猫的眼球比人的短而圆些，视野角度比人眼更宽阔。猫的瞳孔可以随光线强弱而扩大或收闭，在强光下，猫眼的瞳孔可以收缩成一条线，而在黑暗中，猫的瞳孔可以张得又圆又大的。还有猫眼底有反射板，可将进入眼中的光线以两倍左右的亮度反射出来，所以，当猫在黑暗中瞳孔张得很开时，光线反射下猫眼好像会发出特有的绿光或金光，给人一种神秘的感觉。猫眼在外观的形状上大致可分为三种：圆形、倾斜形和杏仁形。

颜色基本上有绿色、金黄色、蓝色、灰色和古铜色等。不过，在这几类基本颜色之中还有不同程度的深浅区分。关于睡觉状态，猫咪在一天中有14～15小时在睡眠中度过，还有的猫，要睡20小时以上，所以猫就被称为“懒猫”。

但是，要仔细观察猫睡觉的样子就会发现，只要有点声响，猫的耳朵就会动，有人走近的话，猫就会腾地一下子醒来。本来猫是狩猎动物，为了能敏锐地感觉到外界的一切动静，它睡得不是很死，所以不应该称之为“懒”，因为猫只有4～5小时是真睡。但从小和人类呆惯的猫睡的比较死，睡的时间比较长。

猫的分类

猫科动物大约有35种，家猫主要是由埃及野猫进化而来的。猫科动物几乎生活在世界各地，从热带雨林到沙漠再到西伯利亚的冰天雪地，都是它们的家园

目前比较流行的猫的种类分法有四种：

1．西方品种和外来品种（包括暹罗猫、东方猫等）。
