Sense and Sensibility was the first Jane Austen published. Though she initially called it Elinor and Marianne, Austen jettisoned both the title and the epistolary mode in which it was originally written, but kept the essential theme: the necessity of finding a workable middle ground between passion and reason. The story revolves around the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne. Whereas the former is a sensible, rational creature, her younger sister is wildly romantic--a characteristic that offers Austen plenty of scope for both satire and compassion. Commenting on Edward Ferrars, a potential suitor for Elinors hand, Marianne admits that while she "loves him tenderly," she finds him disappointing as a possible lover for her sister.

Soon however, Marianne meets a man who measures up to her ideal: Mr. Willoughby, a new neighbor. So swept away by passion is Marianne that her behavior begins to border on the scandalous. Then Willoughby abandons her; meanwhile, Elinors growing affection for Edward suffers a check when he admits he is secretly engaged to a childhood sweetheart. How each of the sisters reacts to their romantic misfortunes, and the lessons they draw before coming finally to the requisite happy ending forms the heart of the novel. Though Mariannes disregard for social conventions and willingness to consider the world well-lost for love may appeal to modern readers, it is Elinor whom Austen herself most evidently admired; a truly happy marriage, she shows us, exists only where sense and sensibility meet and mix in proper measure.

Guy de Maupassant(18501893), one of the greatest critical realist writers in the world, is considered as one of three kings of world short story。 Maupassant created six novels and 359 medium forms during his brief lifetime, engendering a momentous effect on the later literature. And it’s his maiden work, Suet Ball that won him world-wide prestige.

In1870, with the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War, the real-based story Suet Ball happened. The heroine of the story is a humble harlot called Suet Ball. With a group of French residents of Rouen, recently occupied by the Prussian army, the 11 travelers are on their way fleeing to Le Havre in a stagecoach. In virtue of the appalling weather, the stagecoach moves rather slowly and has just covered a few miles by midday. Initially, those occupants snub Suet Ball whereas their attitudes alters with the emergence of a basket filled with scrumptious food and she caters for those hungry travelers selflessly.

The carriage doesn’t stop until they blunders into a Prussian-held territory called T?tes. A Prussian officer detains the coach with no definite reasons. In the next two days, the occupants wait with barely concealed impatience and eventually Suet Ball tells that they will be detained perpetually unless she approves of sleeping with the officer. Out of her patriotism, Suet Ball gives him a point-blank refusal. As it should be, those travelers behave furiously to the officer"s arrogance while during the next two days, they exemplify logic and morality in diverse ways to convince Suet Ball of its validity. What a kind-hearted girl! Finally Suet Ball gives up and sacrifices her body for everyone’s freedom.

The next morning, they are permitted to leave. But those "representatives of Virtue" totally neglect Suet Ball, casting scathing sights on the poor young woman while even disdaining talking to her and rejecting sharing their food with her in the same way that she did at the beginning. From their perspectives, Suet Ball turns out to be no more utilizable and should be condemned for her ashamed conduct. As the stagecoach travels deeper into the night, she seethes with rage against those hypocrites, and ultimately weeps for her lost dignity.

In this story, Maupassant highlighted the intense comparison between Suet Ball and the so-called nobles. Rapacity, hypocrisy, sexuality and nobility intertwine in the spotlight, eulogizing the underclass’ patriotism and lampooning the sham of the aristocracy. Maupassant portrays the inhabitants of the stagecoach in varied disparaging ways. The most luminous character belongs to the two nuns. At first they are portrayed as tranquil and subservient to Lord and demonstrate their fiery patriotic desire to dedicate to their motherland rather than a sordid intention like the other passengers: the nuns profess to haste to a military hospital to heal the wounded French soldiers, hence presenting the argument towards instigating Suet Ball to abandon her resistance. How absurd it is! Nuns are supposed to take strait vows and treat others benevolently. They fill Suet Ball"s head with arguments, arguing that it is not morally wrong to sleep with the officer in order to let the travelers leave, and that the longer she waits, the more young French soldiers will die as the nuns are not there to look after them. Superficially, they claim that it is for the good of the country but indeed they’re just taking advantage of her. Suet Ball"s resistance to the officer"s sexual advances again indicate her patriotism. Cruel wars have stripped all the external stuffs. In contrast to all of these is Suet Ball, a prostitute, revealed to be the most fiercely patriotic, virtuous, and morally admirable character, which Maupassant contrasts with the hypocrisy and snobbery of the others.

