This book is simply wonderful. The tales involved are tales of the Persian Gulf, of Bagdhad, Arabia, and tales that we as adults should revisit for some enjoyable light reading that will make us smile and wonder at the old folklore of the Arabian Peninsula.

Sinbad the Sailor is in there, as is Aladdin in its original form, and the story begins of a king who is so upset by his wifes unfaithfulness that he will now only accept virgins for one night and then have them killed. A smart virgin begins her night with the infamous king by telling him stories, and she so fascinates him and enthralls him with her tales that the tales turn into folklore for readers of the ages. I wont tell you what happens in the end to the virgin princess, but you will find humor, enchantment, wisdom and fantasy for those times when stress becomes a factor in your life.

I highly recommend the tale of "The Historic Fart" as a both funny and inspiring tale of human nature. Please buy this book and remember to become a nine -12 year old again as you read with curiosity and wonder at the fabulous enchanting, lively stories. I was beginning to wish my children were a bit younger so I could read these to them. Any child would enjoy these stories, and any adult will find them simply relaxing and a reflection of medieval Islam.

在五年级的时候，我读了一本书，名叫《老人与海》。对于这本书，我真的是爱不释手，百读不厌。

《老人与海》主要讲一个名为桑提亚哥的老渔夫，独自一个人出海打鱼，在一无所获的8天后钓到一条硕大无比的马林鱼。这是老人从没有见过也没有听过的大鱼，这条鱼长约8英尺，体重约一千五百磅。鱼大劲儿也大，拖着小船游荡了两天两夜，但最终还是被老人刺死了，大马林鱼的血腥味引来了四条大鲨鱼。老人与它们展开了搏斗，最终四条鲨鱼被杀死。谁知，老人还没喘回了气，一大群鲨鱼出现了。老渔夫与鲨鱼殊死拼搏，但最终大马林还是被鲨鱼吃掉了肉，带回家的只剩下一架光秃秃的鱼骨。

也许书中的老渔夫并不是最后的胜利者，因为虽然先前老人战胜了大马林鱼，但最后大马林鱼还是被鲨鱼吃掉了，他只带着鱼骨上岸，可是他并没有向大海，向大马林鱼，向鲨鱼妥协。他其实是一个敢于向自信和勇气挑战的胜利者。

读了《老人与海》我若有所思。主人公为自己的理想，拼搏过，奋斗过，努力过，难道他不算胜利者吗？老人那种坚持不懈、永不放弃的精神令我惭愧，因为我是一个知难而退、轻易放弃的人。只要遇到我不会做的题目我总是空在那儿，不去管了。当我读完这本书，我被震撼了，立志要改掉半途而废的缺点。

Abstract: This film Shawshank Redemption describes a man called Andy Dufresne was sent to the prison for he murdered his wife but in fact he was innocent. Then he started fighting against with the wicked prison life. Though he suffered many unfair treatments and ordeals, he never gives up himself. Due to his intelligence and perseverance, he spend 20 years successfully escape from the prison as a redemption. He teaches me that never lose hope.

The story took place in 1940. A man who is a banker called Andy Dufresne, was sent into the Shawshank prison, for he murderer his wife and her lover in bed. However, he was innocent as he said. The new days in the prison were hard to live. It’s violent, heartless and cruel. Nevertheless, A month later, Andy began to make friends with other prisoners. And one of them called Red, who could get anything what he wanted. Andy bought a mallet from him and started his plan to escape. During this time, he did many things: expanding the library, caving stones, helping the corrupt warden to get money or bribe, etc. Then a young prisoner’s coming break his quiet life in jail. But the warden killed the young prisoner the only man that knew Andy was innocent. Then he knew the prison he could not stay any more. It took him 20 years to tunnel secretly and he successfully escaped from the prison. When he got free, Andy sent the evident which could prove the warden corruption, briber and murdering to the policy agency. Before that, Andy had told his best friend Red that his dream---Zihuatanejo, a warm place without memory. After escaping, Andy lived a free life in another identity and made the prison governor arrested. Several years later, Red was approved to leave. for the promise to Andy. Finally, in Zihuyatanejo, they met.

