A Tale of Two Cities is one of Dickens’s masterpieces; the story is an exposure of the contradiction before France Revolution-the appealing of “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” by France lower class.

The main clue of the novel is based on the terrible experience of Dr. Manette, the plot is very complex, attracting, and exciting. Lying at the heart of which we can see the themes from different people.

Sydney Carton

When I read the chapter pertaining to interrogation on Charles Darney, intuition tells that the lawyer assistant who feels at ease with his eyes fixed on the ceiling must be a very special man, which turned out to be right when I finished the whole book. He seems indifferent about everything, even his love. He is brilliant but he thinks otherwise, or rather, he thinks he is inferior to others. Even his master thinks that if he worried about this or that, he would make a great success. Feeling of humbleness is the fatal point leading the loss of his beloved one. If Lucie Manette lives with him, he thinks, she would sustain much hardship. At the end of the story, he sacrifices his life for his love willingly.

Many people say that love is selfish and egocentric, but the temperament of Sydney Carton tells us that love can be sublime and pure. Through this, Dickens tells us loving someone doesn’t mean you should live together with him or her. You can help your beloved one silently, even sacrifice for love. This is universal fraternity, I think, which is the sublimation of normal love. And also, Dickens may indicate that true love really exists, regardless of the situation is full of commotion or not.

Charles Darney

He’s born at a family of royal lineage-the son of Marquis. Regret and abomination fill in his mind for the cruelty and the crime his family have done to the poor. He determines to quit the right of inheritance of his family and moves to England to acting as a French teacher. When he comes back to France, his notorious and sadistic uncle who holds the succession of the family doesn’t welcome him. His uncle is doomed to death because of his cruelty. When he returns to England, he proposes marriage to Lucie Manette. He knows his proposal may not be accepted by Dr.Manette, for he is the son of the enemy of Dr.Manette. After the France Revolution breaks out, he returns to France again to save a servant. But unfortunately, he’s cast into prison.

Lucie Manette

She goes to France with Jarvis Lorry to take her father back, she shows great sympathy to Sydney Carton, and she prayed his husband would get an early deliverance from captivity.

She is a kind-hearted lady made of love and sympathy; she is also the incarnation of elegance.

Dr.Manette

As a victim of the gloom society, he lives a miserable and contradictory life. After releasing from prison, the only thing he does is making shoes, which become worse when he comes across a harsh situation. He loves his daughter just as she does to him, even when he knows that Charles Darney is the son of his enemy, he allow the proposal. And when he notices his daughter was totally down to know the fact that her husband was put into prison, he promise to her that he will rescue him out. He spares no effects to do that, in vain, though.

From this person, Dickens may tells that love between the lower-class family members are as pure as crystal.

Jarvis Lorry

An elderly manager at Tellsons Bank and a dear friend of Dr. Manette. He is very loyal to Dr. Manette. He accompanies them all the time without considering his own life.

Couple Defarge

They’re the leader of the revolution. Ernest Defarge, to some extent, is a good man. He was the servant of Dr.Manette, he provides accommodation for him. But his wife, Madame Defarge, is really a wicked woman. She knits all the time, she wants to kill all the people who lead a richer or happier life just out of envying and revenge. The result turns out to be dramatic: she’s killed by herself as a consequence that the gun goes off by accident.

Resurrection maybe is the main theme in the novel. Dickens here implied that he doesn’t agree the upper class treat the poor badly, meanwhile, he doesn’t agree the lower-class to overthrow the upper class. He hopes that they can live in harmony with each other. Underneath the lines, Dickens wants his readers to be careful that the same sort of revolution that so damaged France wont happen in Britain, which is shown to be nearly as unjust as France. But his warning is addressed not to the British lower classes, but to the aristocracy. He repeatedly uses the metaphor of sowing and reaping; if the aristocracy continues to plant the seeds of a revolution through behaving unjustly, they can be certain of harvesting that revolution in time. The lower classes do not have any agency in this metaphor: they simply react to the behavior of the aristocracy. In this sense it can be said that while Dickens sympathizes with the poor, he identifies with the rich: they are the books audience, its "us" rather than its "them". Crush humanity out of shape once more, under similar hammers, and it will twist itself into the same tortured forms. Sow the same seed of rapacious license and oppression over again and it will surely yield the same fruit according to its kind.

