这个暑假，我读了一本著名的小说《老人与海》，这本书给了我极大的启示。

书的作者是欧内斯特。海明威，书中的主人公是一个叫亚地圣哥的老渔民，作者采用故事叙述的方式描写了亚地圣哥出海捕鱼的一段经历。

通过本书的阅读，我觉得不仅要学习作者的写作技巧，更要学习主人公的精神。

轻舟一片，在一望无际的大海边缘，一位白发苍苍的老人孤独的身影置身于小轻舟中。这个平凡的老人，就是世界名著《老人与海》的主角。圣地亚哥老人给我的第一眼印象就是“他消瘦憔悴，在勃颈上有很深的皱纹。在腮帮上还有许多的黑斑。”但是，在我读完《老人与海》之后，我不觉得他在是一个平凡的老人了。

圣地亚哥老人，以捕鱼为生，却有一次84天没有捕到任何一条鱼，但是，饥肠辘辘的老人并没有放弃。他凭着自己坚定的信念与高超的技术，在一无所获的84天后，终于钓到了一只巨大无比的马林鱼。老人的船拖着马林鱼，走了很远很远，漂泊了两天两夜，经历了前所未有的奇妙经历。他奋力一搏，刺死了马林鱼，拴在船上，却不料遇到了一头饥饿的鲨鱼，鲨鱼把马林鱼给吃了，留给老人的只有鱼骨……

作者为什么要让老人失败，按书中老人曾经说过的一句话“一个人并不是生来就被打败的，人尽可以被毁灭，却不能被打败。”我想这就是作者想要告诉我们的吧。其实在读书的同时，我更是感受到了什么叫做幸福。一个人在做什么事情的时候，并非到了最后成功的时刻才是幸福。其实有些幸福就藏于追求之中。在老人身上我们发现了一种敢于追求梦想，敢于面对挫折的勇气。这是我们值得学习的。

---Book Review: “Camille”

I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately, it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that life and dies painfully and alone, but with the knowledge that she was a noble woman at heart. When I first began to read the book, I did not care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I got further into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She felt used, abused and unloved, until the gentle Armand Duval came into her life and showed her that he loved her as a person and not for what she could do for him. It must have taken great courage for Marguerite to leave the life she had lived for so long, knowing all along that it was probably too good to be true and would not last indefinitely. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.

However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumass last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in life when they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimes past situations prevent them from changing their lives, even though they desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and women in many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime; drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems; poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists in the whole society.

As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, the Comte de G. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke needed to “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could never replace his dead daughter. If he truly cared, he could have helped her leave her lifestyle without “keeping” her himself. And lastly, Prudence was a blood-sucking leech who used Marguerite almost worse than the men. I also think she was jealous of the fact that Marguerite had so much more courage than herself and someone truly loved her.

《老人与海》写的是老渔夫圣地亚哥在海上的捕鱼经历，描写老人制服大鱼后，在返航途中又同鲨鱼进行惊险的搏斗。

他的小船在海上拖了三天才筋疲力尽，他杀死了绑在小船的一边，可想而知，这需要多大勇气和多强的意志啊!但在归程中一再碰到鲨鱼的袭击，于是老人与鲨鱼进行了殊死搏斗，但最后回港时只剩下鱼头鱼尾和一条脊骨。

作品中的形象却具有很强的象征意蕴。他用马林鱼象征人生的理想，用鲨鱼象征无法摆脱的悲剧命运，用大海象征变化无常的人类社会，而狮子则为勇武健壮，仇视邪恶，能创造奇迹的象征，圣地亚哥则是人类中的勇于与强大势力搏斗的“硬汉子”代表，他那捕鱼的不幸遭遇象征人类总是与厄运不断抗争。

海明威看似没有让老人圣地亚哥成功，却以光秃秃的骨骼写出了老人生命的硬度。

《老人与海》是一本能让人了解，什么才是真正的人生，什么才是坚强的书，一本实实在在的好书。在现实生活中，我们会不断地受到挫折、失败，许多人因此而消极、失去对生活的热爱。而《老人与海》却刻画出一个与大海搏斗，在艰难的环境下，奋力生活的老渔夫。老人的渔船上那破旧的帆布，就像是一面失败的旗帜，仿佛在宣告着老人永远都捕不到鱼的倒霉运气。但是，他没有放弃，仍然出海捕鱼。而在现实中，某些人却不能坚持，面对挫折就选择了放弃，选择了逃避。和那已经生活窘迫的老渔夫相比，那些逃避的人真的是不知道什么才是挫折。

