Sunshine shines over the statue in Orleans. The ordinary but famous girl named Joan is riding on her horse, smiling and looking down at the land that she has loved and fought on. She is the heroine of France, the saint from heaven. Her influences shine over every person’s heart, and I am deeply impressed by her story.

When Louis XIII was the king, the British and the Burundians invaded France and wanted to have the northern part of France. Joan helped French people coronate their new king, Louis XIV, getting almost all the invaded land back with the help of three saints. But after that, she was caught by the Burundians and was burnt on a cross by her enemy. This is the famous story about Joan, the saint. I think the things which really mattered were Joan’s thoughts. In my opinion, Joan must have some military ability to lead the whole army, because of her unusual image, Joan became more confident to the success. It let Joan had the will to be successful. So the success before did not happen by accident,. After some battles, Joan said that she had lost her support from the saints, but actually this didn’t mind. The more important thing was that she had lost her confidence and will, so she lost the battle at last.

So I think confidence and will are just like the foundation of success. All the success depends on them.

In the real world, confidence and will is always very important. During the XX Athens Olympic Games, Li Ting and Sun Tiantian have won the gold medal for the women’s double in the tennis game. Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.

The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.

The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.

How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens—he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I dont think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.

For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.

To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on peoples honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing theirkindness, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.

Francis Bacon said in his essay, Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.

The story is set in London and Paris at the time of the great French Revolution. It shows the causes of revolution and its effects on peoples day-to-day lives. Before the revolution, the King and the aristocracy treated their people cruelly in France. The common people were extremely poor and miserable. The crops in the fields were poor as if even the land shared the misery of the people. And there were so heavy taxes that all the villagers had nothing to hand over at last. On the other hand, the aristocracy made their will as the law by using money and gold. There were no justice, no equality and no fairness. Just as what happened to Dr Manette,he wrote to the Minister to show the crime what Marquis Evremonde had done, resulting in himself being arrested and sent to the prison Bastille without any reason.

Then this situation of darkness was needed to be changed. As people such as the Defarges prepared and arranged, at length the Revolution came to break out. When the Bastille was captured and the King was tried and put to death as well as many other aristocrats, things didnt go on as what they had been expected. The situation stayed the same, or even worse. The prisoners from the Bastille were set free while more prisons were filled with people who had done no wrong again. People who once lived on the bottom of class took the charge now and their heart had been full of evil. The only thing they wanted to do was to revenge. And these so-called "patriots" would like to see more and more innocent prisoners going to the guillotine and thats their joy. As the novel wrote,” In everything they did were merciless, for they had been hardened in the fires of suffering and the touch of pity could make no mark on them".

Equality and fairness is what people seek,which led to the French Revolution.As a consequence,neither equality nor fairness was got after the revolution.And thats the tragedy of the history.I was heavyhearted when reading what Sydney Carton said before death and I burst into tears finally.

"The gift of the magi" tells a story like this: in order to buy a platinum fob chain for her husband as a Christmas gift, his wife, sold a head of show hair. And her husband for the same purpose, sold the ancestral gold watch for his wife bought a set of combs. The tale of two cities is a historical story， one of Dickens’ long fictions.The background to the novel is the revolution of France .It portrayed a brutal and bloody story ， but it also contained love and friendship.

In the novel， Dickens sarcastically described a typical cruel nobleman—marquis of Evermonde . When he was young he and his brother stole a countrywoman by force and killed her family .What’s worse ， he used his power to imprison Dr Manette ， a kind and honest man who knew all the things they had done and wanted to disclose their crimes . In order to hide their crimes. Marquis of Evermonde and his brother threw Doctor Manette into prison for 18 years . During these 18 years，Doctor Manette lost his freedom and suffer a great in spirit .

I felt unthinkable that Marquis of Evermonde and his brother killed people just as easily as they killed chickens. They deprived other people’s freedom as they liked and they thought it was normal and unremarkable. They had never realized that they had done something wrong or something improper. Because their nature was cruel and evil， like demons. There is an old saying which means： People who commit too many crimes will kill themselves. After all， there is justice in the world. The demons can’t be rampant forever. Because the world will not forgive them. They will pay their lives for their crimes. Let’s see the consequence of the Marquis，’’He lay there like a stone with a knife pushed into his heart.” I think it was just what he ought to gain and it is a real exciting scene.

