Dropout rates have been rising in rural areas—partly for economic reasons but also because of the stultifying atmosphere of their classrooms. Exam pressures frequently lead to suicides. According to a survey last year among senior secondary-school students and university freshmen in one area, more than 50% had considered killing themselves.

Several other countries in East Asia, including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, are grappling with similar problems. But the implications of Chinas reform efforts are particularly profound. Chinas traditional education methods are ideally suited to a political culture that requires citizens to submit blindly to authority. By encouraging students to question their teachers and regard them as equals (even official literature now talks of fostering a “democratic” atmosphere in classrooms), China could be ushering in a new kind of relationship between the rulers and the ruled.

I like the winter holiday very much. Though its very short,I can enjoy the Spring Festival. I can watch cartoon every day. I neednt go to school frepuently. Today, i opened my free forum and i was very happy because i could do a lot of things there.I decided to upgrade my forum and make it interesting. then i will make it grow up and at the same time, i can write down what i want to say there.I will be very happy.

My winter holiday is very dull. I stay at home for most of time. Sometimes I visit my friends and play basketball with them. Sometimes we go shopping.

One day, we go to the KFC. We have hamburgers, chicken coke and French fries. We have sore throats. We go home and have a rest. Then we feel better. We go and play computer games! How mad we are!

我踩下了油门，车发动啦，我的心情激动不已可惜到了转弯我却不行啦!方向盘一下子不停了使唤，“吱——”爸爸一脚踩住了刹车，爸爸又开始细心地教我开车。不一会儿我便学会啦!在公园兜了几圈，心满意足地将这辆红色“宝马”没门式“跑车”归还了管理员。

这回兜风可真是路径波折，下回再来我要开“法拉力”，希望爸爸还可以爽快地答应。
