What Caused The Financial Crisis?

I think we can sum up the cause of our current economic crisis in one word — GREED.

Over the years, mortgage lenders were happy to lend money to people who couldn‘t afford their mortgages. But they did it anyway because there was nothing to lose. These lenders were able to charge higher interest rates and make more money on sub-prime loans. If the borrowers default,they simply seized the house and put it back on the market. The whole thing was one big scheme. Everything was great when houses were selling like hot cakes and their values go up every month. Lenders made it easier to borrow money,and the higher demand drove up house values. Higher house values means that lenders could lend out even bigger mortgages, and it also gave lenders some protection against foreclosures. All of this translates into more money for the lenders, insurers, and investors. Unfortunately, many borrowers got slammed when their adjustable mortgage finally adjusted. When too many of them couldn‘t afford to make their payments, it causes these lenders to suffer from liquidity issue and to sit on more foreclosures than they could sell. Mortgage-backed securities became more risky and worth less causing investment firms like Lehman Brothers to suffer.

Social Networking’s Influence on College Students

Social networking has gained huge worldwide popularity in recent years, especially among college students. In China, college student is the main force of social networking, 97.7% of which are fond of instant messaging and 80.7% prefer social networking sites like micro-blog and Q-zone (China Internet Network Information Center, 2013). Moreover, Michigan State University Original Study also finds that compared with Chinese students, American students are more tied to social media (2013). Therefore, nowadays there is a heated debate about advantages and disadvantages about social networking’s influence on college students.

Obviously, there are a number of positive features on social networking. It provides a convenient access to consolidate the relationship with people they know, make friends with strangers without restrictions of space and share happiness and sorrow. What’s more, social networking also has educational functions including reducing college drop-out rates, motivating students to work as a team, sending information about assignments, reminding students about deadline and stimulating students to help each other. However, every coin has two sides. There are also many disadvantages on the influence of social networking, among which, “soft addiction” is the most serious problem, distracting students from study. Because of lack of self-restriction, many students would waste plenty of time to search the social networking sites unconsciously, followed by a strong tendency to blame themselves (Li, 2013). This kind of “soft addiction” and distraction was also confirmed by Zhang (2011) who conducted a survey by questionare of 500 Chinese college students from different schools and found that 33% students could not bear one-week life without social networking and 77% students could not help themselves accessing social networking site during classes. Furthermore, a social experiment was performed by Harrisburg University (Pilkington, 2010) to figure out the effect after initiating blackout of all social networking sites. It turned out that some students became more concentrated on

the tutor and making notes instead of having instant messaging running in classes.

As far as I’m concerned, the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages, especially in China, where social networking is used for communication and entertainment and seldom plays the educational role (Li, 2011). The priority of a college student is to study hard instead of being addicted to social networking. Therefore, it is imperative for them to realize their “soft addiction” to social networking and correct their behavior.

About two weeks from now, college students will begin to enjoy their long summer holidays. Many are looking for odd jobs, of which tutoring is almost the most popular one.

These students say, by doing pan-time jobs, they can not only make some money for next terms tuition, but also enrich their holidays. They prefer to be tutors because this has more to do with what they have learned in class.

As a student, I myself have also been a tutor. But I didnt wait in line until I was chosen. I put up an advertisement with my school scripts attached. So, my suggestion to my fellow students is: be a tutor only when you are good at your courses.

回头看走过的路很长，向前看要走的路更长，成绩不少但不足更多，中国要建立成熟的现代化市场经济仍是任重道远。改革尚未到位的具体例子很多，在九成多物品价格由市场订出外，尚余少数项目(如能源)因定价失当，仍常困扰相关产业及总体经济的发展。宏观调控则仍须学会更好地解读形势，和用好市场调节手段。国有企业的政企分家仍未彻底，各级政府对市场的干预癖仍未清除，每过分热衷于“救市”。生产事故频发及最近的毒奶粉事件，又显示市场运行的法治基础，及政府管治、企业管理水平距离先进尚远。当然，这些都是发展中的问题，只有通过深化改革来逐步解决。无论如何，中国已闯出了具本国特色的发展之路，“中国模式”在国际上尤其第三世界中享有盛誉。

同时必须注意，中国的改革开放，又正面临新一轮巨大的挑战与机遇。美国的世纪金融危机愈演愈烈，散向全球的冲击波浪比浪高。在应付直接冲击上中国能力颇高：金融业有外汇管制及市场分隔的内外“防火墙”，而庞大的内需及内生发展动力，足可抗御外需放缓的影响。因此危机纵会带来困扰问题却不大，中国将成为环球风暴中少见的乐土、安全岛。

