受地震影响，巴基斯坦和阿富汗大量楼房倒塌和房屋破损。据媒体称，地震发生时巴基斯坦和印度建筑“墙壁摇晃”，惊慌的人们逃出室外躲避。

据报道，阿富汗首都喀布尔的建筑物剧烈摇晃，巴基斯坦西北部和中部的旁遮普省有震感，巴基斯坦当地的电视新闻频道显示人们纷纷逃出办公大楼。印度首都新德里的建筑物摇晃时间超过一分钟，办公室工作人员纷纷奔逃到街上。

地震也导致部分地区电力和通讯中断。BBC在巴基斯坦城市拉合尔的记者说，地震后电话线曾中断。巴基斯坦白沙瓦的一名记者当时正在和家人共进午餐，他表示：“因为没法下楼，因此我们立即爬到屋顶。整栋房子好像就要垮了。女人和孩子都哭了出来。”

在印度首都德里，一些学校和办公室也进行了疏散，德里地铁也一度暂停。

地震发生时，不少民众因房屋倒塌受伤或遇难。阿富汗一所女校的女生试图从摇晃的建筑中往外跑，由此导致的踩踏事件致使12名女生身亡，另有30名女生被送往医院。

仍有人被埋废墟之下 救援陆续展开

据媒体报道，目前仍有人被埋在地震废墟之下。同时，由于灾区地处偏远，恐将对救援和人数统计等工作带来困难。

地震发生后，印度总理莫迪在社交网站上说，他已经命令对任何损失进行紧急评估。他表示，如果需要，印度随时做好对阿富汗和巴基斯坦的援助准备。伊朗通讯社称，该国已经准备向阿富汗和巴基斯坦派遣救援队伍。

阿富汗政府长官阿卜杜拉·阿卜杜拉称，阿政府工作人员紧急会面，讨论地震救援工作。

英国一位地震专家则表示，该地震的杀伤力“非常大”，幸亏它的震源离地表有200多公里。

据报道，该地区也有强震的历史，这是由于印度北部的板块与中亚板块冲撞的结果。

2005年，巴控克什米尔地区发生7.6级地震，造成7.5万人死亡。今年4月，尼泊尔强震也造成近9000人死亡，90万处房屋被毁。
