Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

The Great Wall

The Great Wall runs across North China like a huge dragon,It winds its way from west to east,across deserts,over mountains,through valleys till at last it reaches the sea.Its the longest wall on the earth,also one of the wonders in the world.

The Great Wall has a history of more than 2000 years.The first part was built during the Spring and Autumn Period.All the walls were joined up in Qin Dynasty.All tile work was done by hand.Thousands of people died while building the wall.Thus the Great Wall came into existence.

Since then,it has been rebuilt and repaired many times.Now the Great Wall,the admiration of the world,has taken on a new look.Its visited by large numbers of people from all partsof thecountry and the world.

Last Sunday, I went sightseeing with my friends in the Fairy Lake Park. I was appreciating the beautiful lake when a scene that didn’t go with its harmony came into my eyes. A couple were cheering loudly on a boat, letting out the noise disturbing all the visitors around. They even threw litter and spat into the water, completely ignoring the sign nearby “No throwing litter into the lake!”

How could they lack public morality so much? I felt sad about them. And I was totally against what they did.

Every individual should think about others’ feelings and avoid polluting the environment while they are enjoying the beautiful scenery; otherwise the Fairy Lake Park would not be fairy at all and lake might be a pool of dirty dead water some day. Therefore we should mind our behavior in public places so that the environment in public places will be more and more beautiful.

As we all know, pollution is harmful to living beings. There are many different types of pollutions in this world. For instance, water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution and so on. Water pollution cause many kinds of disease that have negative effects on human beings, sometimes the diseases will take people’s life away. Dirty air will increase the rate of getting lung cancer. Every year on the fourth ThursDayof November is Thanksgiving Day. It’s a festival for American and Canadian with the purpose of thanks for harvest. While canadians celebrate on the second Monday of October. I have a penfriend in America. He wrote to me his Thanksgiving Day last year. He told me that it was a time for family reunion. Families would come back home to celebrate the festival together. Most of the time it was his mother who prepared the dinner. Turkey is must for the festival. It looks like huge chicken. His mother also made pumpkin pie and many other delicious food for them. After the dinner, they talked with each other with the old thing or the future plan. Today was the first day of my new life. I looked at my new books and checked everything for the new school year. I was excited as well as worried.

Everyone has his ideals. A businessman wishes to make greater profit; a farmer expects plumper harvests; a student tries to learn more and better.

However, one should be sensible about whether his ideal is well founded or not. If it is, one has to plan and work hard for its realization. Effort, skill and persistence are all necessary. And very often, one has to get help from others, including advice and support in one form or another.

That day, my sister, he and me went to the swimming pool near my home and i bought the tickets. My sister, my cousin and i, then, made for the changeroom. When we got to the door, he stopped and was hesitant,murmuring,"i am not entering it,its for girls." All of a sudden, my sister and i bursted into laughter. So, i had to give his swimsuit to him. He ran for the mens and stopped outside. After looking into the room for a moment, he walked in it. A while later, when we two girls were finished, he was waiting for us outside.

He was a green in swimming. Instead of being afraid, he was filled with exitment,showing his little tight teeth, while my sister and i held his arms firmly.