It is arguably Maupassant’s most famous short story. The carriage constitutes a microcosm of French society as a whole. And the narrative techniques of this story are rather sophisticated and carefully conceived. On balance, a real noble person like Suet Ball can’t be judged by the appearance or the occupation, his/ her moral quality will glitter when confronting the real ordeal. Consequently, I deem that Suet Ball is worth reading lingeringly, savoring every word.

初中时我们一边学人体生理卫生,一边看《古惑仔》研究《满清十大酷刑》;

Thoughts or reflections on reading Wuthering Heights

The book was written by Emily Bronte, it published in 1847.But at that time, it seemed to hold little promise, selling very poorly and receiving only a few mixed reviews. I found this in our school library, I chose this book because the title attracted me. The book is structured around two parallel love stories, the first half of the novel centering on the love between Catherine and Heathcliff, while the less dramatic second half features the developing love between young Catherine and Hareton. In contrast to the first, the latter tale ends happily, restoring peace and order to Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. In the story, the two houses, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, represent opposing worlds and values.

I spent twenty days reading this book. After reading this book, I felt for Heathcliff at first. Heathcliff begins his life as a homeless orphan on the streets of Liverpool, and then he tyrannized by Hindley Earnshaw. But he becomes a villain when he acquires power and returns to Wuthering Heights with money and the trappings of a gentleman. His malevolence proves so great and long—lasting. As he himself points out, his abuse of Isabella—his wife is purely sadistic, as he amuses himself by seeing how much abuse she can take and still come cringing back for more.

Catherine represents wild nature, in both her high, lively spirits and her occasional cruelty. She loves Heathcliff so intensely that she claims they are the same person. However, her actions are driven in part by her social ambitions, which initially are awakened during her first stay at the Lintons, and which eventually compel her to marry Edgar. Catherine is free—spirited, beautiful, spoiled, and often arrogant, she is given to fits of temper, and she is torn between her both of the men who love her. The location of her coffin symbolizes the conflict that tears apart her short life. She is buried in a corner of the Kirkyard. In contrast to Catherine, Isabella Linton—Catherine’s sister—in—law represents culture and civilization, both in her refinement and in her weakness. Ultimately, she ruins her life by falling in love with Heathcliff. He never returns her feelings and treats her as a meretool in his quest for revenge on the Linton family.

Just as Isabella Linton serves as Catherine’s foil, Edgar Linton serves as Heathcliff’s. Edgar grows into a tender, constant, but cowardly man. He is almost the ideal gentleman. However, this full assortment of gentlemanly characteristics, along with his civilized virtues, proves useless in Edgar’s clashes with his foil. He sees his wife obviously in love with another man but unable to do anything to rectify the situation. Heathcliff, who gains power over his wife, sister , and daughter.

The whole story make people’s mood heavy. Fortunately, the end is happy.

The author Emily Bronte lived an eccentric, closely guarded life. She was born in 1818, two years after Charlotte—the author of Jane Eyre and a year and a half before her sister Anne, who also became an author. Her father worked as a church rector, and her aunt, who raised the Bronte children after their mother died, was deeply religious. Emily Bronte did not take to her aunt’s Christian fervor, the character of Joseph, a caricature of an evangelical, may have been inspired by her aunt’s religiosity. The Brontes lived in Haworth, a Yorkshire village in the midst of the moors. These wild, desolate expanses—later the setting of Wuthering Heights—made up the Brontes daily environment, and Emily lived among them her entire life. She died in 1848, at the age of thirty.

I like this book because it rest on the unforgettable characters. Wuthering Heights is based partly on the Gothic tradition, a style of literature that featured supernatural encounters, crumbling ruins, moonless nights, and grotesque imagery, seeking to create effects of mystery and fear. I would like to recommend this book to other readers.

