"Beijing has maintained a super low birth rate - less than 1.3 children in a family in average - for nearly 20 years, posing increasing pressure on the countrys aging population," Hou Yafei, a professor with the institute, said.

Hou said that the top four factors that determined peoples intentions to have children were "income, child care, housing and policy conditions".

"The government should encourage couples from one-child families to have a second child and should provide better welfare services."

This would promote population sustainability, Hou said.

The survey also found that people with higher education backgrounds intend to have more children because they are more confident with their financial security.

River Pollution

Even the most developed countries are troubled with environmental issues. In fact, the more developed the country is, the severer the problem has. As a result, we may seek temporary economic development at the expense of the environment and resources. The consumption of natural resources has been a big problem. The environmental issue is getting worse almost every day in cities with very large population. As is often the case, city development outpaces environmental protection. People consume great amount of natural resources and produce wastes. To effectively address such problems, cities need to spend big money. In addition, they need to call to the attention of people to become more environmentally responsible.

Many people are becoming less responsible and easily influenced by bad behaviors. “Why should I care while others shouldn’t?” Such idea makes some people only concern with places where they live and work. Furthermore, people sometimes even purposely litter for revenge to other people.

To sum up, people produce huge amount of garbage and the environment is seriously polluted because of lack of financial resources, sense of responsibility, or efforts. But the world will not turn into a “throw away” society if people put in sufficient efforts to protect our environment

Because of the fiction movie 2012 which describes a horrible scene that the whole world was destroyed by earthquake, volcano and tsunami, the view of doomsday is making a great clamor. Mayans predicted December 21, 2012 is the end of the world and the sun of 22th will never rise again.

Though it is now seems that this prediction is just a nonsense without any scientific support, it did provoke peoples thinking about environment. In awake of the prediction, we cant help asking why this horrible prediction happen? I think one answer may be related to the environmental degradation.
