My father, Winston Churchill, began his love affair with painting in his 40s, amid disastrous circumstances. As First Lord of the Admiralty in 1915, he was deeply involved in a campaign in the Dardanelles that could have shortened the course of a bloody world war. But when the mission failed, with great loss of life, Churchill paid the price, both publicly and privately. He was removed from the admiralty and effectively sidelined.

Overwhelmed by the catastrophe — “I thought he would die of grief,” said his wife, Clementine —he retired with his family to Hoe Farm, a country retreat in Surrey. There, as Churchill later recalled, “The muse of painting came to my rescue!”

Wandering in the garden one day, he chanced upon his sister-in-law sketching with watercolors. He watched her for a few minutes, then borrowed her brush and tried his hand. The muse had cast her spell!

Churchill soon decided to experiment with oils. Delighted with this distraction from his dark broodings, Clementine rushed off to buy whatever paints she could find.

For Churchill, however, the next step seemed difficult as he contemplated with unaccustomed nervousness the blameless whiteness of a new canvas. He started with the sky and later described how “very gingerly I mixed a little blue paint on the palette, and then with infinite precaution made a mark about as big as a bean upon the affronted snow-white shield. At that moment the sound of a motor car was heard in the drive. From this chariot stepped the gifted wife of Sir John Lavery .”

“ ‘Painting!’ she declared. ‘But what are you hesitating about? Let me have the brush — the big one.’ Splash into the turpentine, wallop into the blue and the white, frantic flourish on the palette, and then several fierce strokes and slashes of blue on the absolutely cowering canvas.”

At that time, John Lavery— a Churchill neighbor and celebrated painter— was tutoring Churchill in his art. Later, Lavery said of his unusual pupil: “Had he chosen painting instead of statesmanship, I believe he would have been a great master with the brush.”

In painting, Churchill had discovered a companion with whom he was to walk for the greater part of the years that remained to him. After the war, painting would offer deep solace when, in 1921, the death of the mother was followed two months later by the loss of his and Clementine’s beloved three-year-old daughter, Marigold. Battered by grief, Winston took refuge at the home of friends in Scotland, finding comfort in his painting. He wrote to Clementine: “I went out and painted a beautiful river in the afternoon light with crimson and golden hills in the background. Alas I keep feeling the hurt of the Duckadilly (Marigold’s pet name).”

Historians have called the decade after 1929, when the Conservative government fell and Winston was out of office, his wilderness years. Politically he may have been wandering in barren places, a lonely fighter trying to awaken Britain to the menace of Hitler, but artistically that wilderness bore abundant fruit. During these years he often painted in the South of France. Of the 500-odd canvases extant, roughly 250 date from 1930 to 1939.

Painting remained a joy to Churchill to the end of his life. “Happy are the painters,” he had written in his book Painting as a Pastime, “ for they shall not be lonely. Light and color, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end of the day.” And so it was for my father.

春天，春意盎然，所有的植物和动物都开始了新的一年，变得生机勃勃起来了；夏天，烈日蒸熬，太阳高高地挂在天空，如同流星正坠落地时候突然间停在那里，又好像一位会隐身的大力士高高地举起了它，就是因为那火辣辣的太阳，所有的树木都变得枝繁叶茂起来；秋天，秋高气爽，是人们丰收的季节；冬天，冰天雪地，是人们打雪仗，堆雪人的时候，也是人们最快乐的时候。下面就让我具体描述一下我最喜欢的季节——秋天。初秋的时候，秋高气爽，最适合去散步，因为散步的时候可以使我们达心气和，依然自得，同时又有一种凉爽的感觉，这时候，你所有得烦恼也都一扫而空啦。并且所有的果实都挂着香喷喷的果实，如苹果树上挂着又大又红的苹果；梨树上挂着黄澄澄的鸭梨，如果让我在往后加两个字，那我就会改成鸭梨山大；桃树上挂着我喜欢吃的桃子，一说就想吃了，嘿嘿！早秋我就不说了。深秋，是我们收获果实的天气，我迫不及待地跑到家长们面前，亲求他们给我一个大桃子。他们边给我边说你呀，正是个小馋猫！说完我们变笑了起来。