The cruel prison life terrified me and the friendship moved me. The story goes to a happy ending---redemption. This film impressed me a lot. A sentence was said in the film: ’Some birds arent meant to be caged, but most birds will choose to stand it.’

In this film, as we can see, the Shawshank Prison, which enjails lots of people. They have been in the prison form many years ,so they won’t go abroad. Because they won’t and also they can’t. They lived here for years without hope, and they lived just in the small prison, where nobody knows what is their dream and what’s their hope. As I remember, a old man Brooks was released after he had been in the jail for 50 years. But he found that the world became completely different from the world he imagined. For example, he seldom see cars before. He felt very strange and helpless to the outside world He can hardly adapt to the new developed world. He would rather stay in the prison. So unfortunately he chose to commit suicide.

However, on the contrary, Andy said a converse sentence:’ Some birds arent meant to be caged, thats all. Their feathers are just too bright…’ He long for the freedom and strive for it! What I remember very clearly is someone said that “These walls are kind of funny things like that. First, you hate them, then you get used to them. Enough time passed, get so you depend on them. That is institutionalizing.” But Andy hadn’t been affected. He insisted on his faith of freedom. He dared to pursue his deserved freedom! That’s the first point I appreciate.

What’s more, another thing I think is friendship. Of course, Andy’s perseverance and endeavor is the main reason that he succeed in escaping. But it can’t be denying that friendship is also a important reason. Without the friends’ help in the prison, especially red’s, He can’t break the prison, too. Even in the jail which is the most evil place that Andy could make it a significance place. He had transformed a storage room smelling of turpentine into the best prison library in New England. Then the prisoners read the books and got knowledge from it. Andy also helped them to pass the high school equivalency. The glitters of him lighted others’ life. That helps him built many sincere friendships in the prison. He just too bright that didn’t belong to the prison .Then he escape and gained the freedom.

Furthermore, the patience, courage and strong willpower are the keys to escape. 20 years, not a short ordeal time, but he endured. He made his plan day by day, week by week and year by year. He never gives up. he took nearly twenty years to dip a tunnel with a little rock hammer which Red said it would take a man 600 years to tunnel under the wall with one of these to fight for his free .And he did it finally. Please imagine, crossing the tunnel he dup, he still should crawled through five hundred yards of shit-smelling foulness. That is the length of five football fields.

Then is the last but not least, I think. He has the bright brain ,the never fading persistent, and the most important thing----hope. Just as Andy said to Red: Hope is a good thing, may be the best of things. In this film, Andy show us that how good thing the hope is. Yes , hope is a good thing. Whatever it is, it can’t lock the hope. We all have dream. We all have hope. We all have it and please never give up, like Andy.

This film, Shawshank Redemption, teaches me a lot. It deserves to be one of the most overwhelming films in the Hollywood.

Based on Mark Twains novel, The Millionaire Pound Note takes an interesting satirical look at the hypocrisy stemming from class distinction in the 50s England. England is a country where class and wealth are given extreme significance, especially among the rich. The film shows the hypocrisy that existed among these people, how the rich are quick to change face when in an instant they find out that youre a man of wealth and how within the next moment they revert back to their condescending selves when all wealth is lost.

Interestingly, The Millionaire also briefly looks at how the English perceived Americans in that era. Rich Americans were welcomed as outsiders and the poor were quickly shunned away. The fact that hes an outsider either makes him more appealing or the complete opposite. The story sticks to the main theme by emphasizing on the hypocrisy of the upper class society but at the same time it also creates a balance that prevents the movie from being a mockery of the British society. The movie drags at some point but the love story appears at the right time and there is plenty of comedy to keep one entertained. A charming Gregory Peck totally nails the part and the luminous Jane Griffiths is a treat. Reginald Beckwith, as Pecks sidekick Rock is amusing. The ending is a little predictable but the director does an overall good job by rounding it up and presenting his points.

Kids can relate to the duckling‘s dilemma; part of the growing-up proceis pulling away from those around you and developing a strong sense of self. Children have also witnessed or experienced the teasing that is part and parcel of childhood.