人类很伟大，很坚强，很有潜力，很有毅力；但是人类又好渺小，好脆弱，好容易言败，好容易妥协。当我们遇到困难时，身处困境时，觉得害怕并不丢人，感觉恐惧也并不失常，但是我们一旦有了放弃的念头，有了逃避的想法，有了妥协的行为，那就是胆小鬼的表现了，那样只会让人寒心，让人小看，让人唾弃，让人远离。

人生在世，还是需要一点傲气，需要一些傲骨的，无论何时何地都能做到自强自信，无惧无畏，那才是真英雄，真本色！但要是自暴自弃，贪生怕死，畏手畏脚，胆小怕事，那就只会招致失败，只会深陷深渊，得不到尊敬，得不到尊重，得不到成功，得不到救赎。

Then he started fighting against with the wicked prison life. Though he suffered many unfair treatments and ordeals, he never gives up himself. Due to his intelligence and perseverance, he spend 20 years successfully escape from the prison as a redemption. He teaches me that never lose hope.

The story took place in 1940. A man who is a banker called Andy Dufresne, was sent into the Shawshank prison, for he murderer his wife and her lover in bed. However, he was innocent as he said. The new days in the prison were hard to live. It’s violent, heartless and cruel. Nevertheless, A month later, Andy began to make friends with other prisoners. And one of them called Red, who could get anything what he wanted. Andy bought a mallet from him and started his plan to escape. During this time, he did many things: expanding the library, caving stones, helping the corrupt warden to get money or bribe, etc. Then a young prisoner’s coming break his quiet life in jail. But the warden killed the young prisoner the only man that knew Andy was innocent. Then he knew the prison he could not stay any more. It took him 20 years to tunnel secretly and he successfully escaped from the prison. When he got free, Andy sent the evident which could prove the warden corruption, briber and murdering to the policy agency. Before that, Andy had told his best friend Red that his dream---Zihuatanejo, a warm place without memory. After escaping, Andy lived a free life in another identity and made the prison governor arrested. Several years later, Red was approved to leave. for the promise to Andy. Finally, in Zihuyatanejo, they met.

The cruel prison life terrified me and the friendship moved me. The story goes to a happy ending---redemption. This film impressed me a lot. A sentence was said in the film: ’Some birds arent meant to be caged, but most birds will choose to stand it.’

In this film, as we can see, the Shawshank Prison, which enjails lots of people. They have been in the prison form many years ,so they won’t go abroad. Because they won’t and also they can’t. They lived here for years without hope, and they lived just in the small prison, where nobody knows what is their dream and what’s their hope. As I remember, a old man Brooks was released after he had been in the jail for 50 years. But he found that the world became completely different from the world he imagined. For example, he seldom see cars before. He felt very strange and helpless to the outside world He can hardly adapt to the new developed world. He would rather stay in the prison. So unfortunately he chose to commit suicide.

However, on the contrary, Andy said a converse sentence:’ Some birds arent meant to be caged, thats all. Their feathers are just too bright…’ He long for the freedom and strive for it! What I remember very clearly is someone said that “These walls are kind of funny things like that. First, you hate them, then you get used to them. Enough time passed, get so you depend on them. That is institutionalizing.” But Andy hadn’t been affected. He insisted on his faith of freedom. He dared to pursue his deserved freedom! That’s the first point I appreciate.

What’s more, another thing I think is friendship. Of course, Andy’s perseverance and endeavor is the main reason that he succeed in escaping. But it can’t be denying that friendship is also a important reason. Without the friends’ help in the prison, especially red’s, He can’t break the prison, too. Even in the jail which is the most evil place that Andy could make it a significance place. He had transformed a storage room smelling of turpentine into the best prison library in New England. Then the prisoners read the books and got knowledge from it. Andy also helped them to pass the high school equivalency. The glitters of him lighted others’ life. That helps him built many sincere friendships in the prison. He just too bright that didn’t belong to the prison .Then he escape and gained the freedom.

Furthermore, the patience, courage and strong willpower are the keys to escape. 20 years, not a short ordeal time, but he endured. He made his plan day by day, week by week and year by year. He never gives up. he took nearly twenty years to dip a tunnel with a little rock hammer which Red said it would take a man 600 years to tunnel under the wall with one of these to fight for his free .And he did it finally. Please imagine, crossing the tunnel he dup, he still should crawled through five hundred yards of shit-smelling foulness. That is the length of five football fields.

