the main schools created in ancient China, and they also have great influence on

the Modern China and the world, especially the Confucianism. They deeply root in

traditional Chinese culture and people’s daily lives.

Specially, kung fu, traditional Chinese painting, poem, opera, cooking,

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually

in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han

Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han

Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that

Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas

body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar

month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to

show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a

grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central

Plains to the whole of China.

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the

country. Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets,

attracting countless visitors. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns

to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is

an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the

lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out

and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will

get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in

the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of

wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also

called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is

small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean

paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling.

Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s

more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning

reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the

family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern

dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and

beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent

lanterns, fireworks form a beautiful scene. Most families spare some fireworks

from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival. Some local

governments will even organize a fireworks party. On the night when the first

full moon enters the New Year, people become really intoxicated by the imposing

fireworks and bright moon in the sky.

I am at present a student at Mary High School, Hong Kong, where I have been studying for the past five years. I passed the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination last year with distinctions in English and History, and credits in Economics and English Literature. My advanced-level subjects are History, Economics and English Literature. Yesterday evening my colleagues held a birthday party for me, including John Liu---I think you can remember---a nice tall boy, who invited you and I to his birthday last October. ability that gives us power to deal with and overcome whatever hardship one is

confronted with. It is this kind of spirit that enables us to endure the

difficult moments and attain our goals.

The determined spirit gives us light when we are in dark moments and

encourages when we are frustrated. With this quality, no enemy can overwhelm us,

and noobstacles can stand in our way. There are many examples of success being

achieved solely through the strong will of the spirit. As in the picture, the

可在男生眼里，我又是一位“打人不眨眼的暴力女” 。因为我曾一巴掌把一个男生的被打出了一个红印子，那印子可不是一般的红啊!

这就是我，一个让你猜不透的小女生，一个独一无二的我。

几天没回老家，家就被一群不速之客占领了。这不，我正看着书呢，腿上就不知不觉多了个又红又肿的大包。起先我毫不在意，可没过一会儿，包就一个接一个出现。我开始挠，越痒越挠，越挠越痒，最后连皮都挠破了。我把书一丢，恼怒地站了起来，誓要把蚊子消灭干净!

我找来电蚊拍，在刚刚“流过血”的地方打响了第一枪，马上就听到电蚊拍发出的啪啪声，还伴着一股烧焦的气味，旗开得胜!可是得意没过一分钟，我便开心不起来了，那些蚊子好像知道我要来电它们，纷纷躲了起来，不管我怎么寻找怎么挥拍，就是逮不到一只。

我灰心了，垂头丧气地想要放弃，突然看见一旁的水桶里漂着几个黑黑的小点点，“会不会是蚊子?”我赶紧蹲下身，好奇地凑过去细看：真的是一窝蚊子，祖孙三代都在那里面呢!我以迅雷不及掩耳之速拿起“法宝”，想大展一番拳脚，发现水很满，电蚊拍无用武之地，怎么办呢?我想了一个办法：把电蚊拍横放在桶口，用手固定住，用脚轻轻踢着桶身，受不了震动的蚊子飞了起来，有的直接撞上电蚊拍死了，有的躲过一劫从缝隙里飞了出来，被我眼疾手快拍死了，最后，我把桶里的水统统倒掉，重新换上清水，这么一来，我把蚊子的老巢都端干净了。

我拿起书，重新坐在椅子上，大声说了一句：“终于消停啦!”

Humor is a flavor of our lives. Humor can soften relationship between

people; humor can adjust the atmosphere of different occasions; humor can bring

more fun and joy to our lives.

First, humor is very necessary in communicating with others because it can

soften relationship between people. In the process of getting along with others,

the occurrence of difference and contradiction is inevitable. Sometimes, when we

want to persuade others to agree with our points, we will find that our points

are easier to be accepted if we argue in a humorous tone.

Second, humor can adjust the atmosphere of different occasions. A person

having a good sense of humor is good at adjust the atmosphere. For example, in a

family, if the husband has a good sense humor, their family life would be more

harmonious because he can adjust the atmosphere in time to avoid the occurrence

of quarrel.

Finally, a person having a good sense of humor can bring fun and joy to

others. It is not difficult to find that a humorous person is always warmly

welcomed in any occasions because he can bring happiness to everywhere he goes.

In addition, staying with the humorous people, we will find that we will be more

positive and our lives will be more wonderful.

Therefore, all of us need to learn some skills of humor and use them

properly so that we can make our lives be more wonderful.