这就是我喜欢的秋天！你们喜欢吗？

冬天，是我最喜欢的季节，在一季一季过后，迎来了满天飞雪，有着纯洁气息的冬季。虽然，在冬天的冷风中走着，会凉风刺骨，但我还是喜欢它，喜欢它穿上的新衣——雪。

有人说秋收冬藏，是最能让人欢喜沉淀心情的。秋天的丰收见证努力的付出，冬天中的躲藏是积蓄力量，大地之间渐渐变冷。万物开始躲藏，这就是冬天的特点。

冬天的风，不像春风般温柔，像母亲的手抚摸着你，而是像凛冽的利刃，有着冰冷和锋利。

冬天的雪，是我最喜欢的，它洁白，有着贵族的气质，十分清冷而高贵，让人有一种危险的感觉，但它也十分娇羞，你伸手去触碰它，它就会十分羞涩的消失在你的手中。这冬天的雪，可算是，让那些天真无邪的孩子们有了许多的欢声笑语。

冬天里，大人们都会因为天气太过寒冷刺骨，而一直宅在家里。可孩子们不会，他们可是最期待在雪地里玩耍，当然，我也不例外。我们会在雪地里打雪仗，堆雪人，各种游戏，会让我们忘记那雪是多么的冰冷。

在白雪皑皑的冬天后，就是春天了，气温会渐渐暖起来，万物都在苏醒，小草也会从那厚厚地雪堆中探出了头，柳树也会抽出它那细长的枝条，人们醉心于春日的生机与希望，却忽视了这些都是冬日的酝酿与沉淀的结果，这样默无言语地积聚力量。

可是，我还是喜欢冬天。

因为冬天的雪，虽然高冷、高贵，但也十分的纯洁。

因为冬天的我们，虽然感到很冷，但也让我们感到快乐。

因为冬天的过去，会迎来无限生机。

When cellphone became popular many years ago, parents and school at first

banned students to take cellphone into classroom, but now, even the small child

has owned a cellphone. The use of cellphone cant be banned. For students, they

get used to keeping cellphone at hand, but the overuse of it can be blamed to

their parents. Some parents dont set good examples for their children. When

they are together, they just leave cellphones to kids and let them kill the

time. If they show the beautiful scenery around and teach kids to appreciate the

world. Then cellphone wont take up their time.

Nowadays, some students don’t help their parents do housework at home.

Some parents love their children too much and don’t let them work at home. On one hand, they think that their children are too busy with their studies and expect them to do well in their lessons only. On the other hand, they think their children don’t know how to do the housework.

However, I think students should help their parents do housework at home. First, that can develop their love for work. Next, that can help them understand their parents better. Last and the most important, that can help them cultivate their ability to live.

周末放假的时候，我做完作业，爷爷带我下楼到小区里骑车。忽然，我在楼前的小广场西边看到两棵粉中带红的垂丝海棠正在悄悄开放。我数着上面的花骨朵儿，告诉自己，盼望已久的春天终于来了。

我喜爱春天，因为春天美丽无比。很多的花儿醒来了，她们争相开放。我喜爱春天，因为春天带来了温暖，我们就可以脱掉厚厚的棉衣，换上轻盈的春装，自由自在地在公园里奔跑。我喜爱春天，因为春天有我喜欢吃的春笋。春天的雨后，春笋冒出了头，我可不只是一个小馋嘴，我还是爷爷挖春笋的小帮手。每次挖的满头大汗，可一想到在锅里有好吃的春笋，也就不觉得累了。我喜爱春天，因为春天可以放风筝。放假的时候，我和爸爸妈妈去森林公园放风筝。我拿着风筝，爸爸拿着风筝线盘。我数完“一”、“二”、“三”，就放开风筝。爸爸向前跑啊跑啊，风筝就飞起来了，飞得很高很高，比天空中的鸟儿还要高。

这就是我最喜爱的季节—春天。

有人说：“我喜欢春天，因为春天的景色很美；”有人说：“我喜欢夏天，因为夏天可以游泳；”有人说：“我喜欢冬天，因为冬天可以堆雪人；”但是我想说：“我最喜欢的季节是凉爽的秋天，秋天是个好季节！”

