一天，我去公园里的小河边玩耍。一个小男孩要把一个刚喝完的瓶子扔到小河里。我看了，若无其事的边玩边说：“不管他，我还要玩呢。如果我去管他，我肯定就玩不成了。”可就在这时，一个正在钓鱼的老爷爷看到了小男孩的行为急忙伸出手阻止小男孩，并对小男孩说：“孩子别往小河里扔垃圾。”小男孩听了，放下瓶子满不在乎地对老爷爷说：“这有什么大不了的?再说了，这是一个瓶子，又不是垃圾。”老爷爷听了，并没有生气。笑着对小男孩说：“孩子，你不懂。你别看它是个瓶子，可它也会像其他垃圾那样污染水源。使我们喝不上干净的自来水。再说了，垃圾桶就在那边，走几步就到了。”小男孩听了老爷爷的话无言以对。他对老爷爷说了声“谢谢”，就朝垃圾桶那跑去。

我听了，心想：“没错。当我们要扔果皮屑的时候，往往会把这些垃圾随手扔到垃圾桶外边后，而置之不理。其实，只要你一伸手，便会扔到垃圾桶里。有时，你会把一些包装纸随手一扔，便一走了之。后来，你又说找不到垃圾桶。其实，垃圾桶就在几步之外。”这些小事，就能反映出一个人的道德品行和他是否热爱他身边的环境。

保护环境，是我们大家的事，每个人都要尽一份力。这样，才会使我们的家园更加绚丽多彩!

Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment。 There were few people on the earth， and natural resources seemed to be unlimited。Today things are different。 The world has bee too crowded。 We are using up our natural resources，and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals。 If we continue to do this， human life on earth will not survive。 We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea， there will soon be none left。 Yet，with modern fishing methods， more and more fish are caught。We know that if too many trees are cut down， forests will disappear。 Yet， we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees。 We see that if rivers are polluted with waste products， we will die。 Yet， waste products are still put into rivers。

We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate， in a few years， there won＇t be enough food。What can we do to solve these problems?If we eat more vegetables and less meat， there will be more food available。 Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals are kept。Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them。The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control。

我们明白，人口继续照此刻这个速度增长的话，不出几年，就会发生食物短缺。我们该如何解决这些问题呢?如果我们多吃蔬菜，少吃肉类的话，我们就会有更多的食物。因为同样大小的土地如果种庄稼的话会比养殖动物多养活五倍多的人。如果我们学会再利用的话，自然资源就能持续更久。如果人们使用现代化的生育控制方法，世界人口就不会增长如此迅猛。

Finally， if we educate people to think about the problems we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future。