One must apply one’s reason to everything earning to obey to hold our tongue to help to be good to give in. Life has the great power to change us to adapt it. In addition Anne started afresh and tried to get to the bottom of it all. As she said we should examine the whole matter carefully ourselves and find out what is true and what is exaggerated. In our daily life we often meet arguments with parents. We can stick to the Anne’s principle. If parents are wrong we shall try first of all to make them alter their ideas and if we don’t succeed we shall stick to our own opinions and judgement. Although she lived in a small room she still had a brightful heart. She believed that it was spiring within her she felt that spring was awaking she felt it in her whole body and soul. And in the book she wrote and thought much of the time about things which very sensitive. For example she described a lot about the affair with Peter. It’s normal for a teenager. I think parents should read this book so they can regard this question correctly.

Anne said “One certainly could not call us rich now but all my hopes are pinned on after the war.” Now we are in the peaceful world hope is full of our life. So there is no reason putting off achieving dreams we should treasure everyone everything every moment that we have.

Love seems to be the perpetual theme all over the world. But actually what is love? For most girls in 20s, love may mean everything to them. They seek for love bravely no matter what difficulties they may face. In their eyes, love is pure or even holy. However, those are just an ideal situation, n real life; people tend to find a balance between love and property.

Pride and prejudice is Austin’s great work. Through the discussion of the different marriages and love, the writer demonstrates her concept about love and marriage: love and marriage is closely associated with property and society, however, love and marriage can not only be decided by the property and social status. An ideal marriage should be based on mutual affection, respect and the same interest. She rejects the marriage based only on wealth.

Different people have different ideas upon marriage. By the description and discussion of the four marriages in the novel, we can see that Austen fully expresses her views on love and marriage. Only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire.

The marriage based on social position and money can’t bring happiness in life. Aimless marriage and love are unpractical.

Everything goes wrong for poor couples. Marriage based on wealth is not a fault. At least, it can offer us a better condition of life. Property is not everything in the life but without it, we can do nothing. This is called reality. But if you only married for wealth, you sell your liberty. The rest of your life might be miserable, and your marriage will filled with endless bitterness.

Everyone should have a belief in his heart about life, beauty, and noble humanity. This is what Gump told me, who is a true man full of courage ,love, and sincerity in my mind.

Life is a box of chocolate and we can never know what it is inside before we open it. Just as Mrs Forrest put it, everyone has a destiny. As for Gump, he was thought to be a perfect fool since he was young. While, after watching the movie, I can not help but admire this young guy because of his braveness to deal with obstacles, his consistence to love and his devotion to friendship. Stupid he might seem to be, Gump gave a meaningful lesson to us who are what called more intelligent people.

Born as a boy with natural defects, Gump eventually accomplished plenty of achievements which we ordinary people can not approach. With a plain thought and natural optimism, Gump just did what he was good at, running as fast as he could, struggling toughly against destiny with all the facilities he had been given. To our surprise, he eventually graduated from college, got a military medal, became one of the best pingpong players around America and even owned a huge shrimp company. Astonishing and unbelievable as it was, those miracles did happen sometimes. Who says that great success only belongs to those

with super talents? In my opinion, those who endeavor to make their best also deserve applause and respect. Let us run towards the new sun and embrace everyday with hope and we can make a difference.

To tell the truth, I can not help but shed tears several times when I watch the moving scene where Gump rushed into dangerous forest again and again to save his battle companions. What great selfless devotion Gump showed us! Unfortunately, Bubble, one of the best friends of Gump died in the battle field, which left a great grief to Gum. While, after retiring from military service, Gum kept his promise and purchased a big shrimp ship in order to finish Bubble’ dream. Meanwhile, he also provided financial support to Bubble’ family. First Lieutenant Dan, a staunch soldier, who lost his two legs in Viet Nam , abandoned himself in the abyss of despair. Nevertheless, Gump still supported him and finally help him make peace with God. Gump told us that genuine friendship needs nothing but love and sincerity.

Life is like a feather which drifts randomly in the swing of wind and there are quite some things we can not determine. But what we can do is traveling as far as we can with a genuine belief for courage, love and sincerity .If so, when time flied and all things fade away someday, the fragrance of our mellow life will last forever, just like what Gump did.