The glowing watercolors, filled with intricate details, make each blade of gravisible, and the delicately drawn, nearly transparent mosquitoes are as ethereal as they are in life. The subtle details incorporated into the scenes--a frog catching a passing fly at the pond and a tiny mouse perched by a crate in the old woman‘s cottage--make children take another look.

One day he heard a sound of whirring wings, and up in the air he saw a flock of birds flying high. They were as bright as the snow that had fallen during the night, and their long necks were stretched southward. Oh, if only he could go with them! But what sort of companion could he be to those beautiful beings?

‘I am too ugly even for a dog to eat,‘ the duckling thought. Jerry Pinkney‘s poignant text and rich artwork convey the timeleappeal of this tale of hardship and redemption. Anyone who has suffered the sting of ostracism can sympathize with the ugly duckling‘s plight and will relish the uplifting conclusion.

书中主要继续了老人连续八十四天没有打到鱼，在第八十五至八十六天，终于捕到一条大马林鱼，但是马林鱼的血水使老人的小船变成了所有鲨鱼追踪的对象，老人为了保住大马林鱼，不断地用手中的渔、匕首、棍棒、船舵驱赶鲨鱼，可悲剧还是发生了，抵达岸边时，大马林鱼已被撕咬的只剩一根雪白的脊骨，任人丢弃到垃圾堆中。我明白，文中不断地描写老人出海捕鱼的过程，其实也是在侧面描写人生，大马林鱼象征着梦想得到的目标与追求，鲨鱼是追求梦想过程中的种种艰难险阻和邪恶势力，大海则是瞬息万变、千姿百态的人生。这本书让我认识到了老人勇于面对困难、挫折、逆境、死亡的这种英勇无畏的硬汉性格，使我明白了在面对邪恶时，要用自己手中所有，去尽可能地驱逐黑暗，换来光明。纵使一次又一次的受伤，但是，这使人变得无懈可击；纵使暴风雨后也许并不会出现彩虹，但这是我们所经受历练的见证！我们的精神不敏泯，意志不绝！

这本书教会了我许多许多，他将激励着我，阅读更多这样的好书，在人生的道路上砥砺奋进！

人不是为失败而生的，不甘沉沦是人的本性，一个人可以被打败，但不可被毁灭。慢慢合上《老人与海》，我思绪万千，我的心早已随着这本书飞到那波涛汹涌而又险象环生的大海，飞到那只有勇敢的弄潮儿才能自由驰骋的舞台。

书中讲的故事很简单，写了老渔夫圣地亚哥在连续84天没有鱼获的情况下，再一次单独的出海时捕到了一条大马林鱼。但是鱼实在太大了，它把老人的船在海上拖了三天三夜才精疲力竭。归途中老人一再碰到鲨鱼的袭击，于是老人与鲨鱼进行了一场拉锯式惊心动魄的殊死搏斗。最后到家时，只剩下鱼头鱼尾和一条脊骨。虽然老人没有把完整的大马林鱼带回家，在许多人眼里是失败的。但是实际上他也是成功者。俗话说：“不以成败论英雄。”老人那坚强的意志、勇敢的精神并不比任何英雄的经历逊色。他将成为经历磨难而战无不胜的巨人，值得每一个人尊敬。

在日常生活中，我们经常会因考试的名落孙山而失落，对自己失去信心；或者在比赛告负后而暗自垂泪，长吁短叹；也许会因朋友的背弃而伤心不已，因遭受责怪而心灰意冷。但是，自从我读了《老人与海》后，想想老人，再想想我们自己，就会觉得我们遇到的困难那都不叫事儿。是啊，生活从来就不缺少坎坷，总是充满坑坑洼洼。同学们，跌倒了就要努力爬起来。人生谁没有失败过？而最壮丽的人生就是在失败后重新站立，勇敢地面对困难并积极战胜它。

Recently,I read Helen Kellers autobiography "If I give a bright day," I am emotionally.