The Scarlet Letter attained an immediate and lasting success because it addressed spiritual and moral issues from a uniquely American standpoint. In 1850, adultery was an extremely risqué subject, but because Hawthorne had the support of the New England literary establishment, it passed easily into the realm of appropriate reading. It has been said that this work represents the height of Hawthornes literary genius; dense with terse descriptions. It remains relevant for its philosophical and psychological depth, and continues to be read as a classic tale on a universal theme.[6] Another consideration to note having to do with the books popularity is that it was one of the first mass-produced books in America. Into the mid-nineteenth century, bookbinders of home-grown literature typically hand-made their books and sold them in small quantities. The first mechanized printing of "The Scarlet Letter," 2,500 volumes, sold out immediately, was widely read and discussed to an extent not much experienced in the young country up until that time. Copies of the first edition are often sought by collectors as rare books, and may fetch up to around $6,000 USD.

A piggy named Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte became friend. The future of this poor piggy is a delicious course of the Christmas feast. Though ever considering escaping, yet after all he is only a pig. While Charlotte--although be viewed as small and insignificant--said, "Let me help you!" Whereupon she used her silk to weave words such as "Some Pig" and "Terrific" in her web, which are regarded as a marvel by human beings. Those marvelous words alter Wilburs destiny, and finally earned him a happy and peace future. Nevertheless, at that moment, the life of Charlotte almost completed its span...

The most impressive episode of this book is the notable friendship between Charlotte and Wilbur. A spider is a threat to a piggy at first glance, but loneliness suddenly makes Wilbur be familiar with Charlotte and surprisingly he found that this spider is extraordinary warmhearted.

What impressed us deeply is the words "You never die, Ill save you!"by Charlotte when Wilbur was wailing "I dont wanna die! I dont!" To fulfill her promise, Charlotte devoted all her lifetime and asked no rewards, until the moment she died.

Such kind of friendship is pure and clean, Only leaving the selfless love and pure kindness. When this sort of emotion has already been lacked seriously in contemporary society, this story undoubtedly moves the readers. Maybe every reader envies that Charlotte has a Wilbur, and Wilbur has a Charlotte.

The word "Goodbye" has already gone with the wind, accompanied by her silk, only leaving a Charlottes web in everyones heart.

The Olympic Games, which originated in ancient Greece, is the most distinguished sporting event in the world. Once every four years, the utmost athletes from all around are lured to gather together and spare no efforts to compete against each other and try to win a medal for the country that they represent. Frankly speaking, that was virtually all I knew about the world-famous Olympic Games before I had read a book entitled The Olympics published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. However, I found even more philosophy beyond just winning medals from reading the book, which was beyond my imagination and considerably inspiring.

Someone once said, “Were everybody on earth involved in some kind of sport, our world would be free of war for long.” Starting from three thousand years ago, the ancient Olympic Games has long been an event not only for competition but also for peace. In ancient times, no war was allowed between the cities during the Games, which was rather surprising to me since I could hardly imagine warriors actally putting down their weapons and give a break for peace. The precious tradition of peace continued: I would never fail to recall the scene of the opening ceremonies when North and South Korean athletes entering the stadium with their hands held together. The two neighboring countries that used to be enemies are no longer enemies during the Games. Instead they became friends. Speaking of the XX Athens Olympics, perhaps most people would have the same opinion that the most noable part of the opening ceremony arrived when Iraqi and Afghan representatives showed up. These two unfortunate nations, the people of which have undergone innumerable wars, are coming back again to take their own responsibility in world sports after recent invasions by America. The fearless people of Iraq and Afghanistan are once more sharing the spirit of the Games with people from the rest of the world.

