Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study in Britain for two years.

I enclose a detailed curriculum vitae and an offprint of my article, together with two letters of recommendation from Dr. Li Ming and Dr. Ma Li.

Waking up on New Year, everybody dresses up. First they extend greetings to

their parents. Then each child will get money as a New Year gift, wrapped up in

red paper. People in northern China will eat jiaozi, or dumplings, for

breakfast, as they think "jiaozi" in sound means "bidding farewell to the old

and ushering in the new". Also, the shape of the dumpling is like gold ingot

from ancient China. So people eat them and wish for money and treasure.

Southern Chinese eat niangao (New Year cake made of glutinous rice flour)

on this occasion, because as a homophone, niangao means "higher and higher, one

year after another." The first five days after the Spring Festival are a good

time for relatives, friends, and classmates as well as colleagues to exchange

greetings, gifts and chat leisurely.

China has 56 ethnic groups. Minorities celebrate their Spring Festival

almost the same day as the Han people, and they have different customs.

今天，天气转凉，大家都披上了大衣，来到了美丽的校园，小鸟似乎变少了，小草开始掉发了，大叔开始掉牙了，这意味着一年即将过去了，一眨眼十月已经过半，一年还有最后的三分之一，一天跟光速一般，在这光是的日子里发生了许多有趣的事情，在中学的每一节可我都听得非常认真听从老师指挥和安排，也在每一节课里紧紧抓住每一个知识点，虽然上课很死板，但有几堂课却让我记忆犹新，比如今天的英语课……

“叮铃铃”上课铃响了，我静静的坐在位子上等待老师上课，在我看来英语课有时有趣，有时却非常无聊，而今天这堂英语课让我改变了对它的看法，我相信这样有趣的课堂老师也一定发了不少心思来准备这堂课，在上课时老师突然给我们来了个对抗游戏，男生VS女生哪一方选手问题回答的多，那方就获胜。

比赛开始了，男生，女生都不甘示弱，勇于站起来回答问题，外面狂风大作，里面却是这番热闹的情景，一分钟过去了，二分钟过去了，三分钟过去了男生和女生之间出现了距离，眼看第一大题就要结束，我们男生非常着急，想挽回局面，正当我们要开始翻盘时，第一大题居然就这然结束了，不过还好，还有第二大题，谁赢谁输还不一定呢？第二大局开始了，经过一番调整的我们，又开始追逐了紧张又激烈的气氛依旧未停，男生们依然努力的追赶着分数，能追一分是一分，女生好像有点骄傲了，回答的人越来越少，我们分数渐渐多了起来，直到最后一题是我们只差女生两分了，当我们认为胜负已定时，老师突然说最后一题回答对加两分，这是我们脸上又有了笑容，因为班长把自己的手举得高高的，他是我们最后的一线希望了，你是男生唯一的靠山了，当老师在黑板上花了两个大星星后就意味着我们的努力没有白费，我们终于胜利了！

今天的这节有趣的英语课给我们打来了许多欢乐和笑声！

马上就要迎来中华人民传统的节日——春节了。过年可好啦，能吃很多的美味佳肴。有四喜丸子、红烧狮子头、清蒸鱼等很多很多的好吃的，还能收到压岁钱。我们小孩子最喜欢的事就是过年了。哎，爸爸回来了，我来问一下他们小时候是怎么过年的。 爸爸听了我的问题后，便滔滔不绝地说了起来。“我们小时候啊，可没有你们现在这么幸福，想要什么就要什么，想吃什么就吃什么，只有逢年过节才能吃到肉。虽然这样，可我们那时还是觉得很幸福。”正巧，妈妈买菜回来了，听见我们的对话，便说：“是啊，现在的生活这么幸福，你可要好好学习，将来报效祖国呀!” 问完了爸爸妈妈就该问奶奶了。我跑到厨房，这时，奶奶正在包饺子，我走到奶奶身旁问：“奶奶，你们小时候怎么过年呀?”奶奶说：“我们小时候啊，比你爸爸妈妈他们还苦，一年甚至几年的时间才能吃上一回肉。想想那时的生活，真是令人心酸呀!”奶奶说着说着，还抹起了眼泪。最后，奶奶也像爸爸妈妈那样叮嘱我，要我好好学习，长大为祖国效力。 听了爸爸妈妈和奶奶的话，我受益匪浅。祖国这些年进步得这么快，我一定好好学习，让祖国更加繁荣。

