Moonquakes are to Mid-Autumn Festival what mince pies are to Christmas. It was thanks to a skillful archer named Hour Yi that the Earth was saved. He shot down all but one of the suns. As his reward，the Heavenly Queen Mother gave Hour Yi the Elixir of Immortality，but she warned him that he must use it wisely.

Hour Yi ignored her advice and，corrupted by fame and fortune，became a tyrannical leader. Chang-Err，his beautiful wife， could no longer stand by and watch him abuse his power so she stole his Elixir and fled to the moon to escape his angry wrath. And thus began the legend of the beautiful woman in the moon，the Moon Fairy.

The second legend has it that during the Yuan Dynasty，an underground group led by Zhu Yuan Zing was determined to rid the country of Mongolian dominance. The moon cake was created to carry a secret message.

When the cake was opened and the message read，an uprising was unleashed which successfully routed the Mongolians. It happened at the time of the full moon，which，some say，explains why moonquakes are eaten at this time.

Moonquakes are usually stamped with Chinese characters indicating the name of the ry and the type of filling used. Some ries will even stamp them with your family name so that you can give personalized ones to friends and family.

They are usually presented in boxes of four which indicate the four phases of the moon. Traditional moonquakes are made with melted lard，but today vegetable oil is more often used in the interests of health.

Moonquakes are not for the diet-conscious as they are loaded with calories. The best way to wash down one of these sticky cakes is with a cup of Chinese tea，especially Jasmine or Chrysanthemum tea，which aids the digestion.

有些事是很容易忘掉的。但有些事却总是难以从心头抹去。中考成绩出来时，我落榜了未能如您所愿——考入重点高中。当时我觉得很自卑，为此郁郁寡欢。失望；苦闷，充斥着我那颗已冰冷的心，我觉得自己成了社会的弃儿。我所面临的事实就是放弃学业。当向您提起放弃学业时，您恼火了，再困难，也要让你有文化，就是砸锅卖铁，卖房子，也要让你读，人没有知识处处都受罪！

此时我已感受到了您传递的殷殷母爱，您的鼓励给了我无限的力量和信心。实话告诉您吧。其实我又何尝不想读书呢？我对自己还有很高的期望。我不忍心看见你和爸爸为了我们操劳半生，黑发变白，费尽心血。听了您的叨唠，那天我整夜未眠，一直在想如此的母爱，能让人醉在其中；如此的母爱让人为之而振奋；如此的母爱让人在不知不觉中上瘾。我还能忍心让您再失望吗？

妈妈，您的唠叨一直催我奋进，在我眼前常常出现您整天不顾劳累工作的身影，这些令我丝毫不敢懈怠，常晨曦苦读。妈妈，您的鼓励及安慰，总能让我在逆境中找到自我，让我在纷杂的尘世中永存那份做人的品性，不失那份人之初的纯真。

妈妈，您对我的爱，是春天里的一缕缕阳光，和煦地照耀在我身上；是夏日里的一丝凉风，平静了我心中的烦躁；是秋日里的一串硕果，指引我走向成功；是冬天里的一把火，温暖着我那颗冰冷的心。您对女儿的爱，无处不在！妈，我爱您，永远爱着您！永远不会因岁月的流逝而消减我对您那深深爱。
