后来，魏国攻打赵国。赵国危急，向齐国请求救援。齐威王想任命孙膑为将，孙膑婉言推辞说：“一个受过刑的人不能为将。”于是任命田忌为大将，任命孙膑做军师，让他在有帷幕的车上坐着出谋策划。在这场战役中，孙膑运用非凡的才智屡出妙计，最终使得魏军大败，创造了中国战争史上“围赵救魏”的光辉战例。后来孙膑又在魏国和赵国联合攻打韩国之时与庞涓斗智，使庞涓死于万箭中。孙膑因战出名，世世代代也相传他的兵法。