The Marquis’ death was just the beginning of people’s resistance to the nobleman. Gradually more and more people joined in the revolution. One after another nobleman were sentenced to death and their heads were cut down . However， some innocent people were implicated in the revolution. Charles Darney was one of them He was the nephew of Marquis of Evermonde. To the opposite of his uncle， Darney was a kind and independent young man.

Dickens spoke highly of kindness mercy and love in the novel too. This is the other thone of the novel when Doctor Manette was released from prison. It was his daughter Lucie who took care of him and helped him return to normal. During this time， Dr manette and Lucie knew Charles Darney and Sydeny Carton， the two young man fell in love with Lucie at the same time . At last， Lucie married Chares Darney .Dr Manette accepted Darney as his son-in-law although he knew that Darney was the nephew of the man who threw him into prison for18 years. This is the love between father and daughter. And Sydeny Carton ， the very great man ，loved Lucie deeply. He promised Lucie that he would do everything for her happiness. The tale of two cities is different from other historical fictions. Its characters and main plots are fictional under the real background of the revolution of France. Dickens had dear love and hate. He praised those who ought to be praised and attacked those who ought to be attacked. The motivation of the novel maybe just warn the English dominators. But I think we can learn something meaningful from the tale of two cities.

每到星期日，读书是我最喜爱的事。今天，我向大家推荐一本书，书的主人公有着钢铁般的意志，这本世界名著叫《老人与海》，我对这本书百读不厌，爱不释手。

有一次，妈妈带我去新华书店买书，我一直想买一本《老人与海》，这次终于可以实现我的愿望了。买了书，我很兴奋，一回到家，就赶紧拿起这本书，准备大饱眼福了。

这是一本冒险小说。翻开书，才读了几行，就对文中的老人产生了敬意。

小说的主人公桑提阿果，是一位普普通通但具有不屈不挠、永不言败的硬骨头精神的老人。他常年独自在海上打鱼，有一次他钓到了一条大鱼，但是在返回的路上遇到了成群的鲨鱼，老人使出浑身的力气和鲨鱼搏斗，最终打败了鲨鱼，安全地回到了岸上。

我很喜欢《老人与海》的作者海明威说的一句话：“一个人并不是生来就要给打败的……”是的，事实的确如此，一个人如果具有不屈不挠、不怕困难的钢铁精神，他会在生活中的磨难里做出不屈不挠的斗争，尽自己最大的努力，战胜挫折，成为一个英雄。

我想象中的桑提阿果爷爷是这样子的：身穿着补丁的衣服和裤子，背上挂着一个渔网，手上拿着一把渔叉，可有趣呢！他不仅有着大无畏冒险精神，而且是一位非常勤劳的劳动者，我真的很欣赏他。

经过这段时间的坚持，我终于读完了《老人与海》这本书，这本书给我留下了很深刻的印象，使我无法忘记他。我读过一些书，他们让我学到了很多很多知识。也让我懂得了许多做人的道理其中这本《老人与海》让我体会很深这本书讲了这样一个故事。古巴老渔夫圣地亚歌连续八十四天没捕到鱼被别的渔夫看作失败者。可是他还是坚持不懈，终于这天钓到了一条大马林鱼，这一条大马林鱼将他的人和船在海上拖了三天才筋疲力尽。被他杀死了绑在小船的一边。在归程中遇到一条鲨鱼的袭击。他用尽一切的手段来反击。尽管鱼肉都被鲨鱼咬去了，但什么也无法摧残他的英勇意志。这本书向我们揭示了一个真理：人不是为失败而生的。一个人可以被毁灭，但不能被打败。

主要写了:一位老人独自在打海上打鱼，他钓到了一条大鱼，把鱼头和鱼的下半身绑在 小船边上，但后来遇上了鲨鱼。老人用上了浑身力气和鲨鱼搏斗，鲨鱼把能吃到鱼肉都吃了却还有8磅左右。