整个故事到这里就结束了，轻轻合扣上《老人与海》这本书，意犹未尽，掩卷沉思，老人瘦骨嶙峋、不肯屈服的身影浮现在我的脑海，他的颈背上刻着深深的皱纹，褐斑布满了他的双颊，除了一双眼睛，他浑身上下都很苍老。那双眼睛乐观而且永不言败，色彩跟大海一样。

《老人与海》是美国海明威的代表作，古巴老渔夫圣地亚哥在连续八十四天没捕到鱼的情况下，终于独自钓上了一条大马林鱼，将其拖了三天筋疲力尽，被他杀死了绑在小船的一边，在归程中一再遭到鲨鱼的袭击，最后回港时只剩下鱼头鱼尾和一条脊骨。

前八十四天，老人的鱼篓里空空如也，他站在海岸边等待第八十五天的来临——那个有好运的日子。他满载着希望而去，驶向海的远方，饥饿劳累过后，他始终不肯放弃那条大鱼，当他的大鱼被鲨鱼吃得仅剩下一副骨骼时，他自问：“可是，是什么把你打败的呢?”“什么也不是……是我走得太远啦。”老人承认了自己的失败，却又绝对相信自我的力量。相信他纵然失败依然勇敢无比，相信在精神上并没有败给鲨鱼，因为被消灭的是鲨鱼，而不是自己。

独自思索了很久，细细品味这本书的寓意所在，作品背景是在两次世界大战和西班牙战争之后，人们还未从世界大战的恶梦中醒来，幻灭、失落等种种迷惘困扰着人们。战后的社会是一片混乱、衰败的景象，战争和社会的种种荒诞现象给海明威的精神和身体上都带来了很深的创伤，可谓九死一生。我想了很久，觉悟到，马林鱼象征人生的理想，鲨鱼象征无法摆脱的悲剧命运，大海象征变化无常的人类社会，而梦见的狮子则为勇武健壮、仇视邪恶，能创造奇迹的象征，老人则是人类中的勇于与强大势力搏斗的“硬汉子”代表，他那捕鱼的不幸遭遇象征人类总是与厄运不断抗争。

“海洋是仁慈的，十分美丽的，”她给予了老人一条“比小船还长两英尺”的大马林鱼。可是海洋又是残忍的——那此成群结队而来鲨鱼夺走了他辛苦追捕到的大鱼，粉碎了他的“光荣”。老人与大海的关系是既依存于大海又要与大海斗争。大海是他的生活场所和战斗场所，也将成为他的最后归宿。

原来老人虽已年迈，却始终不肯屈服，正如他所说：“一个人并不是生来就要被打败的，人尽可以被毁灭，但却不能被打败。”

每一本书都有自己独特的灵魂！最近，我读了海明威的小说《老人与海》，读完这本书，我不禁思绪万千：胜利在这部小说里已经不显得那么得重要，重要的是一个人的生命价值，老人敢于挑战做不到的事，一次次地超越自我，不得不令我们感到敬佩，它所带给我们的是一种自信，一种强大的精神力量，一种不屈的意志。

初读，我的脑子顿时迷茫了：一个孤独的渔翁是如何与汹涌的大海进行搏击的呢？小说描写的是一位年迈六十的老渔夫，他凭着永不言败的精神在大海上生活着。他连续八十四天没捕到鱼，就在一次出海打鱼时，钓到了一条大鱼，但由于鱼实在太重了，拉不上来，之后他明白这是大马林鱼，老渔夫同鱼周旋了几天大鱼，鱼才终于筋疲力尽浮上水面，被他杀死，在途中一再遭到鲨鱼的袭击，但都被他化险为夷，让其他渔夫敬佩不已。

要有着坚持不懈的精神，才能胜利，可书中的老人经常都是坚持着，屡屡失败。读完后，我不断思考着，之后我又明白：他象征着坚不可摧的精神，生活上，他失败了，但在精神上他始终是胜利者。他那顽强抗击的精神，展现了人的高贵和尊严。而我却恰恰相反。

每当我遇到难题是就头疼了，都没思考就请教别人。但如今读了这本书，我不禁感到惭愧，一个老人都有着执着的精神，何况我们这些青年呢？从今天起，我们要学会坚持！因为有了坚持，我们才会朝着目标坚定地前行；因为有了坚持，我们才会努力寻求解决困难的办法；因为有了坚持，我们才有可能把梦想变为现实。只有这样，我们才会看到人生的辉煌！