Then is the last but not least, I think. He has the bright brain ,the never fading persistent, and the most important thing----hope. Just as Andy said to Red: Hope is a good thing, may be the best of things. In this film, Andy show us that how good thing the hope is. Yes , hope is a good thing. Whatever it is, it can’t lock the hope. We all have dream. We all have hope. We all have it and please never give up, like Andy.

This film, Shawshank Redemption, teaches me a lot. It deserves to be one of the most overwhelming films in the Hollywood.

Jane Eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. After we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think:

We remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past.

We remember her pursuit of justice. It’s like a companion with the goodness. But still, a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side.

We remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality. In her opinion, everyone is the same at the God’s feet. Though there are differences in status、in property and also in appearance, but all the human being are equal in personality.

We also remember her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence…

When we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality.

The author showed these ugly things to us, he described an ugly world. But there are more kind people in the novel.

Mr. Brownlow, an old friend of Oliver’s father, took good care of Oliver.

Mrs. Maylie, Harry Maylie’s mother, saved Oliver of his life.

Miss Rose is the aunt of Oliver, in fact.

They all protect Oliver from hurt.

Oliver was unlucky to meet so many evil people, but he was luckier to get help from so many kind people.

In the end of the novel, all the evil people were punished. Oliver got what he should get. Rose married Harry Maylie and they lived happily. All the kind people have a happy ending.

Righteousness can always beat evil. I think this is what the author wants to tell. Although there are many ugly things in the world, we must believe that righteousness can always beat evil.

We must store kindness even though we are in ugly situation. One is poor if he doesn’t have kindness. One is rich if he has kindness. So please store your kindness in your mind.

What’s more, the novel also tells us to be brave. Oliver was brave enough to overcome all the problems he had met. No matter how difficult the problem is, we can’t give up, we must try our best to solve it.

刚开始我不明白为什么如此坚强的人却会面临失败的结局，当我再阅读时，我恍然大悟，用小说中的话来说：一个人并不是生来就要被打败的，人可以被毁灭，但绝不能被打败，这表明了海明威的人生观和价值观。人生在世，每个人都会有缺点，每个人都可能面临失败，让一个认真尝试着去做好一件事情去战胜对手，重要的并不在于结果，也不在于成功和失败。只要他曾经奋斗过，努力过，那么它就是一个强者，就是一个胜利者 。

从表面看，老渔夫他是可悲的，并且不是最后的胜利者，因为尽管他捕获了大马林鱼，但是最终大马林鱼还是让鲨鱼吃了，只是带着大马林鱼的白骨架子回到了岸上，也就是说鲨鱼才是胜利者，可是老渔夫并不可怜，并不可悲。在海明威的世界里，只有这拥有真正向艰难困境挑战的人，才配拥有胜利的荣誉称号，而老渔夫正拥有了这些。

同时我也很喜欢那里面的那个孩子，在老人困难时给予帮助，在受伤时给予医药，在伤心时给予安慰……他是一个真正善良的人。

Set in Afghanistan and the United States between the 1970s to the present day, it is a heartbreaking tale of a young boy, Amir, and his best friend who are torn apart. This is a classic word-of-mouth novel and is sure to become as universally loved as The God of Small Things and The Glass Palace.

Twelve year old Amir is desperate to win the approval of his father Baba, one of the richest and most respected merchants in Kabul. He has failed to do so through academia or brawn, but the one area where they connect is the annual kite fighting tournament. Amir is determined not just to win the competition but to run the last kite and bring it home triumphantly, to prove to his father that he has the makings of a man. His loyal friend Hassan is the best kite runner that Amir has ever seen, and he promises to help him - for Hassan always helps Amir out of trouble. The Kite Runner of Khaled Hosseinis deeply moving fiction debut is an illiterate Afghan boy with an uncanny instinct for predicting exactly where a downed kite will land. Growing up in the city of Kabul in the early 1970s, Hassan was narrator Amirs closest friend even though the loyal 11-year-old with "a face like a Chinese doll" was the son of Amirs fathers servant and a member of Afghanistans despised Hazara minority. The son of an Afghan diplomat whose family received political asylum in the United States in 1980, Hosseini combines the unflinching realism of a war correspondent with the satisfying emotional pull of master storytellers such as Rohinton Mistry. Like the kite that is its central image, the story line of this mesmerizing first novel occasionally dips and seems almost to dive to the ground. But Hosseini ultimately keeps everything airborne until his heartrending conclusion in an American picnic park.

