The Origin of Halloween

While there are many versions of the origins and old customs of Halloween, some remain consistent by all accounts. Different cultures view Holloween somewhat differently but traditional Halloween practices remain the same.

The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.

Talk of a new Silk Road may be intended to evoke romantic, non-threatening images of desert caravans, ancient ships and trade in exotic commodities. But China’s grand plan for a network of railways, highways, pipelines and ports across central Asia, and around Southeast Asia is generating anxiety in New Delhi.

With the 3,488km border between the two Asian neighbours still a matter of formal dispute, Indian strategic policy analysts are divided on whether China’s new Silk Road project is a strategic and economic threat to their country — or an opportunity. Many see the project — which the Chinese have called One Belt, One Road (OBOR) — as something that must be carefully navigated, as Beijing develops large projects in countries that India considers part of its natural sphere of influence. However, New Delhi lacks the financial power to offer a credible alternative.

“The Indian government is very careful about the way it handles the China rhetoric, and it isn’t ready to come out arms swinging against OBOR, but it is sitting with its arms folded making it very clear that it will not endorse the project if it doesn’t like the way it was put together as a Chinese fait accompli,” says Shashank Joshi, a senior research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, a British defence and security think-tank.

“They cannot be seen to be outwardly hostile to a scheme which many smaller Asian neighbours view as a good opportunity for large flows of Chinese capital that India cannot deliver,” he says.

Brahma Chellaney, professor of strategic studies at New Delhi’s Centre for Policy Research, sees China’s new Silk Road initiative as a repackaging — in more palatable terms — of China’s so-called “string of pearls” strategy, which India views as an attempt to strategically encircle it.

The “string of pearls” theory argues that Chinese investment in ports in south Asia is a precursor to developing overseas naval bases. China has, for example, already built a major port at Hambantota in Sri Lanka, which overlooks important shipping lanes that carry much of the world’s oil trade, and which India views as strategically important for its own defence.

The visit of Chinese submarines at the Colombo port in 2014 raised fears that the facility’s purpose is not economic but military. Chinese investment is also planned for ports in Bangladesh and Myanmar, raising concerns that they may serve a dual purpose.

“The new Silk Road is just a nice new name for the strategy they’ve been pursuing,” says Mr Chellaney. “They’ve wrapped that strategy in more benign terms. The Chinese dream is pre-eminence in Asia, and this goes to the heart of that dream.”

“It’s not just a trade initiative,” he says. “What China is doing has a strategic element that is increasingly obvious.”

India is most exercised about plans for a $$46bn economic corridor linking China and Pakistan, India’s nuclear-armed neighbour and rival. That blueprint envisions goods travelling from China’s western region to Pakistan’s Gwadar, a once sleepy Arabian Sea port now run by the China Overseas Port Holding Company. It is considered a staging point between central Asia and the Gulf.

Part of the corridor will pass through Pakistan-held Kashmir, a territory that is still the subject of a decades-old, unresolved dispute between India and Pakistan. Indian analysts say that acceptance of the corridor would effectively acknowledge Pakistan’s rights over the territory now under its control, while India’s own claims over Kashmir have yet to be resolved — something New Delhi considers unacceptable. “This is a large scale project bringing People’s Liberation Army personnel [said to be guarding some project locations] right into the heart of what India considers to be occupied territory,” Mr Joshi says.

At a recent conference in Gwadar, Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Raheel Sharif, accused India of deliberately attempting to undermine the project. “India, our neighbour, has openly challenged this development initiative,” he said. “We will not allow anyone to create impediments or turbulence in any parts of Pakistan.”

But wary as India may be of Chinese ambitions, analysts say New Delhi needs to take a measured approach to the new Silk Road, and embrace individual components.

India is already a member of the Chinese-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, which will finance much of the infrastructure, potentially giving it some leverage over how the plan unfolds.

“For every belt they create, and every road that we create, can we create a slip road that connects Indian opportunities to the larger global market rather than reject it outright?” asks Samir Saran, of the Observer Research Foundation. “Can we?…?use their institutions to our own advantage?”