There is another story in this book that makes me deep in thoughts. There is no doubt that the most unusual Olympic Games ever in history is the 1936 Olympics held in Germany, which was then ruled by the Nazi Party. Led by Adolf Hitler, the Nazi believed that the so-called Aryan people were superior to all others in all aspects. They looked down upon Jews and blacks, the latter of which was a major constitution of the United States Olympic team. Despite the barrier that faced him, the African American Jesse Owens, who was a most outstanding runner and jumper, did all that he could and finally won gold medals for his country and went home a hero. This reveals another fact that no power on earth is able to hinder the sacred Olympic Games. For all participants, no matter what their gender, race, nationalities and backgrounds are, equality is distributed among every one who observes the Game’s rules.

At the XX Athens Olympics, our Chinese team did extraordinarily well. We ranked second on the medal lists for the first time in history. In my opinion, however, we should not only concentrate on the figure of medals; instead the strength and perseverance of those who failed to get any medals ought to be highly cherished. Whether ever success or failure, whether ever cheer or tear, whether ever medal or not, the never-gave-up spirits of athletes are always motivating us. I believe in the year 2008, the world will focus all their attention to Beijing, China, where the glory of the Games will continue to thrive forever!

If a woman has even a tiny sense of dignity, she must shoulder any number of sacrifices rather than have her love varnished with venal character by asking for money from her lover. Extravagances, luxury as well as all other empery pleasures are valuelein front of love. As long as you love me, I ask for nothing else.

-------Marguerite(La Dame Aux Camellias)

Whenever I lingered over the magnificant story, I cannot help deeply touched by the bitterly sweet love, which struck the world as gentle as an April shower, as pure as a blowing snow, as heady as an old wine. It condensed a paradise into a kept woman’s heart, which caught and held us transfixed against prejudice in mind and greed in nature, , and provided a journey that brought home to us a comprehensive understanding of love.

Marguerite, as a kept woman, did not undergo the usual penalty of confronting wrinkles appeared under her eyes, the first death of a courtesans, but was endowed enough fortune to enjoy an unselfish and gorgeous love during her ephemeral life, witch came as a wonderful oasis to lead supply a new prospect in a disparate desert, appeared as a miracle medication to heal her wound in the sinful life, figured as a brisk spring to refresh and revitalize her lonely heart, and emerged as a great beacon of courage to kill all her bad habits in the past and make a firm determination to seek for a peaceful but fantastic life with her loved one.

Lingering between the words, we could completely feel how kind and dignified she was. She refused Armond although she knew he was really loved her with his soul. because of her gloomy despair of life, she did not turn up in his life as a figure who was sad, ill, gay with a giant sadder than grief, besides witch, who spit blood and spent a hundred thousand francs in a year. Touching this words, how can we avoid our zealous sympathy for her? She bickered with the marquis and drove him away from her family, because she hated and refused to be treated as merchandise. Touching her deeds, how could we deny our high respect for her? At last, she renounced all her hope and life just because another woman’s name. What she e although you may get hurt, but it is the only way you can live absolutely. But what she experienced, what she faced and what she did made her a real sublime angle and an eternal ideal woman in people’ heart.

However, no matter what devout wish, no matter what gorgeous love, or no matter what strong struggle, the society was so stone stubborn that it would never show any mercy for a kept woman. Just as Armond said, when God allow a kept woman to accept a real love, it is indeed a grant comfort, but also remorselepunishment, for the man holds the cruel authority to say to his lover, “ Your love is just a kind of commodity”, though the woman had devoted all her heart and spirits to her loves. It cannot denied that it was Marguerite’s joyous fortune to have Armond in her poor destiny, but at the same time, it is also have to be admitted that what a hopeletorture she tolerated and what a disappointed suffering she endured at the last part of her life. It was really too much to her. We even cannot tell what kind our feeling soared inside our bosom, but just happy with her, sad with her, waiting with her, wishing with her, and disappointed with her……

shall we criticize Armond for his foolish and brute deed to Marguerite as he got the same hurt by his horrible vengeance? Shall we condemn Armond, father for his selfish monologue which destroys the kind woman’s dream? Shall we judge the motionlemerchant and policemen’s actions before the dying woman?