These days Ive just finished the novel Uncle Toms Cabin that left a really deep impression on me and we can see.

It is a book written in 1852 in response to the passage of the Fugitive Slave Law， Uncle Toms Cabin has been considered as the most influential anti-slavery novel in that period and described by Stowe herself as a “series of sketches” describing the human cruelty of slavery， opens with a description of Arthur Shelbys Kentucky plantation during the antebellum period.

There are several impressive characters in this novel， George who is clever and brave;Harry， a beautiful and talented child who sings dances and mimes;Mrs. Shelby， a very religious woman;Sambo and Qimbo and so on. The major character Uncle Tom who was the most impressive in this novel was a devout Christian. He endured the miserable fate bravely and aroused the whites sympathy for slaves with his Christs sacrifice and the tolerance of returning good for evil. This novel focuses on the distinctive personalities of Uncle Tom deeply influenced by Christianity and the important role Uncle Toms Cabin playing on abolition; and the Significance of “Uncle Tom” to the harmonious worlds development， and the effect on modern people.

In the book， at the beginning， the author presents us a very beautiful image of a rather harmonious family who live a happy life. However， that beautiful image couldnt last long， the darkness came soon. The master of this happy family， Uncle Tom was arranged into a difficult situation. As Shelby， the not cruel master， he has incurred serious debts- prompting him sell some slaves to avoid financial ruin， so Uncle Tom， Shelbys loyal servant since childhood was sold to Mr. Haley， the slave trader. Uncle Tom remained loyal to his master， despite his betrayal and the risk of death at the cruel hands of a new master. The slaves at the plantation were very mournful， but Tom remained placid and tried to read his Bible for fort. On the steamboat to New Orleans， where Tom was to be sold， Tom befriended an angelic little girl， “Little Eva” St. Clare. Uncle Tom saved the five-year-old beauty from drowning， and she convinced her father to buy Tom for her own family. In her family， Tom enjoye.

d his life because of the girls love; Toms contentment does not last， however， because Eva soon falls ill. Dying， Eva asked Mr. St. Clare to free Tom after her death. But Mr. St. Clare is so sad by her death that he never legally freed Tom before he himself was killed trying to mediate a barroom scuffle. Mrs. St. Clare sold the slaves to settle her husbands debts and Tom was sold to Simon Legree who was so violent that beat his slaves brutally. At last， when Mr. Shelby， finally found Uncle Tom， he was almost died. After Tom was dead and buried， Shelby went back and freed his slaves.

As we all can see that Uncle Toms Cabin was an anti-slavery novel and it was even considered as one factor that caused the Civil War. In the novel， the slaves were sold from one place to another frequently， and their fate was tragic， with no exception- just like Uncle Tom， no matter he was under the control of kind masters or evil masters， he cant escape the misfortune of being sold from one master to another. We cant see any human right of them， so terrible.

As someone said， with more people realizing the inhumanity of slavery in the 19th century， slavery became one of the most important issues and it became more violent year by year in American society. However， slavery was not abolished irrevocably until ratification of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in 1865， following the Civil War. After the passage of Fugitive Slave Act of 1850， Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote this novel Uncle Toms Cabin which publicized the evil of slavery to a wide audience.

Now we are in the 21st century， we may never e across such kind of thing. However， this book can always remind of us that there ever has existed this evil and we cant let it happen again. And “equality” 、“human right ” cant just be a slogan， we should make it e true really and always.

Learn to Live

——my thoughts after reading Joan of Arc

Sunshine shines over the statue in Orleans. The ordinary but famous girl named Joan is riding on her horse, smiling and looking down at the land that she has loved and fought on. She is the heroine of France, the saint from heaven. Her influences shine over every person’s heart, and I am deeply impressed by her story.

When Louis XIII was the king, the British and the Burundians invaded France and wanted to have the northern part of France. Joan helped French people coronate their new king, Louis XIV, getting almost all the invaded land back with the help of three saints. But after that, she was caught by the Burundians and was burnt on a cross by her enemy. This is the famous story about Joan, the saint. From a village girl to a national heroine, she only used a few years. How could Joan of Arc do that? I wonder.

