The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

My name is ________. There are 4 people in my family. My father is a Chemistry teacher. He teaches chemistry in senior high school. My mother is an English teacher. She teaches English in the university. I have a younger brother, he is a junior high school student and is preparing for the entrance exam.

I like to read English story books in my free time. Sometimes I surf the Internet and download the E-books to read. Reading E-books is fun. In addition, it also enlarges my vocabulary words because of the advanced technology and the vivid animations.

I hope to study both English and computer technology because I am interested in both of the subjects. Maybe one day I could combine both of them and apply to my research in the future.

草长莺飞的春，骄阳似火的夏，硕果累累的秋，似乎与我的性格都不相符，或许只有天寒地冻的冬才是我最喜。之所以会喜欢冬，是因为她会下雪，因为那一年的故事：

天色渐渐的暗淡，雪娃娃似乎很眷恋大地的温暖，一个个欢快的从空中滑落。我伸出手，想捧住一片雪花，可是那些看上去白白的、软软的雪花刚碰到手便消融了。此时的大地早已披上一层银装，雪已堆积到脚踝的高度，走在雪地里，那些雪娃娃便“咔嚓咔嚓”欢快地叫起来，似乎在说：走慢点，挠得我好痒呀！

天边的最后一丝彩霞悄然退去，此时的天地，只剩下白银银的雪，黑色的天边中夹杂着一丝淡蓝，但都给雪照亮了，有了雪的映衬，天空显得更深邃，更辽阔。

家里的灯打开，雪又被染成金黄色，但不失她那高雅的本色。我抬头仰望，发现此时的雪已比刚才的雪更洒脱，更纷飞了。面前的雪幕，就像是一颗颗洁白的珍珠穿成的如梦一般的珠帘从空中撒下，那般的飘渺，那般的神奇，那般的美丽。

突然，我的思绪被一双大手打断，那双大手把我推进雪丛中，我刚想发怒，一看是爸爸正笑嘻嘻拿着俩手套，神飞色舞地对我说：“我们来堆雪人怎么样？”堆雪人！这可是我第一次堆雪人，没想到爸爸和我一起堆雪人。我高兴地接过爸爸给我的手套，一不小心跌在雪地里，还吃了几口“雪糕”，爸爸很紧张抱起我，但见到我的笑脸又放松了。此时，我却感觉到雪的温度，暖暖的、软软的，似乎还甜甜的。爸爸先给我做了一个小雪球，让我在雪地里慢慢滚，说这样可以让雪球变大。但雪球经不住我的折磨，而是越变越小。然爸爸手中的雪球就像玩具一样，乖乖的贴着爸爸的手掌，越来越大，我很不服气，便和爸爸展开一场决斗，可结果仍是以失败而告终。我们的战果很特殊：爸爸的雪人像巨人一样站在旁边，守护着我的小雪人，守护着我。

那年或许是我见过的最大的一场雪，这些年的雪只是在空中飘了几下，好像只是为了预示冬的到来，而后消失得无影无踪。

我好怀念冬天的大雪，怀念往昔的日子，更怀念往昔的父亲。

The qingming (Pure Brightness) Festival is one of the 24 seasonal division points in China, falling on April 4-6 each year. After the festival, the temperature will rise up and rainfall increases. It is the high time for spring plowing and sowing. But the qingming Festival is not only a seasonal point to guide farm work, it is more a festival of commemoration.

The qingming Festival sees a combination of sadness and happiness.

This is the most important day of sacrifice. Both the Han and minority ethnic groups at this time offer sacrifices to their ancestors and sweep the tombs of the diseased. Also, they will not cook on this day and only cold food is served.

The Hanshi (Cold Food) Festival was usually one day before the qingming Festival. As our ancestors often extended the day to the qingming, they were later combined.

On each qingming Festival, all cemeteries are crowded with people who came to sweep tombs and offer sacrifices. Traffic on the way to the cemeteries becomes extremely jammed. The customs have been greatly simplified today. After slightly sweeping the tombs, people offer food, flowers and favorites of the dead, then burn incense and paper money and bow before the memorial tablet.

In contrast to the sadness of the tomb sweepers, people also enjoy hope of Spring on this day. The qingming Festival is a time when the sun shines brightly, the trees and grass become green and nature is again lively. Since ancient times, people have followed the custom of Spring outings. At this time tourists are everywhere.

People love to fly kites during the qingming Festival. Kite flying is actually not limited to the qingming Festival. Its uniqueness lies in that people fly kites not during the day, but also at night. A string of little lanterns tied onto the kite or the thread look like shining stars, and therefore, are called "gods lanterns."

The qingming Festival is also a time to plant trees, for the survival rate of saplings is high and trees grow fast later. In the past, the qingming Festival was called "Arbor Day". But since 1979, "Arbor Day" was settled as March 12 according to the Gregorian calendar.
