Christmas is one of the most important celebrations of the year for the western countries. It falls on the twenty- fifth of December and has the same importance as Chinese New Year to people with English backgrounds. The celebration is for the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the son of God in Christianity. Now days Christmas is no longer only celebrated by the Christians, but by most people from all over the world.

On the twenty- fourth of December everyone gets excited for it’s the day before Christmas which is called Christmas Eve. The children are usually sent to bed early and are warned that “Santa Claus will only come and give you a present if you be good.” The younger kids actually believe that Santa will come down the chimney on the sleigh that’s pulled by his reindeers. Food like short bread and beer are prepared for Santa when he comes, however most times parents just eat them. Some children put socks and sacks up for the holding of the presents (that their parents put in).

Rise and shine on Christmas morning! The children are always the first ones to wake up, some even do at four. Present wrappers everywhere! They look into their presents with a big smile on their face and oh dear….I hope no one’s disappointed. I feel sorry for anyone that got pink underwear. Children play while dinner is prepared by the adults. The Christmas dinner are usually eaten together by relatives. Christmas DayChristmas Day falls on the twenty-fifth of December. It is a very happy day for many boys and girls . Before the term ends in some schools , the children act a nativity① or “birth” play, showing how Jesus② was born in a stable③。

On the twenty-fourth of December, all children are very excited. Usually they are sent to bed early so that their parents can get the presents ready. the younger children think that Father Christmas will come down the chimney or fireplace , so they hang up a sock for him to put presents in. the GREedy ones even hang up a pillow-case④ or a sack⑤ to try to get more presents. Later that night, Father or Mother will put presents in the sock, and leave others at the side of the bed. On Christmas morning, the children wake up very early. Some even turn on the light at two oclock, and most of them are awake by six oclock although it is not light in England for another hour or two at this time of the year.Children look for their presents , and the young ones play while the dinner is prepared. At about one oclock in the afternoon, the Christmas dinner is brought in . the turkey or chicken is quickly eaten . Children search in their Christmas pudding for new coins which are hidden in it . the rest of the day is full of games and eating until the happiest of all Christmas hollidays comes to an end.

Christmas Day is on December 25th, though it originated in the western

country, now it is popular around the world. In China, people will spend that

day happily, they will eat apples on Christmas Eve, the children will put the

socks so that they could get the presents from Santa Claus. When I went to

college, I had an unforgettable memory about my first Christmas Day.

As my major is English, I have many foreign teachers, so that I could have

access to the local culture from them. Christmas Day is a big day for them, when

the day came, they asked us to spend the day with them, because most of them

left home and did not have families around. My classmates and I went to the

foreign teacher’s home at that day, we brought some presents, when we arrived at

his house, we found a beautiful tree with shinning lights. My teachers taught us

how to cook all the cookies, we were having such great fun. I made the cookies

with many favors. We talked happily and sung Christmas songs.

I learned how the foreign people spend their big day, it was such

unforgettable for me.

Our English teacher, Mrs Wang, is about forty years old. She always wears a pair of glasses. She is very strict with us. When we make a mistake, she often makes us stand up. But we hear that her home is far from our school. Every morning she has to walk to school for forty minutes. And she is never late. Then we come to see that Mrs Wang loves us dearly. She teaches us so carefully. In fact, she is a good teacher.

I am looking forward to the arrival of Christmas, December 25, is the biggest holiday of the year - western countries Christmas. The festival started as christians commemorate the birth of Jesus, the later gradually evolved into a similar to the Spring Festival in China as a full of festival. Although some of the Chinese people are used to celebrate Christmas, but also some people always cannot accept, a filed for Christmas, they are considered to be "arty", "boring", even "...... ". In fact this is just the product of different cultures, like our Spring Festivals sphere of influence is also more and more big.

To tell the truth, regardless of Chinas traditional festivals and foreign festivals, since it is the holidays, need is an atmosphere, as long as you enjoy playing, why want to so much? Chinese people celebrate Christmas, both can be happy, and embodies the cultural exchanges between east and west, it is a very good thing. Im looking forward to and everybody had a good Christmas this year, looking forward to the arrival of Santa Claus, in his sleigh must be filled with all kinds of toys and gifts......

我在期盼着圣诞节的到来，每年的12月25日，是西方国家一年中最盛大的节日——圣诞节了。这个节日最初只是基督教徒纪念耶稣诞生的日子，后来逐渐演变成了类似我国春节那样的一个全性的节日。虽然一些中国人早已习惯过圣诞节，但还有些人总也无法接受，一提起过圣诞节，它们就认为是 “附庸风雅”、“无聊至极”，甚至是“崇洋媚外”。其实这只是不同文化的产物，就像是我们的春节的影响范围也在越来越大呢。

说实在的，不论中国传统节日还是外国的节日，既然是过节，要的就是一个气氛，只要大家玩的尽兴就好，又何必想那么多呢?中国人过圣诞节，既能获得快乐，又体现了东西方文化的交流，是件非常好的事。我期待着和大家一起过好今年的圣诞节，期待着圣诞老人的到来，他的雪橇里一定装满了各种玩具和礼物……