Someone says the saints have chosen her and the God has given her power. But actually the real virgin doesn’t exist, From the birth of Jesus Christ in the first century, people have controlled the Christianity. I think the religion has become a tool between people. This kind of opinion about the success of Joan must be wrong.

Someone said, Joan had this wonderful success because of her confidence and will. I quite agree with this opinion. Because there aren’t any virgins in the world, so I think the appearance of the saints was only in Joan’s mind, actually nothing special happened to Joan. I think the things which really mattered were Joan’s thoughts. In my opinion, Joan must have some military ability to lead the whole army, because of her unusual image, Joan became more confident to the success. It let Joan had the will to be successful. So the success before did not happen by accident,. After some battles, Joan said that she had lost her support from the saints, but actually this didn’t mind. The more important thing was that she had lost her confidence and will, so she lost the battle at last.

So I think confidence and will are just like the foundation of success. All the success depends on them.

In the real world, confidence and will is always very important. During the XX Athens Olympic Games, Li Ting and Sun Tiantian have won the gold medal for the women’s double in the tennis game. It was the first time our anthem playing on the tennis court. Some medium says that they have won by chance. It was only a fairy tale. But I don’t think so. Actually they have won because of their believing in themselves, because they have confidence and will, so they have created a fairy tale in Greece. Their confidence and will have made the success, not by accident.

In our daily life, we must have confidence and will as well. Before the test we need to be confident to our actual strength or we’ll not give full play to our initiative. We need to be confident when we are speaking in public or others will not remember you among all the speakers. We need to have will in studying or we’ll not learn things solidly. We need to have will in our daily life or we’ll give up the things we are doing now. If we have confidence and will in our daily life, then I believe you’ll live brighter.

《老人与海》这本书的封面是深蓝色的，上面画着一片宽无边际的大海，海面上漂着一艘孤零零的小船，小船里坐着一个戴着帽子的老人，只有一轮皎洁的明月挂在深蓝的天空中，与老人作伴。那究竟会发生什么事呢，就让我们来看一看吧!

《老人与海》这本书讲的是，有一位老人驾驶者自己的小船，在出海打鱼的路上，他遇到了一条非常大的鱼。老人就跟着这条鱼，已经过了一天一夜了，大鱼还是没有停下来，但是老人已经下定了决心想：我一定要把这条鱼钓上来，让不服气的那些人看看，一定要让他们心服口服才行。就这样，最后大鱼终于被老人钓上来了。老人就开始返航，在回去的路上，他遇到了很多的的鲨鱼，把那条大鱼吃的只剩下一点了。还好，没等吃完，老人就从海上回来了，岸上的渔夫，看到老人打到了如此大的一条鱼，都为老人喝彩，老人心里高兴极了。

我读了这本书后，明白了一个道理：我们要学习老人身上坚持不懈的精神，有了这种精神，才能干好一切事情!

一个平凡的大海，一个平凡的老人，一个简单的故事，却给我们一个深刻印象，告诉我们一个深刻的道理。

老渔夫桑地亚年轻时是一位出色的渔夫，到了老年他的精力和反应都远不如以前。妻子死后，他一个人孤单的生活在海边，只有一个小孩亲近他，崇拜他。他已经一连八十四天没有打到鱼了，对于一个渔夫来说这是一个耻辱。但在第八十五天他依然顽强的出海打鱼。这一次，他碰上了一条足有十八英尺长的大鱼，这条鱼激起了老渔夫挑战它的决心。老人与大鱼奋战了两个昼夜，在这个过程中他不断和鱼，和鸟，和大海对话。凭借自己顽强的毅力和坚定的信念，他终于挺了过去，征服了庞大的鱼，但在回来的路上，一大批鲨鱼被吸引过来，老渔夫吃力的与鲨鱼搏斗，但干枯的精力无法阻挡鲨鱼猛烈的进攻。鲨鱼把大鱼吃了，那条大鱼变成了一副空空的骨架，最后，老渔夫把巨大的骨架拖回了岸上。

在老人无力的时候，小孩是老人唯一的亮点，因为这一亮点，老人找回了自我。老人失败了，但，也成功了。他战胜了自身、大鱼，但也输给了鲨鱼。晚上，老人睡着了，小孩在他身边守护着他。那一晚，老人梦见了雄狮，那是力量的象征。

