MacDiarmid from America, the person who got the Nobel Prize for chemistry in the year of XX. In his lecture at Peking University this year, he put forward that science is people. He also expounded the importance of the basic science for the public. Evidently, every one of us does need science, or we can’t live without it.

Now that everyone needs science, why not take advantage of some means to give the public the right basic scientific knowledge? So when they face the problems such as acid rain, the greenhouse effect, nuclear weapons, environment destruction and some other problems, they can also make informed decisions on these subjects, just as what Hawking said. One aspect relies on what is taught in schools. But science is often taught in an uninteresting way and most students just learn it by rote to pass examinations. However, the final goal of learning science is not to pass examinations or to get a higher score; instead, we should try to make full use of it to change our world and life. While learning, we should try to ask more questions and we should have the courage of suspecting the knowledge in the books, as some of the scientific conclusions are likely to be corrected in the future. Ive read this twice. The first time I rushed through it just to find out who was the "victim." Yeah. Wasnt really surprised about that. Im sure a few people are thinking it was a serious mistake to off our lamented victim, but honestly, I wasnt really enthused at having to slog through this book.

I understand that this is covering the adolescent years of young Mr. Potter, but the whole teenage angst thing came out of nowhere. There shouldve been some hints as far back as "Chamber" but instead, we have four years of pent-up hormones come flooding out of the page. It is overwhelming at times, a feeling made worse when you realize that there wasnt a big plot; if anything, this was written partially for contract, partially to continue the story （I, personally, could have lived without the whole Hagrid/Grawp subplot, not to mention 50% of Dolores Umbridge, who herself is part pun, part metaphor, yet neither part really does anything but make one groan）。

But one thing to be said, there is growing tension and suspense in the book, which is written and intended--if we remember for a moment and think （perhaps somewhat na-iv-ely）--for young adults and not those of us with seasoned palates. This is why the book deserves a high rating; to me--and to many individuals over the age of, say, 16--this isnt a great novel. But it is an excellent novel for the young adult crowd and anyone who wants a mystery/fantasy/pseudo-thriller with characters who are reaching the genesis of their development. We may not like the person Harry becomes or the browbeating attitude of Umbridge or Rons jealousy rearing its head at odd turns, but it is a realistic portrayal of adolescent confusion and angst, of the tendency for some individuals in todays society to repreinformation and punish anyone who tries to resist the "system."

Yes, this is a heavy-handed statement, but this book is a metaphor as much as it is a fantasy. Remember, the Harry Potter series is desgined as an arc, so we naturally have to have the stage set for the final two books in the saga.

Hardcore Potter fans will enjoy this. Anyone expecting a great epic, however, will be disappointed because of their misconceptions.

Published in 1847, WUTHERING HEIGHTS was not well received by the reading public, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural--and author Emily Bronte went to her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was not until 1850, when WUTHERING HEIGHTS received a second printing with an introduction by Emilys sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. And from that point the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it is widely recognized as one of the great novels of English literature.

Even so, WUTHERING HEIGHTS continues to divide readers. It is not a pretty love story; rather, it is swirling tale of largely unlikeable people caught up in obsessive love that turns to dark madness. It is cruel, violent, dark and brooding, and many people find it extremely unpleasant. And yet--it possesses a grandeur of language and design, a sense of tremendous pity and great loss that sets it apart from virtually every other novel written.

The novel is told in the form of an extended flashback. As the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and one of the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into a ghostly tone: Heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is not there but who seems reflected in every part of his world--dragging her corpse from the grave, hearing her calling to him from the moors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality but so that her memory will never fade, so that she may never leave his mind until death itself. As was the common practice with the gods of Olympus,Zeus and Hermes were visiting the world in disguise．One day they came to a village．At a thousand house sthey knocked,and a thousand times they were refused rest and food and drink．At last they arrived at a humble cottage,where the old couple Baucis and her husband Philemon lived．Poor but at peace with world,they made the best of what life could offer them ,and felt truly grateful to the gods above．When the two travellers entered the hut,the old couple were glad with lively happiness．They offered their guests their best seat,and immediately set about preparing dinner for them．With no small difficulty they made fire,brought in a fresh cabbage,cut a fat piece of their long kept meat and put them over the fire to cook．The one single goose they were ready to kill for the visitors,but it was saved at the last minute by the guests．The dining bench was a makeshift ,poor and patched but the best they had．The table was supported by a brick．The feast was quite modest,eggs and wine and cot tage cheese,and a variety of newly pickedfruit．The old couple humbly waited on the visiting guests withsincere looks and eager goodwill．Moved at the hospitality ofthe house,the gods told their true identity．“We are gods”,saidZeus．“While the neigh bour hood pays the penalty for itswickedness you shall be free from misfortune．Coming along with us”．When they were near the top of the hill,Bancis and Phile mon looked back and saw all the village below covered by amarsh ,and that among the general ruin and destruction their old cottage alone survived,changed into a grand temple．At their request they were made the guardians of the sacred place of Zeus．When their span of worldly life came to an end they were turned into an ash and linden,standing side by side in front of the temple．

