The year of 2008 is getting closer and closer to us. We need to take actions from now on to prepare for the game. What we need to do most is to work on our disadvantages and shortcomings. The sky is gray instead of blue. To our delight, the government has passed some laws of protecting the air, and we can do something useful, too. For example, whenever we go out for a long distance, ride the bike or take the buses and subways instead of taxis. You may not have a clue how it works. Of course doing that only by one person is far from enough, but we can let more people do that together. In that case the result may be more than we bargained for.

Another thing we need to work on is our English skills. Teachers and parents often put great emphasis on our English skills especially listening and speaking. I want to be a volunteer in 2008, to be an interpreter. For now, I must do something helpful to improve my spoken English. Rome isn’t build in a day, so is English. It can’t be improved in a day or two. It takes time and energy. There are no shortcuts to improve your spoken English; the most productive way is to grab all opportunities around you to open your mouth. For instance, taking part in all kinds of English contests is a good way, you can meet some excellent contestants, and you can share the experience of learning and some good method of learning. I will keep participating in all English activities to polish up my English. I’m sure by the year of 2008, I will be able to master English well just as my mother tongue.

问号要用在一个直接的问句，而不是间接的。

如：How will you solve the problem? 是正确的用法，但用在I wonder how you will solve the problem?就不对了，应该使用句点而不是问号。

另外，在客气的用语中，也是用句点而不是问号。

二、句点

1.句点用于当一句话完全结束时。

三、感叹号

·快乐=物质/欲望。这是美国经济学家萨缪尔森提出的快乐方程式。从经济学的观点看，物质消费越大，欲望越小，快乐就越大，正应了中国人的一句古话“知足常乐”。反之，如果一个人的物质消费有限，而欲望无穷大，将会怎样呢?路瓦栽夫人有那么多“梦想”，又有那么多“陶醉”，她怎么能不痛苦、伤心呢?

The benefit of volunteering

As we all know, volunteering has a meaningful and positive impact on the community you serve and the people you help. In the meanwhile, it can have many benefits for you, too. In my opinion, there are two reasons to

volunteer: feel good about yourself while helping others; build your portfolio.

On one hand, volunteering makes you feel good about yourself on a purely selfish level. There are few things more satisfying than helping people. Hammering nails on a new home while the owner beams with pride right next to you is an amazing feeling. Walking or running to raise funds for a cause close to your heart helps to give you a sense of purpose and helps you realize just how lucky you are. As a volunteer, you will gain new perspective, for it’s so easy for us all to get a little too wrapped up in our own lives. On the other hand, from a professional standpoint, volunteering is a great way to add to your portfolio. From press releases to design pieces, from public speaking to fundraising,

you will have the opportunity to build your portfolio. This is especially beneficial for students or young professionals, although all of us should continually work on building our portfolios.

Apart from the benefits of building up your confidence and making your portfolio better, there are probably many other benefits you will find in your volunteer work. So it is time for you to participate in more volunteer work to help others as well as help yourselves.
