When the Arctic Ocean freezes over in the autumn, polar bears set off in search of their favorite meals: fatty ringed seals and bearded seals. By the summer, the sea ice begins to melt and break apart. Deprived of access to the tasty seals, polar bears spend the summer fasting. At least, thats whats supposed to happen. As the planet warms, the warmer ice-free season is getting longer and longer. So whats a hungry bear to do?

Scientists once thought that polar bears might survive by supplementing their pinniped diet by turning to terrestrial foods like snow geese, their eggs and caribou.

"Weve had this debate in the literature about whether terrestrial foods are nutritionally relevant to polar bears during the on-land season when the ice has melted."

University of Alberta biologist Nick Pilfold.

"And weve known for a long time, going back to research in the early 70s, even going to back to early explorer logs, that polar bears will consume terrestrial based foods. But the debate was always whether those foods actually add up, energetically." In other words, do these substitutes provide enough nutrition to make up for the lost seals?

To find out, Pilfold and his colleagues estimated the weight lost each day by polar bears in the wilds of western Hudson Bay during the ice-free season, when they could ostensibly be chowing down on terrestrial foods. Then they compared that to the weight lost by bears that are temporarily held in Manitobas Polar Bear Alert Program.

While captive, the bears do not eat. They drop about one kilogram each day. But the wild bears, who had access to the Arctic snack bar, lost the same amount of weight each day. The results are in the journal Physiological and Biochemical Zoology.

"Which is really saying that the terrestrial foods do not have dense enough energy to offset the mass loss. So this idea that bears can just switch from eating sea ice–based food to land food and thats going to help supplement against longer ice-free seasons, that really doesnt show up in the data."

The problem is that polar bears evolved to rely on the marine diet.

"The food on land is protein and carbohydrate based, and the food the polar bears really focus on is fat. Fat is the name of the game for these bears; theyre highly adapted to absorbing that fat into their system and putting it onto their body as body mass, so they can fast on it later on. And the only thing thats going to provide them with that type of fat are marine mammals. And they can only access those marine mammals when theres sea ice."

Adult males can go eight months without food. But younger, sub-adult bears, which are no longer nursing and must hunt, cant last as long without sea ice. So as the Arctic warms, younger polar bears will disproportionately die out. Leaving the species survival in doubt.

In order to maintain ecological balance, we should take some effective measures to protect  animals.We should develop pollution standards to reduce emission of toxic substances,  prevent the killing of some rare animals strictly.  We can also establish a national park as a wild animal protection area. The most important thing is to improve people s knowledge of animal care.

一个星期天的上午，我和爸爸、妈妈正在包饺子，忽然听到一阵“扑扑”的声音，我赶快开门一看，原来阳台上站着一只迷路的小鸽子。它一身灰褐色的羽毛，红红的小嘴，尖尖的爪子，黑黑的眼睛不安地注视着我。我连忙跑到屋里告诉爸爸。爸爸出来把小鸽子逮进屋里，绑在桌子腿上。

我很喜欢这只小鸽子，拿出我最爱吃的麦乳梢、奶油饼干喂它，但小鸽子连看都不看一眼。煮熟了饺子，我把第一个送给小鸽子，它仍然理也不理。我问爸爸：“小鸽子为什么不吃麦乳精、饼于、饺子呢?”爸爸对我说：“鸽子是鸟类，吃粮食的。”哦，原来它吃粮食，我就抓了把小米，义找了个小碗，灌满水，放在小鸽子面前。开始它胆子很小，东张张，西望望，还咕咕地直叫，就是不吃。噢，原来它看见我在旁边，怕生人哩。我连忙躲到了门后，从门缝里愉偷地看着。一会儿，小鸽子见我不在，胆子就大了，正想啄米，弟弟一拍手，小鸽子义不吃了。我连忙把弟弟拉到门后。只见小鸽子用那红红的小尖嘴一口一口把小米吃完，然后看看四周，又美美地喝了两口水。

下午，我和小鸽子玩了好大一会儿。晚上，该睡觉了，我轻轻地抚摩着小鸽子，告诉它：“小鸽子，咱们都该睡觉了，明天放学，我再和你玩。”小鸽子咕咕地叫着，在屋里飞来飞去。我躺在床上想：“可能它想念自己的爸爸、妈妈了吧?”

酣睡中我做了个梦，梦见我变成了一只美丽的小白鸽，和小灰鸽一起自由自在地飞翔在蓝天上……

一阵“咕咕”的叫声把我从梦中惊醒。我睁眼一看，啊!天亮了。我赶忙起来抱起小鸽子。我想，它一定也做了一个同样的梦。我多么喜爱这只小鸽子呀!但我怎么能把它关在自己的屋里，不让它自山地飞翔呢?我双手捧着它，高高举起，说：“飞吧，可爱的小鸽子，自由地飞吧!去找你的爸爸、妈妈吧。”小鸽子张开双翅，飞到了阳台上，围着阳台转了几圈，还“”古口占”地叫粉，好像在向我们全家告别。然后它又张开双翅，飞上了蓝天。我一直目送它降落在不远处房顶上的一群鸽子中间。有只鸽子给它理毛，有只鸽子和它亲嘴。我想，理毛的一定是它的爸爸，亲嘴的一定是它的妈妈。瞧，它们多亲热啊!

