其是史诗，铺陈的场面较多。汉代辞赋的基本特征就是大量铺陈。虽然从《诗经》到汉赋还间隔许多环节，但说其原始的因素源于《诗经》，也未尝不可。“比”，用朱熹的解释，是“以彼物比此物”，也就是比喻之意。《诗经》中用比喻的地方很多，手法也富于变化。如《氓》用桑树从繁茂到凋落的变化来比喻爱情的盛衰；《鹤鸣》用“他山之石，可以攻玉”来比喻治国要用贤人；《硕人》连续用“葇荑”喻美人之手，“凝脂”喻美人之肤，“瓠犀”喻美人之齿，等等，都是《诗经》中用“比”的佳例。“赋”和“比”都是一切诗歌中最基本的表现手法，而“兴”则是《诗经》乃至中国诗歌中比较独特的手法。“兴”字的本义是“起”。《诗经》中的“兴”，用朱熹的解释，是“先言他物以引起所咏之辞”，也就是借助其他事物为所咏之内容作铺垫。 《诗经》表现出的关注现实的热情、强烈的政治和道德意识、真诚积极的人生态度，被后人概括为“风雅”精神，直接影响了后世诗人的创作。