《简爱》是英国文学史上的一部经典传世之作，它成功地塑造了英国文学史中豪迈和胆量。我想，这应该才是最关键的一步，也应该是走向独立的决定性的一步。而夏洛蒂笔下的简爱却把她倔强的性格，独立的个性留给我们一个感动。所以她是成功的，幸福的女性。

简爱已作为独立女性的经典，我希望阳光下，鲜花里有更多的简爱走出来，不管是贫穷，还是富有；不管是美貌，还是相貌平庸，都有美好的心灵和充实的心胸，都能以独立的人格和坚强的个性生活。

看了《简爱》思绪万千，激—情澎湃，我总会被里面的每一个情节，每一句话深深打动，曾和张哥说过，张哥说：“可能简爱里有我的影子，我才如此热衷，很多时候我们都是因为书里面有我们自己的影子而热衷于那本书。”如：他爱《平凡的世界》中的孙少平，《红与黑》中的于连。我冥想，果真有我的影子吗？也许有一点点，可是自己和简比起来，终是没她优秀，也没她理智和坚强的。好几次想写《简爱》读后感的，只恐自己才疏学浅，道不尽其中的韵味，只能记其一二，留作纪念。

《简爱》是夏洛蒂。勃朗特以充满激—情的笔法，塑造了简爱这样一个谦谨、坚强而有独立精神的形象。简爱幼年父母双亡，寄人篱下，饱受欺凌；后来又进了孤儿院受尽折磨。她贫穷矮小，貌不惊人，但她凭着一颗坚强高尚的心灵，自尊自立。她与罗切斯特的爱真诚炽热，又坚决建立在平等的基础上。最后历经种种磨难，终于获得真诚珍贵的爱情。

看过的爱情小说很多，也总痴情与别人的故事，但唯独《简爱》让我百看不厌，爱不释手，每次翻开总会激—情满满，思绪万千。简爱勇敢、独立、坚强、外表朴素却心思绵密，机智、敏锐，每一个眼神都具有穿透力、洞察人的内心。貌似平静，但内心深处有着十分绚烂而甜蜜的幻想，有着火样的热情与如水的柔情。

简爱一直以来都是我的偶像，当我身处逆境时，深受挫折时，我总会想起她，想起那个简爱：他告诉我无论经历什么，无论遇到了什么，都不要放弃自己，不要对生活失去希望，即使在痛苦中也要努力，努力让自己向上，认真地生活。

印象中有一段是这样的：罗切斯特装成一个巫婆，对简爱说：“你冷，你不舒服，且很蠢，你冷是因为你孤孤单单一个人，你不舒服是因为多少甜蜜以及美好的东西都与你无缘，你蠢是因为你明知道有一份幸福在等着你你却不愿向他靠近一步”罗切斯特用心细致地观察发现了简爱当时的处境和简爱的所思，所想。罗切斯特也是让我很喜欢的男主人公，若没有他对简爱细致，用心地爱，也成全不了他们那么刻骨铭心的爱。

当简爱想到阻隔在她和她主人之间那条很深，很宽的鸿沟——财富，地位，世俗时，她的眼泪再也不听她的意志，夺眶而出，当罗切斯特说：“有时候我有一种奇怪的感觉——尤其像你现在在我身边时。仿佛我左肋下的哪个地方有一根弦与你那小身躯里同样的地方一根同样的弦打成了结，纠缠得紧紧的，解也解不开，一旦我们分开，我真怕这两根纠缠着的弦套被绷断，那时候我会紧张不安，我的心会痛得流血。而你呢——你会把我抛在一边，忘得干干净净吧？”后来简爱反驳说：我一定得离开，你以为我会留下来，成为你眼中一个可有可无的人吗？你以为我是一架机器——一架冷漠无感情的机器吗？你以为我能受得了别人把我仅有的一片面包从我口里夺走，把仅有的一滴救命之水从我杯里泼掉吗？你以为，因为我贫穷、卑微、矮孝不美，我就没有灵魂，没有心了吗？——你错了，我也有和你一样的灵魂，和你一样的一颗心！如果上帝曾给我一点儿美丽、丰富财产，我也会让你感到难以离开我，就像我现在难以离开你一样。我现在是用我的心灵和你的心灵对话，站在上帝面前，我们是平等的。我被深深震撼：简的感情是多么丰富而又理智。当我们深爱一个人时，很多时候，为了怕失去，我们委屈自己，不敢说出心里的话，甚至忍受自己在他眼中是一个可有可无的人，简爱不能忍受，在我的感情世界里我也不允许自己忍受别人不在乎我，假如不在乎，我宁愿自己像简爱样，即使心里痛苦，绝望也要逼自己离开。纵使我不美丽，贫穷，卑微，但我也是有自尊的，我也渴望平等。
