The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent lanterns, fireworks form a

小白兔长得很普通，雪白雪白的毛儿，非常漂亮，要是下雪，动物们一定以为白兔是雪中小精灵。长长的耳朵，像黑宝石的眼睛，还有一张三瓣嘴，宛如听了什么笑话，笑得嘴都裂开了。

我的家乡在富饶，美丽的新疆，这里有许多风景优美、物产丰富的地方如：雄伟的果子沟大桥，辽阔的伊犁大草原，清澈的赛里木湖，辽阔的薰衣草基地，其中我最喜欢火焰山。这里还有许多香甜可口各种各样的水果如：吐鲁番的葡萄，和田的大枣大又红，哈密的瓜，阿克苏的苹果，库尔勒的香梨。

最吸引人的旅游胜地是吐鲁番的火焰山，火焰山连绵起伏，远远望去真像一堵红色的正在燃烧的墙。那里非常热，很少下雪，最热的地方就在火焰山，那里为什么那么热呢？因为火焰山地处吐鲁番的中央，是一个盆地，外面的风吹不进来，里面的热气有散不出去，温度自然就高。到了火焰山一下车，就感到一股巨大的热浪向我涌来，往火焰山脚下走去之间山脚下竖立着一只巨大的金箍棒，原来是一个巨型的温度计，炎热的空气仿佛要把我烤焦了，过了好久我才适应。