Of all the festivals in China, Dragon Boat Festival is my favorite. When the Dragon Boat Festival comes, not only the family will pack the zongzi, but some communities or units will organize the group to carry on the game of zongzi. Many water towns will organize a dragon boat race, which is magnificent and spectacular.

When I was young, my mother told me that the Dragon Boat Festival in the 5th day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar was first to commemorate the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan, which gradually took the day as a holiday. My father told me that Qu Yuan is a Chu state living in the past 2000 years. He is a great poet and patriot and a loyal minister. In order to the people can live a happy life, he dared to point out the king was the wrong thing to do, so the old people loved him. But when the new king came to power, he was unconscious, and did not listen to Qu Yuans advice and claim, and lost an important battle with the state of Qin. The state of Chu was occupied by the state of Qin. After Qu Yuan heard the news, he died in the Miluo river. The local people are afraid that the fish in the river will eat Qu Yuans body, so they can put rice dumplings and other food into the river. After the death of Qu Yuan, the local legend went to the sky on a dragon boat. It was at the beginning of May each year five Dragon Boat Festival, dumplings, dragon boat racing has become an important activity.

In China, people like Dragon Boat Festival very much. Now people in the city are busy with their own work, so they cant sell their zongzi Festival, so they go to various supermarkets to buy. In the supermarket there are many types of dumplings, rice dumplings with bacon, candied dumplings, dumplings and so on, very much the pattern. After the dumplings are cooked in a pot, open the lid of the pot and smell it. It is full of the fragrance of the dumplings in the house, tasting a mouthful, and the sweet taste of the glutinous rice in the full mouth. Besides eating zongzi, people can also watch dragon boat racing. On the river, the dragon boat in front of the leading high, vivid. The whole dragon boat was narrow and long. There was a big drum in front, and one after another sat a lot of strong young men. With the sound of the drums, they paddled neatly on the surface of the water. Every time I pass the Dragon Boat Festival, I can always think of Qu Yuan, think of his slamming and long sword, reciting "Li Sao" in the mouth, walking between the rivers and lakes, his loyalty and perseverance. His literary grace influences the generation of Chinese. If we compare traditional Chinese festivals to a piece of silk with jewels, then the Dragon Boat Festival is a bright pearl on the silk.

Winter is my favourive season,you know?the weather in winter is very cold,and even rain hard and snow,some animals sleep all the winter ,such as snakes,tree leaves have been fell down by the strong wind .I thing the winter is the most beautiful saeson,everywhere is full of snow,and I can make little snowy perpons with my good friends,and we also can play more games with snow,the snow give us so much

happiness,it make me feel relaxed and warm all the winter.

I’m a dog lover， because dogs are tame， friendly and easy to communicate with。 I have kept one in my house， whose name is Chocolate。 She is covered with brown curly hair and looks like a Teddy Bear。 Now we have been living together for two years， so I’m very familiar with her characteristics。 When she is hungry， she often barks loudly。 At that time， I begin to realize that it’s time to feed her。 She is keen on beef and fish。 Sometimes， she also eats some rice。

Every day when I come home， she always jumps up to me happily， with her tail moving。 She seems to be my best friend。 As time goes by， the relationship between us becomes closer and closer。 Therefore， I think her as an important member in my family。 I really have the pleasure of her company。

We went to Yulong mountain this weekend. There were six persons in our group. We gathered together at our school gate at 8:00 on Saturday. We started to climb the mountain at 8:30 and get to the top at 10:00 am. We had lunch at the top of the mountain. After lunch, we arranged some free activities , such as singing, dancing and game playing. We returned at 5:00 pm. In order to have a good time, every member of our group prepared necessities by themself, such as tent, sleeping bag, coat, water, food, and so on. What a happy day!

Winter morning, warm blanket always let me reluctantly. I was reluctant to get up from the bed. The winter morning is so cold!

1、小白兔的毛发洁白无暇，好象是用牛奶洗过澡，摸起来特别舒服、柔滑；红宝石似的眼睛，闪闪发亮，实在是引人注目；它那一双长长的耳朵，竖直并背靠着，似乎是传说中的顺风耳，什么事都瞒不过它；常常惹人发笑的是它那三瓣嘴，总是合在一起，老是张不开；它那时髦的白衣服下还藏着强有力的四肢，蹦跳起来还真是惊人，毛茸茸的尾巴，像软软的小绒球，不小心还找不到呢。

2、我家的小狗小白长得十分可爱，圆乎乎的脑袋上有一对长长的、毛茸茸的大耳朵，它能听到远处极细小的声音；一双水灵灵的大眼睛象一对黑宝石一样闪闪发亮，白色的毛柔软细迷，它的尾巴像一把扫帚经常扫来扫去，十分活泼可爱。

