Christmas is one of the most important celebrations of the year for the western countries. It falls on the twenty- fifth of December and has the same importance as Chinese New Year to people with English backgrounds. The celebration is for the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the son of God in Christianity. Now days Christmas is no longer only celebrated by the Christians, but by most people from all over the world.

On the twenty- fourth of December everyone gets excited for it’s the day before Christmas which is called Christmas Eve. The children are usually sent to bed early and are warned that “Santa Claus will only come and give you a present if you be good.” The younger kids actually believe that Santa will come down the chimney on the sleigh that’s pulled by his reindeers. Food like short bread and beer are prepared for Santa when he comes, however most times parents just eat them. Some children put socks and sacks up for the holding of the presents (that their parents put in).

Rise and shine on Christmas morning! The children are always the first ones to wake up, some even do at four. Present wrappers everywhere! They look into their presents with a big smile on their face and oh dear….I hope no one’s disappointed. I feel sorry for anyone that got pink underwear. Children play while dinner is prepared by the adults. The Christmas dinner are usually eaten together by relatives. The tradition of Christmas pudding and roosters are usually eaten with deserts afterwards. The rest of the day is usually games and fun before the good days all come to an end.

I always feel tired after eight classes a day, so my dream school starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. There are three lessons in the morning and two in the afternoon. 原来是这样子的，上帝到了人间就会变成小狗啊!那么如今每个人家里都有的宠物狗狗，就是上帝的后代。

每个人都会成长，如今已经五年级的我，相比之前那个调皮不懂事的我，现在的我更成熟更稳重，有了很大的进步。

以前的我，上课不仅不认真听讲，有时还故意扰乱课堂秩序，使得好好一节课，全被老师用来整顿纪律，一个知识点都没讲到;下课又和同学打打闹闹，每当这时，楼道里便会充斥着喧闹声，也使我们班的笑脸榜上，永远是空空如也。而我做出的作业，不是缺了字漏了题，就是索性乱写一通，所以成绩也一直在七八十徘徊着。可是现在的我，上课时两眼总是直盯着黑板和老师，决不漏掉任何一个知识点，记满的笔记本常用“打”来计算。下课楼道里不再喧闹，取而代之的是一阵阵清晰的读书声，迎来了久违的宁静。作业本上满是正确答案和大大的红勾。成绩表上一座座“高山”拔地而起，只有往上，没有向下。期末，通过自身的不断努力，终于得到了一个好成绩。

以前的我，做事不是半途而废，就是做得力不从心，没一件事做得好，也因此在班上连一个职位也没有，值日生都没当过，下课放学时最轻松的就是我了。现在，我能做好每一件大事小事、难事易事，对“半途而废”和“力不从心”说“拜拜”。同样是发本子，以前的我总是发了一天也没发完，还有几本甚至张冠李戴了，于是，从此几乎再没碰过本子堆。而现在的我，同样是发本子，没几分钟，就如同一道闪电般精准快速地将每一本本子送到每一个同学手里。

现在的我相比以前的我，真是有了很大的进步，以后的我肯定能够有更大的进步。

小屋的窗子是朝西开的，我便有机会尽情地欣赏那迷人的夕照了。

透过窗子向下看，是一排整齐的红砖瓦房。砖瓦房后面立着一排挺拔的钻天杨。每临近黄昏时，太阳顺着这排杨树缓缓滑落下去，便出现了如诗的夕照。

2020年的春天，不似以往的祥和喜乐，而是挟着阴霾呼啸而来。病毒肆虐，仿佛带着不可阻挡的气势，从江城蔓延而出，不到半月，便席卷整片华夏大地。

但一旦放下手机电视，却又是另一番景象——父母长辈们对爆发扩散的疫情置若罔闻，固执地坚持自己的见解。终于，争吵爆发了。“戴口罩戴口罩，你看现在有几个人戴口罩?!那什么疫情根本就不会传到这，一天天净瞎操心……”父母的指责化作一颗颗子弹射入我的心中，面对他们暴怒的面孔，我委屈着，却无力反驳。什么时候，关心也是错呢?我看着电视上播放的喜剧小品，那些引人发笑的情节仿佛在讽刺着我;窗外，明明是一片晴朗，可我却觉得那浓重的阴霾萦绕在我身旁。

家中的氛围冷得好像凝固了一般，阴霾浓得仿佛化不开。我们僵持着，时间却和往常一样走着跑着，渐渐地，生活被各项防疫工作填充着：母亲原本打算去超市购物，刚到门口却因没带口罩被拦了下来，无奈只能回家取口罩;父亲出门回家发现路口被封，绕了一圈被工作人员要求测过体温后才肯放行，家中备着的口罩即将用完，父母遍寻各家药店却买不到一个口罩……原本固执坚持的父母，正逐步意识到口罩与防护的重要性，而那环绕的阴霾，似乎淡去了些许。