真正的挑战与机遇来自国际金融格局的大变：金融危机的后果正如最近德国财长所说，将是美国金融霸权的没落，和美元作为国际货币的独大地位的消减。欧美的全球金融经济核心角色将随之淡化，新兴经济加快冒起，尤其东亚的金融经济地位必日益重要。英美的自由放任金融模式已发展到终点，今后将要进行大改革，其金融领先优势自必大减。显然，这将给中国崛起带来了世纪机遇，必须好好把握。

然而这正是中国的最大挑战。中国的金融体系仍较脆弱，仍在走向世界的初阶，在“走出去”投资中(如入股黑石及富通等)已损失不菲。因此，如何算准到欧美捞底的时机，通过参与国际“救市”行动维护本国权益，和开拓符合国情并具中国特色的金融发展之路等，都将成为急须探索的新课题。总之，中国必须在改革开放及金融发展上，作更多的自主创新，只有这样才可真正成为经济及金融强国。

What are College Students Doing on the Internet

Nowadays surfing the Internet has become very popular on campus. I am impressed most that many college students spend too much time playing games and chatting on the Internet.

As is well known, chatting and playing and can do much harm to us if we spend too much time on the virtual world. Firstly, it is an enormous waste of time and we will have little time for our study. In recent years, college studentsfind it increasingly difficult toget a

job. It sounds strange since young college students are usually intelligent,

well-educated phenomenon, aspirant and eager to bring their talent into full

play. Then what underlies the strange phenomenon?

There are several reasons for this.To begin with, nowadays college students

aim too high. All they want are “good” jobs which could offer good salary,

comfortable working conditions, high social status among others. Consequently,

most college students are unwilling to accept vacant jobs they consider

not“good” enough. Another reason is thatthere is a big gap between the majors

some students study in school and the demands of vacant jobs. So companies think

some students are not fit for the jobs.

Solution to the problem requiresefforts on both the society and the

students. The companies should value the students, talent and knowledge while

the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-to–earth

in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so

as to improve themselves and be more competent.

Since the financial crisis swept the world, the global economy has sunk into a severe recession. It’s hard to get through a day without hearing or reading news about the devastating effects of the crisis: A world of companies go bankrupt, millions of employees are laid off, high-return investment bubbles burst, and huge sums of loans can never be retrieved. Its impact on our daily life can be felt in all walks of life。

College students inevitably fall victim to this pervasive slump as well. On top of that, internships and job vacancies are reduced to the minimum as companies keep shrinking. New graduates find themselves hard to get a job, not to speak of a satisfactory one. What comes next? Poor students will be hard-pressed if they find student loans unavailable any more. As a result, some even cannot afford to continue their studies. Lastly, more students are probably out there anxiously looking for part-time jobs now that they have to help cover their expenses in this gloomy economy. Their innocence and eagerness might be taken advantage of by some malicious businesspeople, or even criminal gang。

In response to these threats, we students must act promptly and wisely. Since we definitely will be facing a competitive job market, it’s crucial that we submit high quality resumes. Therefore, we must commit more to our professional studies. Even do better, master more relevant job skills as a double security. Furthermore, apply for scholarships and grants, as these are still available and we don’t have to pay them back. As for the safety issues, trust our instinct – there’s no free lunch in this world. Anything that promises quick returns without much work is a sure trap. Stay alert and protect ourselves。

As it is known, when we are in high school, we all have a constant goal that is to get the entrance to college, and hard work is out of question for the following. So we gain the notice to college finally which we often dream of in the nights, which proves a proverb that the god doesnt live up to someone who spends time and efforts, please memorize the sentence for good.

Of course one day we went to college in August or September happily and proudly, but at the same time something happened that it made your heart pounding fiercely, by the way, that is love for many college students. And then they miss the directions and their selves as well for their lives. Next I am to express that I am neutral for falling in love in college, however I have some ideas to illustrate of my own.

Firstly, if you are passers-by, I think we will find a lot about several couples of boyfriends and girlfriends under the dorms or dim corners or in the classes without anybody for close postures, as youngsters, it is normal without asking cause about that. Secondly, even worth mentioning is that many young boys and girls couldnt attend classes and courses instead of traveling to some sceneries and sight places or doing other things only to turn out them loved each other temporarily. Thirdly, especially to most of freshmen, please dont be influenced by the phenomenon that a number of students who finds anther half called by them selves proudly, because I think persons are different from each other, different characters, backgrounds and aims. But there is one point to obey if you actually want to have an attempt the feeling for love at first sight: it is , whenever you and I am, the learning and the work is the most principle rather than love is the first and work second, for we arent children and teenagers anymore, in the future society needs a comprehensive qualifications, profound and extensive knowledge persons, meanwhile in college you are in the state of half foot to society which time is a most important process to exercise and experience before stepping to complicated and complex society, and therefore we are supposed to spend much time in learning instead.
