北京周围的山水既有北方的粗犷，又有南方的秀丽，这正是建造园林的好地方。在依山傍水的地方，建一座庙宇，半山腰修一个亭子，湖水中建一座水榭，这些，可极少讲究对称，但色调对比考虑十分周到。山上的亭子要用大红和金黄的彩绘，水榭要灰暗些，庙宇要建成红墙绿瓦，显得庄严、肃穆。