看了这本书后，我的内心久久不能平静。这位普通而又可敬的老人使我深深地懂得了：“做人不应该被任何困难所压服，应该尽自己最大的努力与生活中的磨难做不屈不挠的斗争。”

这位普通而又可敬的老人的被骨头精神实在令我佩服。每当我读到这位老人与鲨鱼进行激烈的搏斗时，我的心情不知是紧张还是为老人担心，可是这位勇敢的老人总是保持的乐观的精神去面对一些极大的困难，看到这里，我总是不由得想起了自己。每当我遇到一些困难时，总是觉得很不顺心，觉得很烦很烦，很想逃避现实，再看看人家这位这位普通而又可敬的老人，不管不遇到什么样的困难也绝不退缩。

做人就应该这样，不要一副贪生怕死的面孔，要对自己有信心，即使我们遇到重重困难。也不因该让他打到应该勇敢去面对。

我相信在我的努力下。我一定会变得像这位可敬的老人那样勇于拼搏。

以前，我做什么事只要有一点不顺心就会退缩，有时还会说上几句垂头丧气的话。《老人与海》中的主人公在大海上独自一人与鲨鱼搏斗。鱼叉都被鲨鱼带走了，他把小刀绑在船桨上乱刮，刀子折断了他用短棍，短棍也丢掉了。这本书揭示出真理不就说明了人无论怎样最怕的就是没有信心，心心就好比是汽车的吗大诗人前进的动力。如果你做一件事有了信心就等于成功了一半。这本书中的主人公充满信心，锲而不舍的精神不正是我们所缺少的吗?

自从读了这本书之后，我明白了自己的不足和缺点。工作上生活中不再因为一两次不顺心而失去勇气和信心，而是坚持不懈，越做越好，不服输。

说到底人的真正胜乐人，人在物质上无论取得多么大的成就都不能赢过我们崇高的敬意。我们更能变的坚强和自信。

鸭妈妈孵出了一只十分奇怪的蛋，这只“小鸭子”不仅大得吓人，而且长相丑陋。因此，大家都嘲笑它，歧视它。周围的动物们都不喜欢它，于是鸭妈妈便也开始讨厌它。无奈的丑小鸭便独自跑了出去，经历了重重困难、重重磨难之后，丑小鸭最终变成了最美的白天鹅!

当丑小鸭变成白天鹅，受到了大家的赞美时，它说：“当我还是一只丑小鸭的时候，我做梦也没有想到会有这么多的幸福!” 当人们看到美丽的白天鹅时，都会赞叹它的美丽。可当它还是丑小鸭的时候，谁又把它放在了眼里?

丑小鸭的经历告诉我们一个道理：要实现自己的目标，就必须努力。有的人小时候是“白天鹅”，但是没有努力，最终还是一个平庸的人。很多名人小时候就是“丑小鸭”，他们也和我们一样，拥有自己的理想，虽然总是碰壁，但他们锲而不舍，屡败屡战，终于也成为一只只“白天鹅”，在蓝天上空翱翔!!

今年寒假，我读了美国著名作家海明威的小说《老人与海》。我十分佩服小说中老渔夫的意志，他让我懂得了一个人定要有坚持不懈的精神才有可能成功。

“一艘船越过世界的尽头，驶向未知的大海，船头上悬挂着一面虽然饱经风雨侵蚀却依旧艳丽无比的旗帜，旗帜上舞动的云龙一般的四个字闪闪发光——超越极限。”作者海明威是这样评价他的作品《老人与海》的。

小说塑造了一个经典硬汉形象，古巴的一个名叫桑地亚哥的年近六旬的老渔夫，这是一次单身出海打鱼时，在一无所获的84天之后，钓到了第一条大鱼，老渔夫同鱼周旋了两天后才发现这是一条超过自己渔船数倍的大马林鱼，虽然明知很难取胜，但绝不放弃，与拖着小船游了整整两天两夜，老人经历了前所未有的艰难考验，终于把大马林鱼刺死在船头，而大马林鱼伤口上的鱼腥味却引来了好多群鲨鱼抢食，老人又与鲨鱼进行了殊死搏斗，在遇到鲨鱼的第五次袭击后，大马林鱼还是被鲨鱼吃光了，让他驾驶小船回到港口时，只剩下了一副大白骨架。