那日，我坐在桌前温习功课。母亲推开门，走了进来。见我抬头，她张开嘴，好似要说些什么，却又闭上了。她迟疑了一会儿，带着些歉意，别扭地说着：“这几天外面都在防疫抗疫，你上次说的，我们会注意戴口罩的……嗯……饭好了，出来吃饭吧。”“好!”我笑着应了，心忽地轻了下来，我望向窗外，好像看见阴霾正在消散，蔚蓝的天空中，显现出的，是一片春和日丽。

As we all know, reading has a lot of benefit. It can open up our eyes because books are full of knowledge, and it makes us wiser and richer in life. I also read story books and novels in my spare time which make me relaxed and happy. I seldom read e-books because theyre bad for eyes. On weekends, I usually spend a whole afternoon reading in the library. And I also read for about half an hour before going to bed every night.

在工厂排出的浓烟里，我们不知道浓烟是污染大气的吗?科学家发现，至少有100种大气污染物对环境产生极大危害，直接影响人们的健康。

I understand your well-respected college offers a number of places to overseas students every year, and I am writing to enquire about the application procedure.

I am at present a student at Mary High School, Hong Kong, where I have been studying for the past five years. I passed the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination last year with distinctions in English and History, and credits in Economics and English Literature. My advanced-level subjects are History, Economics and English Literature. In addition to these subjects, "Use of English" is also a compulsory subject because a pass in English is a minimum requirement for admission to most faculties of the University of Hong Kong.

Apart from academic work, I have been actively involved in extra-curricular activities. I am Chairman of the English Club and I have represented my school in many inter-school contests.

On the advice of my friends, I have decided to further my studies in England because I wish to widen my horizons and benefit from the scholarly heritage of your country.

I wish to continue to study the above-mentioned subjects at your college in the 2006/7 academic year before I sit the Advanced-level Examinations in England.

“加油，加油”一股强烈的加油声在实心球场响起。运动员个个壮硕，扔出的球也不在话下，八米，九米，甚至还有十米多的，但对于我班的运动员，就是一连的八米多，眼看九米多的运动员多了起来，同学们也是没耽搁，愣是场外“指导”起来：你那身体要往后仰一些，要再多用点力。再次上场，眼里多了一份突破自己

虽未拔得头筹，但同伴的鼓励使他不断实现自我突破，看到成功的希望。

战胜自己

1500米是耐力赛，一没耐力跑下去，你就输了。这不，我们班的两个女运动员就参与了比赛。开始了，跑前几圈，大家速度都是非常匀称，以免耗费过多的体力，跑第四圈时，大家开始加速，再看我们班的两个运动员，她们的脸上已沁满了汗珠，脸色也变得通红，有了明显的吃力，速度也降了下来，渐渐了就被甩到后面。可她们却没停下来，依旧艰难地向前跑去，最终冲过了终点。

The smartphone has been gaining a great popularity, becoming a toxic compulsion. It has invaded our lives and occupied all our interstitial time. It is so commonly seen that the smartphone addicts attend to their phone, ignoring everything. Even meeting with friends, they often pull out the phone in order to take a photo, check a message or even play with a game. Seeming connected with the whole world, they have actually fiddled the conversation and done harm to the relationship.

Before I always dont like reading, every time my mother told me to read a book I was perfunctory, the teacher told me to read that is compelling.clients, classmate called me to read more goofing off. But this summer vacation I began to like reading books.

这个暑假我“荣幸”的被老师选了当图书管理员，我也只有硬着头皮去冲锋了。来到图书馆，哇!好多读书，好漂亮，在这里东转西转，大家都在看书，我也不好意思，就拿了一本书，坐上了椅子，在这里看书真舒服，这个期间妈妈居然来巡视了，那时没人来，我也只好拿着一本《格列佛游记》装样子，妈妈一看高兴地说：“儿子真乖：”我想：还不是给你装样子。看着看着突然我觉得书的内容哈精彩，真吸引人眼球，我看了下去，更精彩了，我第一次觉得书这么好看，看着看着，就看入迷了。更妙的是一天同学们正在讨论《格列佛游记》有的人茫然不知，而我滔滔不绝地讲起，大家投来羡慕的目光，真让人想说这句名言“开卷有益”。

伟人说过“书是人类进步的阶梯”我今天就踏上了这个阶梯，我在其中收获了快乐，我能开着它越走越远，越走越高。
