The 23rd day of the 12th lunar month is called Preliminary Eve. At this time, people offer sacrifice to the kitchen god. Now however, most families make delicious food to enjoy themselves.

After the Preliminary Eve, people begin preparing for the coming New Year. This is called "Seeing the New Year in".

Store owners are busy then as everybody goes out to purchase necessities for the New Year. Materials not only include edible oil, rice, flour, chicken, duck, fish and meat, but also fruit, candies and kinds of nuts. 跟随记者的镜头，我有一次来到了世界着名的“新年圣地”——纽约时代广场、悉尼歌剧院、伦敦塔桥，还有上海的外滩、北京的中华世纪坛。

每年的这个时候，我看着镜头中的人们，在深夜，为着新年的到来，狂欢不已，心里总是觉得有一种遗憾，就是没能和他们一样，站在城市的地标，看着惊妙绝伦的焰火表演，跟着大家一块倒计时，感受着热烈的气氛与新年到来的喜悦。