“宝剑锋从磨砺出，梅花香自苦寒来。”人生路上，条条路坎坷，充满不公平。生命总是向前的，你唯一能做的只有坚持！我们虽不能决定生命的长度，但一定可以拓宽生命的宽度！不管遇到什么挫折什么荆棘，都要坚持到底，站在人生顶峰，大喊：“我是生命的强者！”

书如其名，傲慢与偏见，在书中是男女主角爱情上的障碍，但在现实社会中也是人们相互之间交流的障碍，更是在正确对待自己，对待事物上的绊脚石。在现实生活中，我们也会经常因为自己单方面的想法而是自己与他人隔开，所以我们要克服“傲慢与偏见”，主动了解他人。每一个人其实都很容易被自己的主观印象所驱使，因而容易对别的人下不正确的注解，进而造成了彼此之间的误会。一个人所给予的第一印象固然可以影响到很多事，但并非一定不会改变，要有更加深入的了解，才能有更客观一点的论点，就好像故事中女主角对达西的看法，就是因为了解才有所改变。此书反应的社会现实确是如此一针见血，她讲的是婚姻，与爱情无关。

我十分爱读《老人与海》，因为在这本书中有许多令我思绪万千的好句子。

最使我印象深刻的就是作者在描写老人屏住呼吸，等待大鱼上钩时的心理：人们常说好的愿望不能挂在嘴边，老念叨着就不应验了。的确，美好的愿望不可常说，因为那样，你的精力就会花费在口头上而不是行动中。这会使你在朝着愿望奔跑的路上出现数不清的坎坷、障碍，阻挡你前进的脚步。更何况，取得成功本来就不是什么容易的事。

事实上也是这样，你想取得优异的成绩，就不该整天夸夸其谈，而应该沉下心去努力奋斗，脚踏实地地一步步朝自己愿望迈进。前者与后者相比，后者必定是最有方法而且最有可能成功的。再者说，你万万不可总是生活在美好而又虚幻的愿望中，不管怎样，它还都只是个不存在的东西，就像一颗奢求成功的种子，没有这些其他的辅助工作，如：温暖的阳光、滋润的甘露、肥沃的泥土……是永远不可能实现的，即使它拥有大树的命，也终将是一颗一事无成的种子。

小说描写了一位老渔夫在海上捕鱼，经过了8天，他还没有捕到一条鱼，大家都说他运气不好，不吉利，等到第8天，他决定去渔夫们从未去过的深海去打鱼，以证明自己的能力和勇气。在海上，老人发现了一条很大的马林鱼，它克服了重重困难，经过艰难的搏斗，终于在第三天早晨，把鱼叉刺进了马林鱼的心脏。在返回的途中，老人与到了鲨鱼的五次袭击，他用鱼叉、船桨和刀子勇敢反击。当他驾驶小船回到港口时，马林鱼只剩下一幅巨大的白骨架。也就是说，鲨鱼才是胜利者。可是，在理想主义者眼里，老渔夫就是胜利者，因为他始终没有向大海没有向大马林鱼更没有向鲨鱼妥协和投降。就如音乐大师贝多芬所说“我可以被摧毁，但我不能被征服”。

海明威为什么没有让老人最终胜利呢？用小说中老人的话来说：“一个人并不是生来就要被打败的”，“人尽可以被毁灭，但却不能被打败。”这就是《老人与海》想揭示的道理。

书中的老人曾说：“人不是为失败而生的，一个人可以被毁灭，但不能给打败。人性是强悍的，人类本身有自己的限度，但正是因为有了老渔夫这样的人一次又一次地向限度挑战，超越它们，这个限度才一次次扩大，一次次把更大的挑战摆在了人类面前。在这个意义上，老渔夫桑地亚哥这样的英雄，不管他们挑战限度是成功还是失败，都是值得我们永远敬重的。因为，他带给我们的是人类最为高贵的自信！

人生本来就是一种无止境的追求。它的道路漫长、艰难，而且充满坎坷，但只要自己勇敢顽强地以一颗自信的心去迎接挑战，他将永远是一个真正的胜利者。