如果你想问我这个春节过得怎么样，我会毫不犹豫地回答：“这个春节我过得很快乐。”

春节前，我见家里人要带小孩要工作很不容易，于是我便自觉地为家人減轻负担，每天早上，我会到表姐的店铺中做买卖，如果没有客人光临店铺，我就会放一些悦耳动听的歌曲吸引客人们的眼光，除此之外，我还会将一些过年的祝福语写在包装袋上，这样，客人们看到祝福语时，大多会多买一些。当客人们和我说再见时，我总不忘对客人们说上一句：“谢谢您的光临。”这句话伟到了客人耳旁时，大多的客人会有第二次的到来，就这样，金钱们源源不断地流进了我的口袋里。

正因为我挣到了这么多的钱，全家人在春节那天晚上感觉很快乐。春节那天晚上，我用我自已挣来的钱让全家人在大酒店里尝到了春节的美味。全家人在酒店里没有一个不是喜笑颜开的。大家个个嘴里也都发出了赞叹：“这真是美味的食物啊！”晚饭过后，我得到了家人的赞美：“哇！真是太出乎意料了。真没想到，你这小小年纪，居然挣了这不少的钱，来请全家人吃一顿饭啊！”话音刚落，他们不禁对我竖起了大姆指。此时，又有谁的心里没有感到一股温暖呢？

在这个春节，我挣到很多我，学到了做生意的本领，让全家人饱餐一顿，这样的春节怎能叫人不快乐呢？

盼望着，新年的脚步近了，近了;高兴着，春天的风儿来了，来了;挥手着，今年的日子别了，别了。

这是2020年的最后一天——农历十二月三十一日。吃过了晚饭，全家人准备着，期待着，春晚的开始。“叮铃铃——”电话欢快的声音打破了看似漫长的等待。我提起了电话，是好友李打来的——“喂，下来不?带上几支烟花!”我二话不说，披上外套，抄起烟花，蹬上鞋，潇洒地冲下楼。

几位挚友早已迫不及待。在小区花园里，我们找到了几块木头，把它们堆起来，生了一大堆火，我们凑在一起，看着升腾的火焰，听着噼啪的声音，沉浸在美好的世界里。突然，“啪”的一声鞭炮声，打破了美好的世界。我们都被吓着了，辉哈哈大笑。原来他抽出以一根名叫“擦炮”的小玩意儿。在篝火中点燃，扔向了李，擦炮大战就在这一场恶作剧中来、拉开了帷幕。最有趣的是将一个个擦炮摆出好看的图案，然后将一个擦炮的火药倒在所有的中间，然后点燃一个擦炮，将它放在火药上，这个时候擦炮就点燃了，火光冲天，排山倒海，震耳欲聋。

玩累了，扔乏了，跑不动了，笑够了。我们掏出一种叫“仙女棒”的烟花。点燃了，拿在手中挥来挥去，划出图案，留在空中的痕迹美极了。

后来，我们拿出孔明灯，在上面用荧光笔写满了新年的祝福，然后大家一起拖着，李在下面点燃了蜡，渐渐地火光越燃越大。我们慢慢的丢了。孔明灯飞向了高高的天际，带着我们的祝福和梦。

大家又凑在篝火旁，看着繁星密布的天际，小区的另一边传来了声声炮响，五彩缤纷，光辉灿烂。闻声而去，一群大哥哥大姐姐在放烟花，哇塞，还有一个老外。他们盛情的邀请我们来放鞭炮，并且送我们一人一根仙女棒，哇塞，好长，和我们的相比，是那么长，那么长。我们一起玩得很开心，繁星密布的天空，星星的光越闪越亮了。

新年的脚步更近了，近了，近了!