When I was a middle school student, I’ve finished this book in Chinese. But when I read it in English,I really gain something new both in the way of expression and the spirit it shows to us.May be different ages to read the same book we will learn different things from it.At least, for my part, that is true.

Firstly,I would like to review some information about this book.Such as the background, major characters and the topic of it.

The Old Man and the Sea is a story by Ernest Hemingway, written in Cuba in 1951 and published in 1952. It was the last major work of fiction to be produced by Hemingway and published in his lifetime. One of his most famous works, it centers upon Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream.

The Old Man and the Sea served to reinvigorate Hemingways literary reputation and prompted a reexamination of his entire body of work. The novella was initially received with much popularity; it restored many readers confidence in Hemingways capability as an author. Its publisher, Scribners, on an early dust jacket, called the novella a "new classic," and many critics favorably compared it with such works as William Faulkners "The Bear" and Herman Melvilles Moby-Dick.

This book gives me a deep impression especially the description about the man’s braveness and persistence.

In this book, in order to suggest the profundity of the old man’s sacrifice and the glory that derives from it, Hemingway purposefully likens Santiago to Christ, who, according to Christian theology, gave his life for the greater glory of humankind. Crucifixion imagery is the most noticeable way in which Hemingway creates the symbolic parallel between Santiago and Christ. When Santiago’s palms are first cut by his fishing line, the reader cannot help but think of Christ suffering his stigmata. Later, when the sharks arrive, Hemingway portrays the old man as a crucified martyr, saying that he makes a noise similar to that of a man having nails driven through his hands. Furthermore, the image of the old man struggling up the hill with his mast across his shoulders recalls Christ’s march toward Calvary. Even the position in which Santiago collapses on his bed—face down with his arms out straight and the palms of his hands up—brings to mind the image of Christ suffering on the cross. Hemingway employs these images in the final pages of the novella in order to link Santiago to Christ, who exemplified transcendence by turning loss into gain, defeat into triumph, and even death into renewed life.

The major characters in this book are also vivid and lively.

Santiago?,the old man of the novella’s title, Santiago is a Cuban fisherman who has had an extended run of bad luck. Despite his expertise, he has been unable to catch a fish for eighty-four days. He is humble, yet exhibits a justified pride in his abilities. His knowledge of the sea and its creatures, and of his craft, is unparalleled and helps him preserve a sense of hope regardless of circumstance.

The marlin?,Santiago hooks the marlin, which we learn at the end of the novella measures eighteen feet, on the first afternoon of his fishing expedition. Manolin?,a boy presumably in his adolescence, Manolin is Santiago’s apprentice and devoted attendant. The old man first took him out on a boat when he was merely five years old. Due to Santiago’s recent bad luck, Manolin’s parents have forced the boy to go out on a different fishing boat. Manolin, however, still cares deeply for the old man, to whom he continues to look as a mentor.

Joe DiMaggio, although DiMaggio never appears in the novel, he plays a significant role nonetheless. Santiago worships him as a model of strength and commitment, and his thoughts turn toward DiMaggio whenever he needs to reassure himself of his own strength. Perico ?,Perico, the reader assumes, owns the bodega in Santiago’s village. He never appears in the novel, but he serves an important role in the fisherman’s life by providing him with newspapers that report the baseball scores. This act establishes him as a kind man who helps the aging Santiago.

Martin, like Perico, Martin, a café owner in Santiago’s village, does not appear in the story. The reader learns of him through Manolin, who often goes to Martin for Santiago’s supper. As the old man says, Martin is a man of frequent kindness who deserves to be repaid.

From the very first paragraph, Santiago is characterized as someone struggling against defeat. He has gone eighty-four days without catching a fish—he will soon pass his own record of eighty-seven days. Almost as a reminder of Santiago’s struggle, the sail of his skiff resembles “the flag of permanent defeat.” But the old man refuses defeat at every turn: he resolves to sail out beyond the other fishermen to where the biggest fish promise to be. He lands the marlin, tying his record of eighty-seven days after a brutal three-day fight, and he continues to ward off sharks from stealing his prey, even though he knows the battle is useless.

