The International Olympic Committee selected the Chinese capital as the 2008 host in Fridays vote during Juan Antonio Samaranchs last IOC session as president.The attraction of staging the Games in a country which has the worlds largest population, as well as huge economic potential, won the IOCs heart.

With the motto "New Beijing, Great Olympics", Beijing promises to host a "Green Olympics", a "Hi-tech Olympics" and the "Peoples Olympics".

The 3,000-year-old city is becoming a truly international city and showing a new, vigorous image through its ongoing economic reforms.

Beijing enjoys the widest popular support among the five bidding cities. A Gallup opinion poll commissioned by the government showed 94.9 percent of the public in favor of it. The IOCs own surveys found support even higher. The Chinese government has pledged to spend 20 billion U.S. dollars building sports complexes and refurbishing the Beijing infrastructure. There are plans for a new exhibition center with twin skyscrapers that could be taller than any in the world.

People native to urban Beijing speak the Beijing dialect, which belongs to

the Mandarin subdivision of spoken Chinese. Beijing dialect is the basis for

Standard Mandarin, the language used in the Peoples Republic of China, the

Republic of China on Taiwan, and Singapore. Rural areas of Beijing Municipality

have their own dialects akin to those of Hebei province, which surrounds Beijing

Beijing Opera, or Peking Opera (Jingju), is well-known throughout the

complain, however, that the traditional sense of community and street life of

the hutongs cannot be replaced. Some particularly historic or picturesque

hutongs are being preserved and restored by the government, especially for the

Mandarin cuisine is the local style of cooking in Beijing. Peking Roast

Duck is perhaps the most well-known dish. The Manhan Quanxi ("Manchu-Han Chinese

full banquet") is a traditional banquet originally intended for the

ethnic-Manchu emperors of the Qing Dynasty; it remains very prestigious and

expensive.

Teahouses are also common in Beijing. Chinese tea comes in many varieties

and some rather expensive types of Chinese tea are said to cure an ailing body

The Jingtailan is a cloisonné metalworking technique and tradition

originating from Beijing, and one of the most revered traditional crafts in

China. Beijing lacquerware is well known for the patterns and images carved into

Olympic Games will be held every four years and it is the biggest sports

event. My father is a big fan and he will stay up very late to watch the sport.

I was affected by my father. I fell in love with many sports and diving was my

favorite Olympics sport. At first, I was attracted by the excellent movement

That was spectacular. Tonight, the world was able to join in a magnificent tribute to the athletes and the Olympic spirit. It was an unforgettable and moving ceremony that celebrated the imagination, originality and energy of the Beijing Games.

We saw 204 national delegations march into the beautiful new National Stadium in the age-old tradition of the Games. Millions of people around the world were able to experience the thrill of seeing their heroes in a sea of team colours and national flags.

We witnessed athletes from these 204 countries and territories united in peace in one place. And for the next 16 days, they will be a part of one of the most thrilling competitions in history. As an Olympian, I can tell you that they will carry this memory with them forever.

你们好!

当我一听到北京取得举办奥运会的资格时，就写了这封信。每四年一届的奥运会是世界瞩目的焦点，有来自许许多多国家的运动员们。想想以前，曾被称为“东亚病夫”的中国人，在奥运赛场上何曾有他们的一席之地，而如今，这个体育盛事将在北京举行，作为一名中国的小学生，2008年就在我们中国召开奥运会。我们是中国人，就应该为北京奥运会出一份力，2008年我已是15岁的小伙子了，我等待着那一天，我要为奥运会欢呼、呐喊。

每当坐在电视机前，看到电视机上报道着奥运会会场一天天建成，我仿佛至身在会场之中。在繁华的奥运会赛场上，观众席上坐满了来自全世界的观众，他们热烈的跳起了舞，掌声此起彼伏，为了给奥运会增添喜悦的色彩，黄色的布条上写着醒目的大字——中国腾飞。

我和她各那拿上一根铁东西就出发了。我们先清理旧楼的广告，在第一层我们刮呀刮、抠呀抠，好长时间才清理了几个。突然，我想起我们还带着铁棍，就问她：“你的工具呢?”“谢谢你提醒我啊，我的手都快抠烂了!”清理完这层，我们决定清理报箱上的小广告，以免送报人因看不清号码而送错报纸。

我们来到新楼的报箱面前，我还没来得及说话，她就迫不及待地拿着小铁棍去抠小广告，我连忙拦住了她，说：“你用铁的，不就把报箱弄坏了吗?简直是帮倒忙!”“也对呀，你这小兔子脑袋想得很周到啊!”她边笑着边拍了拍我的小脑袋。于是，我们都用手抠，虽然手很疼，但看着一个个干干净净的报箱，打退堂鼓的念头早就被我们抛到九霄云外了。“天添帮帮我，这个小广告太难抠了，”我立刻过去帮她，在我们的共同努力下，这个“狗皮膏药”终于弄下来了，不早了，天已经渐渐黑了，我们唱着歌，高高兴兴地回家了。

这一天过得真有意义!

This semester, I took part in the code of conduct volunteer activities, as a volunteer for a little. Conduct volunteers, mainly use their spare time, check whether the behavior of the students meet the requirements of the us GuangYu elementary school. In accordance with the provisions, such as school wear school uniform, wearing the crest and the red scarf, recess if did not loud, not chasing each other, whether in school did care for the environment, and so on.

When volunteers, I was very excited, came to school early every day, physically to check at the school gate. I think volunteering is sets up the dedication, unity and love, help others, and common progress of society, so whenever I see some students do not conform to the norms of behavior, I always adhere to the service with a smile, a friendly reminder that they do behaviour.

I like this a volunteer activity, but also appreciate the volunteer during the activity, the teacher gave me the opportunity and support, I have been tolerant and understanding this small volunteers of the classmates. Volunteering is not only let me know what is a volunteer, we feel happy, but also exercise my communication skills, enrich the experience of growing up.

这个学期，我参加了行为规范志愿活动，当上了一名小小志愿者。行为规范志愿者，主要是利用自己的业余时间，检查同学们的行为是否符合我们广育小学规定的要求。譬如上学时是否按规定穿了校服、佩戴了校徽和红领巾，课间是否做到了不大声喧哗、不相互追逐，在学校是否做到了爱护环境等等。

The Olympic Games will be held this year.I am so excited and I think the games will be interesting and also fascinating.But now,the important is,how should we do with the Olmpics if I am a volunteer?To solve the problem will be extremely difficult,because nowadays lots of people devote themselves to society and you can not hold an opportunity easily.So just try my best.