In current days , with the development of society and economic ,series of social problems are appeared. In order to analyze this phenomenon three universities in Beijing jointly distribute an opinion poll about “Should you help the old when he/she falls down on the street?”.

From the result of this survey, we know that 29.6 percent of the people are surveyed think that whether they help the old or not will according to the circumstance. The people who will help the old are the most ,they accounted for 64.8 percent of them. And also have 8.3 percent hold the view that the old shouldn’t be help.

Why don’t they help the old falls down on the street? 5.3 percent of them are lack of medical knowledge. And 7.2 percent of them think that it’s not related to them. But the major, 87.4 percent of them are afraid of getting themselves into trouble.

[我们应该做最好高中英语日记

Last week, my English teacher gave us a task, she asked us to form a small

group, each group was made up of five students, the groups need to do a

research, it is about how much people know about foreign country. In my group,

there are three girls and two boys, at first, we did not know what to do, then I

suggested our group take the cooperated work. As I and the girl are good at

writing paper, so the two of us decided to design the questions, and the other

three students are so active, so they like to ask people the questions. The

research went go so well, we finished it in two days, thanks to the teamwork, we

did well on the task. The teacher praised my group, I have learned the

importance of cooperation, since then, I will considerate other people’s

feelings.

人生往往是一场马拉松比赛，从第一声啼哭开始，我们就开始了比赛。至于最后的结果，完全要靠自己。

小学一年级开始，就已经向我们这些选手们敲响了警钟。如果不努力便会被其他选手超越。没有永恒的冠军，只有不断地超越。在每一次期中考试，期末考试前，我们都要拼命的复习，这就像是一名军人一样。一名合格，优秀的军人，必须要有一把好枪，精准度要高。“一把好枪”就是平时积累，学习中，思考中得到的结果与知识;有一把好枪也不够，还要结合一名军人的反应能力，思维敏捷，判断能力高于一身，这些就是我们的运用能力。

初中又是一次新的起点。现在，我们不能像小学那样，回家之后就看电视，到晚上看尽兴了，看够了，才写作业，在强烈的白帜灯下，不仅伤害身体，还会导致自己的学习成绩下降。

我们应该一回家就写家庭作业，作业完成后就复习一下今天所学的，预习一下明天该上的课，这样才能提高我们的成绩，让我们变得更加优秀，争取把自己最优秀，最耀眼的一面展示给大家看。

一个新的起点，蕴含着一个新的道理。牛顿的起点是苹果将头砸一下，发现了地心引力;爱迪生在他母亲做手术时，用镜子将灯光发明了灯泡。

起点往往是低的，一个成功的人，不论现在站的的多高，看的多远，但昨天都是普通地。我还是相信那句话：没有永恒的冠军，只有不断的超越。

The people I respect the most is my father. He is a doctor. He always busy

with work. Since I can remember, he never spent a whole weekend to stay with me.

He goes to the hospital very early before I get up, and comes back home after I

sleep. But I doesn’t matter at all, he is hero to me. He devotes almost all the

time to his patients, many lives are saved. He always said, a man should have

dignity, integrity, honor, and most of all, be helpful to others. This affected

me deeply, so I work hard so that someday I could be the man like my father.

在微甜的风吹往热带半岛的山林之际，象征春天的鸟鸣声从树缝中嘤嘤涌出，在太阳的影子下，一只高挂树梢的、小小的鸟巢，正聚集了几只准备初展翅的五色鸟。

纵身一跃，翱翔或是坠落，到底还是必须踏出这一步。

从我们还在依赖着棒棒糖的那个年纪，就尝试用小小的手短短的脚，荡出一摆又一摆童年的稚笑；甚至是在秋千荡向最高点时，还会试图伸出同样短短的小手，想称那几秒之间，攫取几片菩提树幼绿的叶——即使我们从没有成功过，而远在湛蓝苍芎下的几片绿色的梦，终究只是太奢侈的幻想，但至少我们还有勇气伸出手，至少我们尽力尝试了。