周看了一下手表，“还有一分钟”我们拿出烟花，围成一个圈，中间是一个大的烟花，“5……”我们纷纷点燃了导火索，“4……3……2……1……”烟花全都一起射了出去，多么绚丽，新春的钟声也在这时打响了。

新年来了，来了。绚丽地，华丽地，轻轻地来了。

今年的春节又到了，在孩子们的欢呼声中，在早晨那清脆的爆竹声中，它再一次悄然而至。

对于众多孩子来说，春节的到来是令人兴奋的，他们唱歌，他们舞蹈，以庆祝他们的喜庆节曰。但对于我来说，春节没有这么好，春节的到来，却不能给我带来喜悦。因为我是穷人家的孩子。

每当春节早上我一醒来，就在想：“要是我早上能意外得到父母的压岁钱，能有好多的点心吃，那该有多好呀!每当想到这里便不由自主地跳下床，可是，无情的事实不得不让我熄灭了心中的希看之火。我不得不再一次告诫自己：别再痴心妄想了，你是穷人家的孩子，然后，我只有默默地坐在门口，看着别家孩子们欢乐的笑脸。

又是一阵清脆的爆竹声，把我从往事中拉了回来。是啊，我该起床了，尽管得不到父母的压岁钱，还有那琳琅满目的点心，可床还是得起的。

我以极快的速度梳洗完毕，当我跨出房门时，厅堂里的一幕吸引了我的目光，没错!那是我爸妈摆放出来的点心，没错的!当我想到这时，妈妈走了过来，手里还拿了一张崭新的50元人民币带着无穷关爱说：“丽，新年快乐，这是你今年的压岁钱，拿好，别丢了!”我顿时惊呆了。问道：“妈，我们家庭状况不好，拿压岁钱干啥?”妈笑了笑：“傻孩子，改革开放这么久了，我家状况也好多了，以前是爸妈对不起你，但是以后，不用再受穷了，你就放心拿着好了。”“那边还有点心，多吃点。”我一蹦一跳，跑到点心前，抓了一大把，开心地吃了个愉快。我靠着门边，一手拿着点心，一手捏着妈妈给我的压岁钱，再看着不远处那群孩子打闹的情景，听着大人们说着“新年发财”的祝语，耳畔是那此起彼伏的爆竹声，心中不觉畅快无比!

During the winter vacation, nothing is different for my life. I wake up 11

o’clock Am everyday, after a washing, I have a good lunch with my parents. Next

I play computer games till the time to have supper. After have dinner. I go on

playing till 2 o’clock Am, and then go to sleep with tired. This is one dull day

of my winter vacation.But I haven’t bored all the time. Sometimes I read the

books, sometime I listen to the music or the radio in the bed，because it was

very cold outside and snowy all the day. And I also meat some of my good friends

during the vacation ,we have a very long talk about the life of each other in

the past year and play table tennis tegether .And I watched the spring festival

party of the CCTV in the last seconds of the 2004 year! I think this is the

thing most people of china doing at that time.that’s all, all my dull, coldly

and snowy winter vacation.

Although the winter vacation, I will continue my learning, in the morning,

is a good time to read, with the early morning, our family to read with relish,

three people has become a bookworm. Dad read the literary works such as crazy,

my mother read prose leisurely affectionate, for me, I read catchy childrens

poetry. A book, lets open horizon, increase knowledge. Reading good books is

like and wise in the communication, the author of often we read happy place,

could not help but laugh; Read moving place, can flow was moved to tears... . A

good book, often make us forget all about eating and sleeping, really achieve

"reading a good book, three days and I do not know meat".

Winter vacation, there is a Spring Festival, this is my most happy moment.

