I often go to see my grandma and grandpa during winter vacation. They are

both seventy years old and live in the country happily. I can do many

interesting things there. I am used to getting up early in the morning and

breathing the fresh air in the countryside. After snow, I would like to skate

and ski with my friends. When night comes, I am used to sitting by the fire and

listening to grandma telling me many funny stories. And I tell her some new

things happening in the city. When I have to go back, I am always reluctant to

go. I really feel happy living in the country.

However, people were much more stable and care-free when our grandparents were children; they did not have to learn a second language in order to get a better job, or read a lot in order to get informed. Yet in our age, these are supposed to be the responsibility of young people.

Another discomfort of our age is that we are experiencing interpersonal alienation. With the development of communication technology, people in fact become alienated with friends and relatives since they could be so easily accessed via phone or email. Too often we feel that few of our friends are true friends, without the traditional feeling of mutual affection which could only be created by longtime apart. But several decades ago, people treasured their friends and maintained relatively close interpersonal relations, which is much more enjoyable than the estrangements we are experiencing.

The last factor that has made our age so uncomfortable is the abusive use of technology. Although it brings much convenience, it essentially changes human – we are no longer the master of tools, but instead the slaves of devices. We rush to metro station in order to catch an early train, sit in front of radioactive computers all day long in order to get our work done, and stay in air-conditioned rooms all summer without experiencing the natural changes outside thick cement walls. Several decades ago, people could still live closer to nature and make rational use of modern technology, which to me is the essence of human living experience.

However, the comparison between different times is itself ridiculous. The criteria could not be easily determined, and opinions are highly personal. Anyway, we have a longer life span, more advanced medical facilities, and easier traffic than our grandparent when they were children, and we should treasure the present experience. Imagination of the past might only be nostalgia – if I ask my grandparents the same question, they might as well say that our life is much better than the past generations. Who knows? 妈妈又开始了“连珠炮”：“瞧你那德行，身上的衣服又破又烂又掉色，给你买件新的，暖和又大方，还舍不得穿哩!照这样下去，我早晚要把你开除了!”的确，爸爸的衣服还真有点寒酸，怪不得快嘴妈妈生气。此时，一向信奉“沉默是金”的简朴爸终于开了口：“那袄100多元，要是每天吃一次肉，到过年也吃不完，把我的儿子都养胖了，那多好……”“滚，吃!吃!饿得你骨瘦如柴了!你看人家，穿西装打领带，咱又不是穿不起，给你买了还不穿，以后不和你一起出门，丢死人了!”妈妈的口才还真不赖。“哼，嫌我穿得不好，干干净净就行了，我才不装洋蒜。今年过年就穿去年的，一百多元，还不如留着吃肉。”爸爸始终坚持已见。“呸!过年你就在家待着吧，省得出去被人小看!”妈妈快嘴不饶人。爸爸有点严肃地问我和弟弟：“你们能坚持不吃肉吗?要是能，我就穿。”“能!”两张口一个声音。“你俩……”爸爸发出苦笑。妈妈扑哧一声也笑了。

生活，简简单单就好。

She is my university Fudan University.

The first time I entered the campus as a freshman, I was deeply attracted by her cultural atmosphere and historical connotation. Fudan is a graceful lady who is accustomed to serenity but meanwhile each action of hers outpours her innermost tern perament. Apparently it is worth every effort to probe into her world for the sake of both physical and mental enrichment. Her humanistic spirit inspires me to care for everything around, even the most trivial one.

On the other hand, catching up with the times, Fudan is modern and smart. You see, the many age-old buildings here are actually great libraries and labs. Scientific and technological developrnent is easily smelt in the air,because she never lags behind the world.

Fabulously, such a historical and scientific school is far more than an operational mechanism. Her everlasting youth and vigor beam through every corner of the campus and the young in school vivify every piece of concrete and wood here.
