The Lunar New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring . Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese solely means year , was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year.

One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very scared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to subdue Nian. 正月初一早晨，人们穿上新衣，这时是小孩子们最开心的时刻因为这时要向爷爷奶奶爸爸妈妈要压岁钱了，收完了压岁钱，就一起出去拜年，到那家串串，到那家走走，拜完之后就在家里等待别人来拜年。

过完春节后的几天更不能闲着了，还要到别的亲戚家这样子来回走动，晚上还要请在村子里的长辈吃饭。初二晚上包好水饺，凌晨四五点钟去给死去的亲人上坟。春节后的几天晚上村里开着路灯，小孩子们都出去放各种礼花。

这种日子一直持续到正月十五，这天必须要吃元宵，晚上全村一起放礼花，各种各样的礼花在天空中呈现出来，给蔚蓝的天空添上了几笔彩色。

春节直到正月十五结束，春节过去之后，天气逐渐变暖，孩子们开始上学，大家又开始为新的一年忙碌起来。