There are many kinds of love, between family members, lovers, friends or love of mercy for the weak , and jean valjeans love is to give all the poor people in the world, poor people, sympathy, and those who are worthy of respect. Is the book down, leaving me deeply shocked and moved.

Because of a minor crime, spent 14 years, in order to survive, he fled the shackles "sinners". Became a mayor has numerous property, a donated the most money to charities and the poor, so much so that he often go out a pocket full of money, the empty came back again. In addition, he also often give bread to starving people, give the clothes to cold; People everywhere. For the poor, he is like an umbrella, an embodiment of justice.

One of the most representative is he fang town with cosette, mother and daughter of love. In order to achieve the fang town dying to meet their own daughters wishes, he would escape again (this time escape from prison, for he is a lifelong convict price)。 Although fang town ultimately failed to achieve their wishes died, but he was always adhere to the time to complete his irrelevant to fang town - a dead promise… With the course of his life when carefully take care of her as his daughter. I was deeply moved. Corresponding with the dark and ugly social phenomenon, is a heart so kind, selfless; And the noble moral character. In order to make some strangers dont hurt, he should stand and walk again and again risks, even willing to pay a life of their own. You know this is how great courage and strength to pay! All this shows a noble soul!

No amount of money, high position, more power, jean valjean in the in the mind is far less than justice!

After read the complete book, think that the class society is cruel to the poor is rude; Lamenting the social reality of France at that time; Think that people desire cunning evil thoughts; Lamenting over those mundane and ordinary people, in order to against social injustice, and made great contribution, the people full of hope and love.

"Only love can destroy everything in the world, unfortunately," this is the author wants to tell us, although we love jean valjean did not great, but in real life, ordinary love is everywhere. Do you remember when you are frustrated that the warm embrace; When you are thrilled that enthusiastic high-five; When you embarrass anger that understand the vision; When complacency that severe frown… Do you remember the warm language, friendly smile, soft eyes and then gently pat caresses…

The most powerful counterattack is the love of dark! Let love pass, diffusion, with action to change around, the world will likely to slowly become what you want!

In the vast sea of books, I finally found a good book my liking, or even jiang rong, it is "the Wolf totem.

Jack Ive ever read. Londons "love life" of the tenacious struggle of the sick Wolf, I read the sidonians wang lo bo the Wolf brave brave Wolf king, "Wolf totem" is the first I see the writing of this description, the research of coyotes. This work vividly portrays the coyotes movements, the prairie Wolf is a peculiar species, wisdom and brave solidarity, it is the vertical and horizontal grassland powerful Mongolian soldiers teacher. Coyotes taught them all kinds of tactics, lifestyle and pasture breeding. If there is no the prairie Wolf, Im afraid the whole Mongolian will disappear from the world.

Today, after and breadth of Mongolian wolves, freedom through nomadic grassland has a little bit, a little gradually disappear from people in your mind. If it is not the book, once memorable coyotes, will gradually fade in our life, like dust.

"Wolf totem" is a very worthy of a look book, not only wrote a fear of wolves, wrote the beautiful scenery of the Mongolian steppe. Where beauty is like a fairyland, a flock of sheep are eating grass in the lush grass, from time to time, to drink water in the lake. Trees, flowers in full bloom. Say good landscape, trees, flowers, still have to say Mr Or write well!

Book has a very classic places: plot is vivid, kind nature. The author but not where rhetoric pile, but according to your real thoughts, natural go write, very touching. The hero - Beijing educated youth, Chen has experienced many things: he cut the Wolf pups, owned a small Wolf, Wolf had fought, and Wolf also touching, and with his dear little wolves and dogs share of suffering, pain experienced youth nomad "spirit".

Now, read this, you will have one big question mark! Dont ask me, as long as open the book, the question mark will one satisfactory solution!