看完这本书，我的心久久不能平静，这位平凡而又可敬的老人，使我深深懂得了：做人不应该被任何困难所吓倒，我们应该尽我们最大的努力与生活中的磨难，做不屈不挠的斗争。

以前的我一遇到困难，往往先畏缩，没有人鼓励，引导，就会失去自我。读完《老人与海》以后，他顽强的毅力，坚定的信念影响了我。今后的我不管遇到什么困难，总会迎难而上，坚持到底。

自信，顽强，坚定，永不言败，这就是老人教给我的.，人可以被打倒，但不能被打败。

在漫漫人生中，我们总会遇到许多的困难，有的人呢，会知难而退，而有的人则会不畏困难，奋勇直前。

谈迁就是一个典型的例子。他费尽了大半生才完成了《国榷》。这本书就是他生命中的一切。不料却被偷走了。这对谈迁来说是何等大的打击啊！可谈迁很快从绝望中脱离出来，重又摊开纸，继续奋笔疾书起来。而《老人与海》里的老人圣地哥亚也有着像谈迁一样不怕挫折的精神。

《老人与海》主要讲述了老人八十四天没有捕到鱼，从五岁就陪老人一起出海的小男孩也离开了他去了另外一条船，所以这次老人独自出海。老人捉到了一条大马林鱼。不过这条鱼很大，拖着小船在海上行驶了三天，顽强地做最后挣扎。老人坚持到底，直至大马林鱼精疲力尽，终于被老人杀掉。在返航途中，这条鱼不时遭到鲨鱼的攻击，最后老人深夜回港，拴好小船，摸黑回到窝棚里睡了。次日清晨，男孩看到那位老人正在量死鱼残骸，从头到尾足足有十八英尺长。

我十分敬佩这位老人，足足有八十四天没有捕到鱼，“八十四”多么惊人的数字啊！可他依旧没有放弃，如果是我的话早就放弃了，即使我半天没钓到鱼，也会对此失去信心。而这位老人却做到了，可见这位老人的精神是多么强大，是多么乐观，是多么不怕挫折，我是发自内心的敬佩他。

我们也要像老人一样，遇到任何事情都要坚持，你总有一天会成功的，我们还要勇于面对挫折，不要害怕挫折。

The Gift of the Magi is a short story wrote by O.Henry.This story tells that in the day before Christmas,a poor young couple exchanged gifts by sold the most precious thing of each,but resulted ordetracted, the two precious gifts all became useless things.While they got the most precious thing than any material objects——love.

After read this story,I learned how to respect others love and how to love others.In this story,they all lost the most valuable things——Jims golden watch and Dellas beautiful hair. Behind this, I saw they loved each other infinitely.They loved their family, they let me feel that cold Christmas Eve has become the warm heaven just because of their gifts. If Della only took one dollar and eighty-seven cents to pick gift,this story will probably lacking of shocking, and also cannot cause readers thinking.

In this materialistic society, people often use money to measure gifts.When bags of gifts which are packaging delicately in front of us,what can we see except empty and blank? Parents feel happy because of our simple greeting cards in their birthday,because of a few words of blessing.These gifts,simple but true.It cant be compared with those which built with a lot of money, outlined by luxuriance. What clever gifts! In some sense, they are invaluable.

Yes,in this materialistic society,some people think money is everything,the one who owns money,who owns all.No wonder a great amount of girls became mammonists,and want to marry richers;no wonder more and more men think that there is no true love,what girls love is their money. But I always believe sincere love is existed and its priceless. Even if you have millions of money, you cant change it into true love. Maybe money can let you get some feelings from girls, but those are hypocritical. When you no longer possess vast wealth, the hypocritical feelings will ended and left you extremely painful finally.Jim and Della were a happy couple, although they were poor, living in short of money.In their hearts, money is not important, the important thing is the affection from each other.As long as they have it, they felt happier than any millionaire.

Maybe some people will pour scorn on it and cannot understand what their done. If there is a good fortune and a sincere feeling in front of you at the same time, which one will you choose? I wouldnt hesitate to choose the later, because sincere feeling is priceless! I believe that true pay will have sincere return finally, and the one who have true love can have his or her happiness.

Nowadays,more and more people have been pressed to lose their breath by the reality.They forgot the persons they love,and the persons who love them.We need to care about others,no matter how much money we have.What our loved one need is how our concern about him or her.