刚开始我不明白为什么如此坚强的人却会面临失败的结局，当我再阅读时，我恍然大悟，用小说中的话来说：一个人并不是生来就要被打败的，人可以被毁灭，但绝不能被打败，这表明了海明威的人生观和价值观。人生在世，每个人都会有缺点，每个人都可能面临失败，让一个认真尝试着去做好一件事情去战胜对手，重要的并不在于结果，也不在于成功和失败。只要他曾经奋斗过，努力过，那么它就是一个强者，就是一个胜利者 。

从表面看，老渔夫他是可悲的，并且不是最后的胜利者，因为尽管他捕获了大马林鱼，但是最终大马林鱼还是让鲨鱼吃了，只是带着大马林鱼的白骨架子回到了岸上，也就是说鲨鱼才是胜利者，可是老渔夫并不可怜，并不可悲。在海明威的世界里，只有这拥有真正向艰难困境挑战的人，才配拥有胜利的荣誉称号，而老渔夫正拥有了这些。

同时我也很喜欢那里面的那个孩子，在老人困难时给予帮助，在受伤时给予医药，在伤心时给予安慰……他是一个真正善良的人。

掩卷沉思，《老人与海》给的启示真的太多了!

本书讲述了老人圣地亚哥经过数次与鲨鱼搏斗及他捕鱼的经验，让他捕获了一条鲨鱼，在老人回来的时候，鲨鱼肉被其它凶猛的鱼夺去，老人空手而归了。

一条鲨鱼，一位老人，一只小船，一片大海，不禁令人无限感慨、无限遐想。一位老人，永不言败的精神！一片大海，充满挑战；一只小船，寂寞与苦难；这些看似平凡的事物却演绎了一个不平凡的经历。

老人圣地亚哥是个捕鱼高手，但，这并不意味着他永远能捕到鱼，可他没有放弃，坚持自己的信仰和永不言败的精神，即使最后他空手而归。

圣地亚哥在出海捕鱼时，承受着孤独、失败、风暴的侵袭，无数的困难困扰着他。一位老人在逆境中能够如此自如、不退缩，我们为什么不能呢？

常言道：“书是人类进步的阶梯。书带我们徜徉在知识的海洋，书带我们领略多彩的世界。”多读书，读好书将给我们不一样的人生。最近，我正在读美国作家海明威编写的《老人与海》，这个故事特别精彩，也给了我很多感悟。

这个故事主要讲述的是老渔夫桑提亚哥在海上与大马林鱼及鲨鱼搏斗的故事。在捕杀大马林鱼时，他多次受到大马林鱼的袭击且全身伤痕累累，桑提亚哥原本可以放弃捕杀，回到安全的捕鱼区域捕捉其他海鱼，但他偏不，他克服重重困难，经过三天三夜的顽强拼搏，最终捕到了大马林鱼。回程途中，又五次遭遇鲨鱼的侵袭，他用鱼叉，船桨和刀子勇敢反击。即使最终桑提亚哥只拿回了一条大马林鱼的白骨，但他不屈不挠勇敢的精神却值得我们学习。

在我们生活中，做任何事情都不会一直顺风顺水，但有些同学遇到阻碍总是知难而退，中途放弃，还有一些同学本打算做某些事，但道听途说一些困难，连尝试都不进行，直接放弃。我们应该向桑提亚哥学习，勇敢面对困难，砥砺前行。

之前，我每次碰到题干很长且又难的数学题时，想都懒得想，题甚至都没读完，就放弃并告诉妈妈自己不会做。妈妈给我讲题时，十分生气。生气不是因为我水平不够，而是因为我没动筋，连思考都没进行。其实题干掌握清楚后，难题也就没有那么难了。从那以后，我每一次碰到不会题都会静下心来想一想，把我能想到的都写下来，从这些条件中找到关联及线索，答案自然就迎刃而解了。

《老人与海》这个故事教会了我一种精神，一种永不言弃，不屈不挠的精神。