The New Year, my father came back from the street to buy a dozen small red

lanterns, and string them into 2 series, dad smiled and said: "the twelve red

lanterns indicates our whole family, in the New Year, twelve months are

prosperous". Mother, busy preparing for dinner, but rich, seafood, vegetables,

beef, little of course not a fish, in the traditional Chinese Spring Festival,

eat fish means "more than" year after year, good luck. I have not been idle, and

come back to the supermarket to buy necessities such as orange juice and

beer.

Winter vacation, I could have just like all the children have a blast, but

my eyesight is bad, only looking at the computer to buy, occasionally WangSha

腊月二十四我家就开始了扫尘。一大清早家人们都在打扫房子，妈妈擦玻璃，我扫地，外爷外婆擦灰。打扫完屋子大人们就出去办年货了。新年的第一天就在忙碌中度过了。

春节快要到了，大家都开始忙活起来：贴春联......我也来介绍一下我们家的春节的风俗。

简单的风俗有贴春联，为了驱赶“年兽”;把“福”字倒着贴，因为“福到了”，这些都知道，接下来是复杂的，比如说贴门神，都经常贴关二爷，为什么?因为这是一种迷信说法，如果有不吉祥的东西、人，走到这家贴了门神的人家，关二爷是不会让他进去的，而且小偷也怕关二爷，因为关羽是一副威武的样子。还有拜灶神，在腊月二十四，把它贴在厨房的墙壁上，这天，大家就要拜菩萨，菩萨要到天宫，告诉玉帝这家人的善恶和罪过，它当天晚上还要接回来，口中念念有词，叫菩萨多说他们的好话，再供奉些水果点心，这样，就把灶神菩萨接回来了。

接下来是吃团圆饭，不是给大家吃，是给已去世的人吃，不可以乱动，否则这家人就不会有好日子，我听爷爷讲的，这种说法很迷信，吃饱了就是我们吃了。会上好好好多菜，有鱼，象征“年年有鱼”，还有饺子，里面什么馅都有，让已结婚的人吃枣子馅，“枣”生贵子!让走进事业的人，吃有硬币的芹菜馅，财运旺!让我们小孩子吃肉馅，健康成长!一边吃一边在外面放鞭炮，这样把春节推上高潮，呀，还忘了一个。对了!发红包，晚辈先给长辈送上祝福，才能拿压岁钱。然后吃完了唱歌跳舞，看春节联欢晚会。

十二点的钟声敲响了!大家一起守岁，五、四、三、二、一!新的一年开始了，趁这个时候，门窗全开，喔，不是放鞭炮，是迎财神，家家都希望财神到自己家来，来年会兴旺，发达的，在财神面前许个愿，春节就这么过去了。

有了这么多风俗这个春节一定够开心，够充实。

20xx年2月8日 星期六 雪在湖南乡下的爷爷奶奶家里，以往每年我们回去都能看到白茫茫的雪，今年也不例外，我终于等到了期盼已久的下雪天！看！雪正纷纷往下飘落就像一只只在空中飞舞的白蝴蝶，漂亮极了！

今天，我和堂弟看电视正入迷时，妈妈突然叫了一声，把我和弟弟吓一跳，往窗外一看，我们都高兴得跳起来了，“下雪啦！”我们都欢呼起来。漫天的雪花在空中飞舞，一会儿飘到东，一会儿飞到西，一片片雪花飘在我衣服上，一下子就不见了，他在跟我玩捉迷藏呢！弟弟趁我不注意时从地上抓了一把雪捏了个雪球向我抛来，我也毫不示弱，朝他扔去，在雪地里，虽然我们的小手冻得通红，但我们真的很开心！

慢慢地我全身的雪洒满啦好像给我穿上了一件白纱裙，美极了！路上，房顶上，树上，田野里都铺上了一层厚厚的雪，这场雪给整个大地盖上了厚厚的一层棉被呀！老家的这场雪让我留恋往返，但我们得回老家啦！
