It is believed that the Palace Museum, or Zi Jin Cheng (Purple Forbidden City), got its name from astronomy folklore, The ancient astronomers divided the constellations into groups and centered them around the Ziwei Yuan (North Star) . Timber was cut, processed and hauled from the northwestern and southern regions.

The Palace Museum is also called the Forbidden City, whichstarted to be built in 1407. It took 200,000 people fourteenyears to build it.

It was finished in 1420. There are 9,999 rooms in all the palaces. In China, nine is regarded as a lucky number traditionally. At present, it is free for Chinesestudents to visit every Tuesday.