Because Santiago is pitted against the creatures of the sea, some readers choose to view the tale as a chronicle of man’s battle against the natural world, but the novella is, more accurately, the story of man’s place within nature. Both Santiago and the marlin display qualities of pride, honor, and bravery, and both are subject to the same eternal law: they must kill or be killed. As Santiago reflects when he watches the weary warbler fly toward shore, where it will inevitably meet the hawk, the world is filled with predators, and no living thing can escape the inevitable struggle that will lead to its death. Santiago lives according to his own observation: “man is not made for defeat . . . [a] man can be destroyed but not defeated.” In Hemingway’s portrait of the world, death is inevitable, but the best men (and animals) will nonetheless refuse to give in to its power. Accordingly, man and fish will struggle to the death, just as hungry sharks will lay waste to an old man’s trophy catch.

The novel suggests that it is possible to transcend this natural law. In fact, the very inevitability of destruction creates the terms that allow a worthy man or beast to transcend it. It is precisely through the effort to battle the inevitable that a man can prove himself. Indeed, a man can prove this determination over and over through the worthiness of the opponents he chooses to face. Santiago finds the marlin worthy of a fight, just as he once found “the great negro of Cienfuegos” worthy. HSantiago, though destroyed at the end of the novella, is never defeated. Instead, he emerges as a hero. Santiago’s struggle does not enable him to change man’s place in the world. Rather, it enables him to meet his most dignified destiny.

While it is certainly true that Santiago’s eighty-four-day run of bad luck is an affront to his pride as a masterful fisherman, and that his attempt to bear out his skills by sailing far into the gulf waters leads to disaster, Hemingway does not condemn his protagonist for being full of pride. On the contrary, Santiago stands as proof that pride motivates men to greatness. Because the old man acknowledges that he killed the mighty marlin largely out of pride, and because his capture of the marlin leads in turn to his heroic transcendence of defeat, pride becomes the source of Santiago’s greatest strength. Without a ferocious sense of pride, that battle would never have been fought, or more likely, it would have been abandoned before the end.

Santiago’s pride also motivates his desire to transcend the destructive forces of nature. Throughout the novel, no matter how baleful his circumstances become, the old man exhibits an unflagging determination to catch the marlin and bring it to shore. When the first shark arrives, Santiago’s resolve is mentioned twice in the space of just a few paragraphs. Even if the old man had returned with the marlin intact, his moment of glory, like the marlin’s meat, would have been short-lived. The glory and honor Santiago accrues comes not from his battle itself but from his pride and determination to fight.

Santiago dreams his pleasant dream of the lions at play on the beaches of Africa three times. The first time is the night before he departs on his three-day fishing expedition, the second occurs when he sleeps on the boat for a few hours in the middle of his struggle with the marlin, and the third takes place at the very end of the book. In fact, the sober promise of the triumph and regeneration with which the novella closes is supported by the final image of the lions. Because Santiago associates the lions with his youth, the dream suggests the circular nature of life. Additionally, because Santiago imagines the lions, fierce predators, playing, his dream suggests a harmony between the opposing forces—life and death, love and hate, destruction and regeneration—of nature.

This book gives me courage of conquering all kinds of difficulties .And I have the belief that the most beautiful thing is the process that we make our best to achieve our dream, and never say give up .

Recently,I have just finished reading a famous novel written by Margaret mitchellGone with the Wind, which is one of the most popular works among American novels. It took the auther about 10 years to finish this great novel, the only novel in her life.

