1952年，从12月5日到12月8日的短短四天里，“伦敦雾霾事件”死亡人数高达4000人。而在12月9日后由于天气变化，毒雾逐渐消散，但在此后的两个月内，有近8000人因为雾霾事件死于呼吸系统疾病!可见雾霾的危害性有多大。好多人采取了防范措施，比如戴口罩;少开车等等。