等到我们成长叛逆的年纪，在懂得失败之后，我们尝试的勇气似乎随着那童年稚嫩的笑声，一起留在回忆里，像一只生锈的时钟，不再往前走的时候，只剩下支离破碎的零件，轻轻一摸，残缺的尸体就乘风而去。不着痕迹的瓦解。而我们是在什么时候开始不再去尝试了呢？我们又为什么不再尝试了呢？是害怕挑战还是害怕失败，或是两者皆然？其实我们心里都清楚的明白，尝试没有什么大不了的，无论是挫折、逆境或是平凡顺遂的生活，所有前进的起点就是尝试，当我们尝试踏下了第一个脚印时，才有第二步的可能，也才有了和原点的距离。

我想我害怕的不是尝试之后的失败，而是缺少了尝试的勇气。

所以我特别喜欢看海，春夏秋冬的海，清晨亭午黄昏入夜之后的海，吸引我的不是美得令人屏息的沿海风景，而是那一波又一波坚毅不拔的浪，和拍打之后破碎的海水画下的浪花。每一次的浪对我来说就像一次的尝试，在海水扬起的同时，谁也不知道向下冲击的是一片坚硬的岩石或是柔软的砂子，是炙热的地面或是下过雨后潮湿的沼泽，但它们仍然一波波不停的打，好似有一种深沉的、坚毅的源源不绝的动力，从鼻息之间猛烈地灌入我的喉咙，直到我全身窜遍一股强烈的勇气，去尝试。

树梢上的幼鸟在我眼帘上展翅，乘着这一波思绪的风旅行去了，朝着更多更多等着挑战、等着尝试的路远行，我满足的起身，伴着一袋比勇气更多的，尝试的决心。

According to the variety of social background, personal experience and

personal emotion, differernt people have different opinions towards things.

Thus, there is no doubt that generation gap exists everywhere. We always find

that there are big differences between us and the old generation. We always

regard the old are outdated, while they think us are crazy. They can’t bear the

dress we like, the fashion we pursue or even our childish thinking. Instead, we

could put up with their standpat thingking and their “feudal rulers”. Thus, the

generation gap becomes more and more obvious and serious. However, why don’t we

realize that opinions can be changed, while people can’t. So, we can think in an

other way, learn to accept. It is certain that we can narrow the generation gap

to live a more harmonious life.

有人说秋天是凄冷的；有人说秋天是悲伤的；我认为秋天是热情的。

告别了火热的夏季，我们迎来了热情的秋天，本来在夏天中绿意葱葱的树叶，如今已经变成了火红一片，远看就像一颗正在燃烧的火树。每当有一片落叶落下，就会认为可能有一团火掉下来了，一不小心便会被烧着，直到落下来才发现，原来是一片火红的热情的枫叶。

枫叶一片一片的落下，一条普通的不能再普通的道路上便是金红一片了，走在上面，就像走在了金色大道上，脚下很软，像踩在绵上一样，似乎连跌倒也无法受伤一样。

走在公园的路上，一堆堆五色的菊花，一朵接着一朵，都开满了花，赶趟似的。红的像火，粉的像霞，白的像雪，紫的像紫宝石……来到这里，淡淡的香味漫过了整个人间，满满的都是菊花的芳香。

果园里，果实饱满，散发迷人的果香，令人陶醉。倘若不摘几个尝一尝，就不能压制住内心的贪心。摘下一个，洗了洗，一咬，满嘴果香，整个味蕾似乎都被他给征服了，再看一眼果肉，满满的都是果肉果汁。秋天以它独特的果香热情迎接着每一个来到秋天的人。

秋天是热情的，是令人向往的。

It has been admitted that 22 is the important point for many young people,

because they graduate from college and go to the job market. Then 25 is believed

to be the marriage age for the parents, as they start to worry about their

children’s future life and wish they get married as soon as possible. Before the

coming of 30, girls are in their best situation for the old idea.

It is an

outdated thought, because people should be limited by their ages. It is never

too late to get restart. An airline stewardess got fired because she was almost

30, then she decided to started her business by selling products online. Now she

is a successful businesswoman and she enjoys her career. So never listen to the

words that limits your movement, just do it.