The story happened during the Civil War eve.Scarlett O"Hara,a 16-year-old girl, who was living in Tala manor in Georgia, was loving her neighbor Ashley Wilkes. However, after the war have broken out, Ashley Wilkes married his yonger cousin Melanie. Scarlett was so angry that she decided to marry a man she didn’t really love---- Charles Hamilton. Not long after that, Charles Hamilton joined the Army and died of illness in the war.So Scarlett had to act as a widow.Afterwards,at a donating dance party,Scarlett is acquainted with a captain named Rhett Butler. Then the flames of war approached Atlanta.Everyone was busy leaving away from the war.Scarlett managed to escape from Atlanta with the help of captain Rhett.Having come back to Tala manor,Scarlett made up her mind to rally her homeland at any cost when she saw that the former manor had been ruined.Later, her second husband died in the fight, she was a widow again.Durling that time, Rhett had been loving Scarlett sincerely and warmly.Seeing that Rhett could help her rally the manor,Scarlett married him.Although Rhett had similar characteristic attracting her,Scarlett still loved Ashley.Later, their only daughter died accidently,Rhett left Scarlett sorrowly. And then Scarlett realized that Rhett was the only one who could fall in love with her.

The novel takes the US Civil War as the background. It takes Scarlett’s individual activity as the thread. The book show us a tragic love story .A couple who could have a perfect future, but finnally go in opposite direction. As a matter of fact, their charactristics have decided their tragic result inevitably. We feel sorry about the end because we are looking forward to a perfect end, just like Scarlett and Rhett. In fact, ferfect is always a excessive damand.

I affirm Rhett. He brings excitement to Scarlett’s life and encourages her impulse to change and succeed.Like Scarlett,he goes after what he wants and refuses to take ‘no’ for an answer. He is humorous, intelligent and cynical with a hint of treason. He is really a respectable man.I think he finnally left because of love .Otherwise,he couldn’t have gone without hesitation.

Ashley Wilkes is the foil to Rhett’s dark, realistic opportunism. If there was no Civil War,he is surely a nobility of grace and charm. But history cannot be changed. He bocame a victim of the war.His era was gone with the defeat of the war.At the same time,we cannot deny the fact that he had a chear understanding about reality, which just contribute to his tragedy.

In this book, what I appreciate most is not Melanie’skindness or Rheet’s dedication and patience, but Scarlett’s courage to throw her long-standing morality and tradition whe faced with diffiiculties. At the beginning of the war,she didn’t care about this.In her world are endless dinner parties and dance parties. In her body are her father’s brave Irish blood and her mother’s noble French pure blood. She had a vast farm as her home. She had hundreds of slaves. This is Scarlett.,a member of noblity, proud and different. However, the war changed everything. Her mother died of illness. Her father become silent and the farm was nearly deserted.Even food became a big problem. All the pressure was put on Scarlett’s shoulder. She must feed a family of 9 people in it.What a big difference of level. If all this happened to someone else,he or she may choose to escape. On the contrary,Scarlett choose to face the change of life bravely. How can we not admire her courage of to change herself.Life is like a mountain. The road can’t be completely smooth. When we fall down from the peak,we may get hert ,we may get disappointed,we may feel despair. But if you want to survive, you must stand up to face it.

It is obvious that 《Gone with the wind》 is really a good book, even if a long time has passed away,it is still suitable for today’s society. It is of great importance to change ourselves, change our value even our thoughts when our life chages.

On the other hand,I think there is no real perfect in the world.Everybody has his shortcomings. It is necessary for us to learn to forgive others’ faults. If we keep good-tempered,Ibelieve there will be more comedy and less tragedy.

"Father and son" is a humorous cartoon. I have read the book three times.

When I first read the book, my mother heard the laughter coming from the study room. Indeed, the book is very interesting, and father and son often make jokes. For example, "sunset map": his father is a bald. One day, father read a newspaper on the sofa. The son called his companion, and showed him half the bald head of his sofa as a sunset, drawing on the sofa, and adding a picture frame. The father suddenly turned, and the setting sun had eyebrows, eyes, whiskers, ears. Father humor, simple, kind and playful, son smart, naive, cute and naughty, these two characters are very popular with everyone.

The second time I read this book, I felt the deep affection between father and son. One of the comic stories goes like this: the father and his son go to the seaside for a holiday. The son found a lot of pebbles on the beach and threw stones into the sea until he could not find any stones. Father saw, in the evening, pushing the car, over and over to the seaside to transport stones. The second day, the son found a pile of stones piled on the beach, very happy. My father was pleased to see it. I carefully observed fifth cartoons, found his father for his son to transport a pebble, sweat a lot. My father did everything for his son, and his son loved his father. He also made me cry.

