the holiday called christmas is an amalgam of many winter holidays from around the world. the name is designated as a celebration of the birth of jesus, although the date is not recorded in the bible, and people at that time did not place particular important on birth dates. scientists say the actual date was june 17th, 2bc because of the appearance of the star that beckoned the magi. december 25th was set as the date for christmas in the 4th century by pope julius i as an attempt to christianize midwinter pagan holidays such as solstice and saturnalia. customs such as bringing evergreens inside, eating fat-laden foods, and hanging lights are universal responses to the cold, dark winter season. some of the stranger christmas traditions are remnants of those older pagan holidays, and some have been changed over the centuries until their origins are hard to discern. others were just made up to boost business!

krampus st. nicholas, father christmas, or santa claus is the weirdest christmas tradition ever, but he is so well known and so well documented that his origins are beyond the scope of this particular post. as a tool to encourage good behavior in children, santa serves as the carrot, and krampus is the stick. krampus is the evil demon anti-santa, or maybe his evil twin. krampus night is celebrated on december 5th, the eve of st. nicholas day in austria and other parts of europe. people dress as krampus and roam the streets looking for someone to beat with a stick. since it is also a night for drinking, the beatings probably don’t hurt much. Happy Christmas Eve is coming, my heart is very excited, because Santa Claus comes

Its Christmas day on December 25th, and we still go to school as usual. No way, can only go to school, ah foreign friends must have a holiday, because this is their festival, why, why, China does not have a holiday!

In the evening I see Santa Claus, he and I said with a smile, Ill give you gift, I accept gifts, open on see, is a piece of paper, top write: I wish you good good study, day day up! Dont dwell on vacations!

早上起来看的日历今天是12月25日圣诞节，我们还是像往常一样上学，我想，圣诞节还要上学，累死人啊!没办法，只能上学了，哎外国的朋友一定放假，因为这是他们的节日，为什么，为什么，中国不放假!

我在这天晚上看到了圣诞老人，他笑着和我说，我来给你送礼物了，我收下礼物，打开一看，是一张纸，上边写着：我愿你好好学习，天天向上!不要老是想着放假!

Christmas DayChristmas Day falls on the twenty-fifth of December. It is a very happy day for many boys and girls . Before the term ends in some schools , the children act a nativity① or “birth” play, showing how Jesus② was born in a stable③。

On the twenty-fourth of December, all children are very excited. Usually they are sent to bed early so that their parents can get the presents ready. the younger children think that Father Christmas will come down the chimney or fireplace , so they hang up a sock for him to put presents in. the GREedy ones even hang up a pillow-case④ or a sack⑤ to try to get more presents. Later that night, Father or Mother will put presents in the sock, and leave others at the side of the bed. On Christmas morning, the children wake up very early. Some even turn on the light at two oclock, and most of them are awake by six oclock although it is not light in England for another hour or two at this time of the year.Children look for their presents , and the young ones play while the dinner is prepared. At about one oclock in the afternoon, the Christmas dinner is brought in . the turkey or chicken is quickly eaten . Children search in their Christmas pudding for new coins which are hidden in it . the rest of the day is full of games and eating until the happiest of all Christmas hollidays comes to an end.

Christmas is the most important festival in the western world. It falls on December 25th. When my mother and I stayed in America, we were invited by one of my mothers friends to have Christmas with an American family. We bought some presents for our American friends on our way to their house.

They had prepared different kinds of gifts for their family and guests when we got to their house, such as Christmas candles, cakes, cards, little toys, biscuits and so on. A Christmas tree was placed in the comer of the brilliant hall. How beautiful it was! We were impressed by these. We had a big meal.
