I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumass last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. 教室里有说有笑，十分热闹。只见黑板上写了六个大字：庆元旦联欢会。

主持人上台啦!“首先有请种景给我们演奏《龙的传人》。”教室里立刻响起一片热烈的掌声。我快步走上台，先鞠了个躬，然后熟练地弹起那优美的旋律。我边弹边唱，许多同学也跟着我唱，同学们不断地给我鼓掌，我的心里十分高兴。

“下面，有请徐瑞宇为我们表演《绳子穿脖子》。”只见徐瑞宇用一根绳子紧紧地勒住了自己的脖子，然后双手猛一抖，绳子从脖子里穿了过来，又扯在了徐瑞宇的手里。咦，绳子是怎么从脖子里穿过去的呢?太神奇了!

接下来，同学们有表演了许多节目，有唱歌的，有猜谜语的，出脑筋急转弯的，还有变魔术的……每一个节目都很精彩。

走在回家的路上，我不住地想：我们班的庆元旦联欢会真是太精彩了!
