red paper. People in northern China will eat jiaozi, or dumplings, for

breakfast, as they think "jiaozi" in sound means "bidding farewell to the old

and ushering in the new". Also, the shape of the dumpling is like gold ingot

from ancient China. So people eat them and wish for money and treasure.

Southern Chinese eat niangao (New Year cake made of glutinous rice flour)

on this occasion, because as a homophone, niangao means "higher and higher, one

year after another." The first five days after the Spring Festival are a good

time for relatives, friends, and classmates as well as colleagues to exchange

greetings, gifts and chat leisurely.

China has 56 ethnic groups. Minorities celebrate their Spring Festival

almost the same day as the Han people, and they have different customs.

当我还在上幼儿园时，妈妈就给我买了一大堆故事书。每天晚上，妈妈都会坐在床头给我讲故事，使我从小就对书产生了浓厚的兴趣。幼儿园时的学习和积累，使我一年级时就能阅读一些比较简单的.童话故事，从中我得到了许多乐趣。如当我看到一些令人发笑的画面和情节时，我总会哈哈大笑起来，然后有声有色地讲给妈妈听。这时妈妈总会竖起大拇指表扬我讲得好。一年级第二个学期，妈妈给我买了《日记起步》，让我每天写一句话的日记，并按照书里面写的给我讲了什么是日记。记得我第一次写的时候只写了一句“今天我知道了什么是日记”，妈妈还说我写得棒。后来，我的日记从一句变到一段，再从一段变到一篇，不过使我学会了写日记的不只是妈妈的教导，更重要的是那一本本好书，是它们教会了我写作文，是它们让我阅读了一篇篇好文章。正是因为有了它们，才使我的写作水平得到了提升。

四年级时，我开始阅读一些科普类的书籍，如《百科全书》、《十万个为什么》。自捧上那些书后，我的心就像插上翅膀一般，自由地在科学的世界里飞翔。它使我认识了布鲁诺，为他那种为真理而献身的精神而感动；它使我认识了近代科学之父――伽俐略，他的孜孜不倦追求科学精神，也为我所景仰；它还使我认识了工作到最后一天的使我敬佩的华罗庚，科学女杰玛丽．居里，求是精神的典范――竺可桢……它还是还使我知道了人类的起源和古代历史……

自从读书活动开展后，我对书更是着迷．中午放学回家，我马上做完作业，就捧起书津津有味地看起来，吃饭时也在看，为此，妈妈不知说了我多少回，可我全当”耳边风”不把妈妈的话当回事．后来．妈妈拿我也没办法，只得由着我．晚上，我又躺在床上，打开灯，又开始我的”书之旅”．有时，时间已经很晚了，妈妈便不让我看书，可我不行，硬是拿起书来看，哪怕只让我看五分钟也好啊！平时有空的时候，我也会拿起书，星期天下午，我就会去图书馆，享受我一星期中最丰富的时光！在看书的过程中，我与主人公一起欢乐，一起忧伤，一起愤怒……

我读书，我成长，我快乐，读书使我永远追求！