3、我家养了一对可爱的元宝鸡，快8个月了。公鸡一身乌黑油亮的羽毛，大红冠子像一团火；母鸡的毛也是乌黑发亮的，尾巴小小的，走起路来一翘一翘的，可爱极了。

4、我家的小狗是一只活泼，可爱的动物。穿着一身金黄的外衣，毛茸茸的大尾巴，小巧的，像梅花一样的脚，黑珍珠似的眼睛。

5、雪儿有一身雪白雪白的绒毛，仿佛就是从天上掉下来的小天使。在它那圆圆的小脑袋上长着一对灵敏的长型的大耳朵，耳朵里边是淡粉色的，软软薄薄的绒毛。在它那玲珑的小面孔上有一对红宝石般透丽灵活的大眼睛。最特别的要属它的嘴了，它的嘴有三瓣，吃起东西来可快了。雪儿的两条前腿细而短，后腿粗而有力，别看它平时性格很温顺，可是跑起来后腿用力一蹬，身子就像离弦的箭，又像短跑冠军，任你怎麽追也追不上。它的小屁股上挂着一个雪白的小绒球似的小尾巴，向前跳的时候，一翘一翘的，真有趣！

6、它们长着胖乎乎的，一身光滑的羽毛。在阳光的照射下闪闪发亮。火红的毛，好像秋天的枫叶，头上带着一顶皇冠。时不时的就叫一声。那声音是多么响亮啊。而且一叫就是千门万户开。

7、外婆家有一只可爱的大公鸡名叫大芦花，它长得既健壮又漂亮。一身油亮的羽毛犹如披着一件华丽的锦袍，头上鲜红的鸡冠远远望去就像戴了一顶大红帽，一双小黑豆似的眼睛左顾右盼十分有神，它那尖尖的黄嘴巴看上去令人望而生畏，那高高翘起的尾巴如同一把打开的五彩洒金的大扇子，两只金黄的脚走起路来“咯噔咯噔”直响，显得非常有力。()

8、它，长着一身棕白相间的毛，两颗黑珍珠般的眼睛，散发着迷离的光芒，两只耳朵轻轻地垂落在小小的脑袋上，黑黑的鼻子像一颗巧克力豆，非常灵敏，鼻子下长着一张樱桃小嘴。它是谁？对啦，它就是我家的小狗——雪花。

9、圆圆是一只小母狗，它圆滚滚的，全身长满了灰色的卷毛，用手一摸，软软的，滑溜溜的，用手一摸，真像一团可爱的小绒球，可爱极了！

10、八哥全身乌黑，好像穿了一件黑制服，远看，仿佛掉进墨缸里；又好像宋朝时的包拯，铁面无私。

11、仓鼠的样子讨人喜爱。仓鼠家族有许多种呢，金狐、银狐、紫仓、沙鼠……虽然仓鼠都很小，不过身体很灵活，模样乖巧。你看！仓鼠的眼睛很小，就像两颗小黑豆，身子毛茸茸的，象一团毛球，小嘴巴只要一吃东西，就嚼个不停，那是多么的可爱啊，可以把喜欢仓鼠的主人逗得哈哈大笑！

12、我家有一只兔子，它的毛柔嫩得像一团白缎子，又细又密；一双滴溜溜的红宝石般的眼睛总是一动不动的，好像要说些什么似的；虽然不像熊猫一样珍贵，可在我看来，它比熊猫都还要招人喜爱！它十分听话，所以我叫他乖乖。乖乖很可爱，也很聪明。

13、我家有一只小白兔，十分的机灵，他身上的毛，洁白的挑不出一丝杂质，就好像一团浓墨泼上去，也会整个滚落下来，沾不上一星半点。一对小巧玲珑的眼睛里，闪着淡淡的红光，尾巴就像个小毛球，左一摆，右一摇，十分可爱。

14、小球球的全身长满土黄色的皮毛，仿佛穿着一件皮大衣。它的皮毛绒绒的，用手一摸软绵绵的，仿佛一件皮大衣，舒服极了。

15、八哥翅膀的尖端，镶嵌着一个个白点；头上一撮翘着的毛，犹如一个皇冠；它还有一双玛瑙般的眼睛；一张嘴特别尖，是淡黄色的；爪子像一个个小月牙，既十分有力，又很灵活，能牢牢抓住笼子里的木棒；腿又细又长，像芦柴棒似的。

16、小乌龟的身体有茶盖大小，的上浮着深褐色的大壳，大壳上有近似六边形的格子，既像将军身上的铠甲，又像一个棋盘。它的四条腿像小桨一样，在水不停地划动。它长着一双亮晶晶的小眼睛，鼻孔里吐这小气泡，十分讨人喜爱！

17、猫是猫科动物的一种，它的样子有点像狐狸，但本性却不如狐狸狡猾。它的胡子长长的，猫要捉老鼠就不能没有胡子，这胡子要是断了，猫就不能进洞抓老鼠了。猫的毛很软，尾巴也很软，毛茸茸的，一对大而有神的眼睛像黑珍珠似的。

18、说它漂亮它也真漂亮，它那樱桃红的小嘴，看样子甜甜的，看了就喜欢，而且还想亲它一下；说它是我最爱的宝贝它也是，因为它有优点，而且它可爱、漂亮呢！

19、我家养了两只小鸭子，它们的毛黄黄的绒绒的，像两个小黄豆。