When I read the book third times, I went abroad to combine the preface to know that E O Plauen created the father and son in the dark age when the Nazi fascist ruled germany. This warm, touching the cartoons was in the years of turmoil of creation, he is really a positive and optimistic person, is a person who is very loving son. He is a good painter concerned. He did not like some people in order to save life and property and surrender to the Nazis, he boldly created anti Nazi cartoons. But such a master of humour was mercilessly killed by the evil fascist. I think, while we praise the father and the son, we should praise their Creator, egypt. Austria. Rauen.

I read three times "father and son", and every time there was a new discovery. I hope I read every good book.

Sons and Lovers was D.H. Lawrences first major novel. His only major novel, some would say; but even readers who are out of sympathy with him, or who feel that his gifts were not really those of a novelist, have usually been happy to make a wholehearted exception in this one case.

It is a book that goes straight to the point, at the outset and at almost every subsequent stage. Between them his two methods leave us in no doubt where the heart of his story is to be located.

Gertrude Morel is a woman of high principle, of character and refinement. Her husband is a miner who can barely read and write. Marrying him for passion, she is bitterly disappointed by his rough manners, his drinking, what she can only see as his weakness and irresponsibility. When the book opens, the marriage has already turned into a battlefield, and the love she has withdrawn from Morel is being redirected toward the first of her children. In the previous chapters, Gertrude Morel is most devoted to her eldest son William. But after he dies of a skin disease, she plunges into grief. Seeing William is gone, she rededicates her life to Paul, and this revives her. She teaches her son art, education, and social advancement. She lives for her sons and will do anything to see them make their way in the world.

Mrs. Morel is terribly tired of her involvement in Paul and Miriams relationship and decides to stop intervening. She knows that Paul is an adult now and that there is nothing she can do to stop Paul from seeing Miriam. She feels that she can never forgive her son for sacrificing himself to love Miriam. As it mentions above, Paul has begun to realize how much his mother affects his life. Her deep love for him has made her a part of himself that when he wants to break free from his mother, he is unable to get away from her. His mother is ingrained into his very soul.

That’s to say, his mother influences Paul very much, and which proves to be for worse to him. When Paul finds girlfriend, he always find the girl who takes after his mother, not only the out look but also in mental. But in fact he could not find such girl. So it lead to that he never willing to be bound to Miriam in marriage or to Clara in physical love. At last Paul has begun to realize how much his mother affects his life. Her deep love for him has made her a part of himself that when he wants to break free from his mother, he is unable to get away from her. His mother is ingrained into his very soul.

To sum up, Paul’s mother has some bad influence on him and to a large extent changes his life.

La Traviata alexandre dumas, French is the author of this novel, let me feel too deep, the feeling is too deep.

Ancient beauty rush, more beautiful appearance bring infinite sadness and tragedy. While prostitutes, especially beautiful and talented prostitute, go along this road is hard. Such as ten niangs, fear and love and hate into the spring waters flowed eastward; Chen sisi, round fate is also a sigh, a helpless. And Ive seen La Traviata after it became clear that such a tragedy not only happened in China.

This is Margarets love tragedy story. The humble a weak woman in dissolute and no purpose to find the true love in life, used to abandon their material comforts, gave up everything to make yourself happy for the time being the erosion life habit, can only to ask and favorite people together. To climb out, from the deep mire is to spend a lot of strength and determination, and also make their minimum mud pollution. Margaret did, and do very well. Can be so great, in return for the remains of people dont understand and exclusion, and selfish people malicious slander. Huge resistance to Margaret and eventually lovers separated, misunderstanding to your most favorite people need comfort to expose her, this is how painful thing? Perhaps really only death can save her. Yes, Margaret died, died lonely, never alive when luxury, countless lovers also forget her before. Before the more sensation of life, death, the more cold and cheerless.

Thank dumas created such a sad La Traviata and lovely beautiful woman. However, in the hope that the dead flower bud from the soil, rebirth again, away from the dark corner, can every day and the sun company, even if no longer so beautiful, dont repeat the tragedy of the past.
