People love to know that they’re helping the penguins because they’re so cute and small and they waddle up the beach and they’re so feisty. But they need to be they live in a pretty tough sort of environment.’

A thumbnail-sized patch of oil can kill little penguins the smallest of the species measuring just 13 inches (33cm) and weighing 2.2lbs (1kg). The oil separates and mats their feathers breaking natural waterproofing and heating functions.

Ms Blom estimates she has knitted between 200 and 300 penguin jumpers over the years including ones in the colours of every Australian Rules football team in the country.

A staff member read an article in an English women’s magazine about knitting for guillemot birds and decided to adapt the designs.

‘There’s an awful lot of ladies out there who used to knit for their children and grandchildren. These ladies have spare wool and idle hands and they love to feel loved and needed and we love and need them’ said Ms Blom.

一滩指甲盖大小的石油就足以杀死一只小企鹅。最小的企鹅大概只有13英寸(33厘米)长，体重2.2磅(1千克)。石油会使得它们的羽毛缠结在一起且分散开，这样羽毛就失去了防水和保温的作用。

布洛姆自己就织了大约两到三百件毛衣，她还制作了一个毛衣系列，采用的是澳大利亚所有足球队的代表颜色。

之所以采用毛衣，是因为基金会的一名员工在一本女性杂志上看到了一篇给海鸟织毛衣的文章，随后就决定模仿这一设计。

布洛姆说：“许多女性朋友为自己的孩子织毛衣，她们乐意帮助我们，也会提供多余的毛线和手工，她们喜欢这种被爱被需要的感觉。基金会也非常感谢和需要她们。”

最近，企鹅基金会举办了一场“最具创意毛衣”大赛，获得了不错的反响。

每年，企鹅基金会拯救的企鹅大约在20只。他们甚至还有毛衣储备以应对紧急情况，比如2001年菲利普岛附近的大规模石油泄露事件。

那次事件中，453只企鹅受到了影响，当中96%的企鹅获救——最大的功臣就是毛衣了。

我今天是特意去看我国的国宝大熊猫。大熊猫主要分布在我国的四川、甘肃、陕西地区。人工饲养的小大熊猫主要吃些嫩竹、苹果、牛奶、面包等。8个月以后就特别爱吃、竹子、竹笋。一走进竹博园就看见用竹子编成的凤凰。漂亮极了。沿着园内弯弯曲曲的小路终于走到熊猫馆。

首先，映入眼帘的是一只憨态可拘的熊猫躺在一个人工搭建的环境里，站在围栏外，放眼望去，熊猫的身子胖胖的，尾巴很短、皮毛光滑像黑色的绸缎。头和身体是白色的，头上长着一对毛茸茸的黑耳朵。两个圆圆的黑眼眶就像戴了一副大墨镜。我听爸爸说熊猫小时候特别活泼、很爱动，整天爬上爬下，可是长大后就特别懒。常常用爪子抱着头呼呼大睡，饿的时候才摆动着胖乎乎的身体找东西吃。熊猫是我国一级保护动物，只有我们中国才有且数量很少。

我希望它们在人类的保护下繁殖的越来越多，让全世界的小朋友都能和我一样，近距离的和大熊猫嬉戏、玩耍看它可爱的样子。 小朋友，大家都知道熊猫是一种可爱的动物，可是对它的习性，有的小朋友就不一定完全知道了。为揭开这个迷，最近我特意对它作了一次观察。

熊猫是一种很珍贵的动物，很惹人喜爱。它四肢较短，行动缓慢，毛茸茸的面孔上有一对乌黑发亮的眼睛，在加上一身墨黑墨黑的毛，更显得美丽、可爱。 熊猫喜欢在平坦的地面上悠闲地散步，愉快的玩耍。有时抬头望望人们，有时却低着头，好像在寻找什么，有像在思索着什么。当它高兴的时候，就在地上翻跟头，像只大皮球在地上滚动。 凶猛睡觉的时候，腹部朝天。有时，它用前爪轻轻的拍着肚子。

熊猫吃东西时，常常直着身子盘腿而坐，前爪抓住鲜嫩的竹叶往嘴里送，它爱吃鲜嫩的竹叶、竹茎，还有牛奶和鸡蛋。 熊猫吃饱了，还得喝喝口水润润喉咙。它来到水池边，伏下身子，双手靠着池边，低下头，咕噜咕噜的喝起来。看它那副模样，真使人发笑。

熊猫是世界上的珍贵动物，是动物园中的宠儿。它的一举一动，给成千上万的游人增添了乐趣。 我是一只珍贵的大熊猫，名叫龙腾。在六一儿童节期间，应衡阳市小朋友的邀请，来到衡阳市动物园，与小朋友们一起欢度六一儿童节。

I think reading as the most rewarding entertainment activities in my spare time.

Not only does reading provide me with a wide range of knowledge, it also broaden my mind towards the world. Different sorts of books contain various thoughts of life, work, relationships and cultures. When reading a novel, I can experience joys and tears of the characters through one story after another. When it comes to a biography ,I can even speak to the great person as if he stood towards me. Don’t always regard reading as tools to prepare for exams or show off how knowledgeable the person is.

A true reader is the person who shows knowledge naturally while communicate with others. Reading indeed has an important impact on people’s behavior, which is the reason why I will never give it up.

Air travel makes some people very nervous. The crowds, the noise and flying itself can causeunease. But there are classes people can take to help them defeat the fear of flying. And, nowCaty Weaver tells us about similar training for service dogs that suffer the same problem.

Service dogs almost never leave the side of the people they care for. You will see them workingon buses, trains and other public transport systems. But the busy environment found at anairport can trouble even the best trained working dog.

People with disabilities depend on their dogs. They want the animals to safely guide themthrough security areas. They also need to the dogs to remain calmly on duty on the airplane,even when the flying is not smooth. This takes special training. The Air Hollywood K9 FlightSchool is one place where such help can be found.

The school has a piece of equipment that provides the sights, sounds and even the feel of anairplane in flight. It is called a flight simulator. The simulator was built for filming airplanescenes in movies.

Sandy Alexander lives in Newport Beach, California. He has a disability that requires his two-year-old dog, Doc, to be always at his side. Mr. Alexander took the dog to the flight school toget him ready for plane trips. He says Doc did not like the bumpy part of the flight simulation.

"When that started he was pretty agitated and looked up at me and wasnt sure what wasgoing on, and I think we are going to be prepared the next time it happens."

Dog trainer Mary Segall is with Canine Companions for Independence. It provides dogs forpeople with disabilities. Ms. Segall says successful training is based on a simple rule:preparation.

"Dogs need to be exposed gradually and repetitively to stimulation, to the environment, toloud noises, to sounds and other dogs so that when this experience happens to them on adaily basis, theyre able to act in a way that theyre used to acting and that they dont getexcitable."

Stacy Huckebas nine-month-old dog, Striker, is still in training to be a guide dog.

"I dont fly a lot so I dont know a lot, but, so I dont know the routine myself. So with a dog Iwould have been lost."

Dog owners who attended the training at Air Hollywood K9 Flight School say they now feelmuch more at ease about future flights. Their dogs also seem ready for takeoff.
