I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumass last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in life when they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimes past situations prevent them from changing their lives, even though they desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and women in many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime; drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems; poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists in the whole society.

As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, the Comte de G. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke needed to “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could never replace his dead daughter. The farmers got richer by planting vegetables and raising silkworms. In their houses there were colour TV sets, fridges,washing machines, new furniture and even motorbikes. All these showed the farmers life was getting better and better.

The great changes had attracted foreigners. Today some of them would come to visit it. We were happy for the farmers. We hope the farmers will be richer and happier.

I was born in Xiangtan,Huan.Its a beautiful place.I love it very much.

Now please let me tell you something about my hometown--Hunan Province.

Hunan Province is in the south of China,which covers an area of 211,800 square kilometers.The population is about 66 million and the capital city is Changsha.

There are many places of interest in Hunan,such as Zhangjiajie and Mount Heng.And a lot of famous persons were born here like Mao Zedong and Zeng Guofan.

Hunan is rich in natural resources.And it has made great achievements in economic development.

I love my hometown.And welcome to visit it!

我是喜欢夜晚的，它可以给我无限的遐想，可以给我无限的思维空间，可以给我！

家乡的夜晚是那么的宁静，宁静地安逸，宁静地舒爽，宁静地让人浮想联翩。喜欢故乡的夜晚，因为在那个小小的村庄，我可以一个人静静地躺在楼顶，享受夏的温存，欣赏月的洁白，看流星的陨逝；可以一个人走在乡村小道上，聆听虫鸣鸟叫，没有汽车的轰鸣，没有人际吵杂，就那样享受大自然给予的和谐。一边轻轻地呼吸新鲜的，从大自然发出的，没有污染的空气，一边享受如春暖花开般的安逸。那样的生活是美好的，是让我享用不尽的。

当火车驶出故乡的海岸线，驶出我生活了19年，驶出我不曾离开的那个海岛，就决定了我在异乡生活的开始，决定了我新的人生的起航。

当我来到这个我不曾到达的城市，这里的一切都是新鲜的，它让我产生一种去了解它的欲望。是的，这是一个很好的地方，有美丽的山，有洁净的街道，有热情的人民。但是，当我一直从中国的最南端到达这里，经历了家乡春夏秋冬的温度，我对它产生的些许好感，因为它的温度让我的身体感到舒适，让我的精神得到充沛。但是它远不如我的故乡，那个和谐健康的海岛。来到这里，我的身体有了以往未曾有过的舒适，但我的呼吸道，我的大脑，开始曾受不一样的压力，这里的空气是污浊的，是干燥的；而家乡的空气是是新鲜的，是湿润的。突然改变的生活环境让我有些不适应。

但是这里的夜晚也是那么的宁静，那么的安逸，舒爽的温度可以让我更好的遐想未来，回味过去。看着窗外阑珊的灯火，那宁静的夜空，还有夜空中那闪烁的星星，我的心思飞舞，这样的夜晚让我没有一丁点瞌睡的欲望。这样的夜晚让我不禁感觉我还在那个安逸舒适宁静的乡村，那个我怀念着的家。