秋天是个好季节，秋天的色彩很美丽，树上的银杏叶像翩翩起舞的小蝴蝶，枫叶拍着它可爱的小手，小手都拍红了，好像在说：“秋天来了！”菊花有各种各样的，有红、白、黄、粉，美丽极了！

秋天是个好季节，天气非常的好，小朋友们都拿着他们的小风筝放来放去，蓝蓝的天空像一面镜子一样，柔软的云朵像会飞的小绵羊一样，飞上了天空。

秋天是个好季节，树上的果实结得非常多，很多人都去摘果子，有人爬上梯子说：“你们看这苹果多大呀！”有人拿着袋子，里面装着很多水果，那个人说：“你看我的苹果又大又红，多好！”

树上的果子有很多，有葡萄，桃子。葡萄像紫色的宝石，桃子像小孩子粉红粉红的脸蛋儿。

小朋友们喜欢秋天是因为可以放风筝，大人喜欢秋天是因为可以吃到很多的果子，我想说：“秋天真是个好季节！”

还记得吗？初次见面的你脾气真的燥！一路狂奔地像脱缰的藏獒，血盆大口地迎面扑来，硬是张牙舞爪，东拉西扯，小到操场边的新草，少有的蒲公英，紧紧抱着树干的藤条，还是粗壮的树冠连着树的碎发……胡乱地这翻那闹，蛮不讲理。一阵阵狂乱的折腾后，留下的，只是漫天的尘沙，或是坚强光顶的树冠，或是路上无力挣扎倒地的树干……

兴许是累了，但终于是静了。

一个不完整的秋夜后，你，又来了。小心翼翼地顶着脚尖，轻轻地蹲在石路旁，看着初升太阳照耀下波光粼粼的残叶，还有黄澄澄的碎花瓣，带着一丝暖意，抚动着身旁蜷着身子的一点点含羞草，脚边哆嗦的野草的断茎，脱了翅膀的可怜虫，还没有忘记丧着脸的树冠。你手指尖下的石头旁冒出的绿芽，还有洋洋洒洒的红点，黄点和白点伏起，轻轻地跟着你，飘在突破蒙蒙白沙的暖阳底下，一起静静的看着，这美好的家。

星星点点的花并没有立刻停下，我看见了，你带着它们钻到几片垃圾桶旁的枯黄的芭蕉叶下，呼呼的轻声伴着一点细沙碰撞的脆响，还有你们碎碎的笑声，嘻嘻嗦嗦地传入天台的那盆矮小的白菊，稚嫩的花瓣轻轻地飘动，对着你问好。慢慢地校门口开始有了一个早起顽皮的小男孩，踢着一个脏兮兮的小黑球，然后突然一下子往前踢，等着你把球传过来。脸上的汗粒一动一动地，静静地等着。

晨曦暖洋洋照在他们幸福的脸上。

当太阳高点的时候，总会有一群溜出来打闹的小学生，背着老师，跟在你的身后去找一点残留在草堆里秋天的小花。那是一种快乐的花，它有太阳的颜色，一直牵连着你们的枝干，那是甜的，沁人心脾的甜。然后，你身后傻笑的孩子们，轻盈的菊花瓣，一点点的蒲公英，和星星点点绿的芽……往教师桌下窜，树桩下钻，一直一直闹到天晚。

窗外，又响起了一片春雨声。自那天起，这已是第四次了，但在我心中，真正的春雨只下过一次，在那个属于我的季节中，不断地被回放。

“哗！”，打开一把白雨伞，从车中出来，我走入这绵绵的春雨之中。柔柔的春雨一次次地轻拂着我那曾被眼泪浸湿的面庞，现在，即使早已风干，徒留泪痕，眼中的悲痛却迟迟未散……

那是个下着雨的早晨，我匆匆地冲进校门，汗水和着雨水在我眉毛上闹着，不时凝在其上，却又在激烈的震动中从鬓角落下。奔上楼梯，步伐越来越快，脚面开始变烫。突然，拐角的楼梯上转出一个人影，我赶忙刹住脚步，那人也转过身来。“老师？怎……怎么是您？”那熟悉的长发，闪光的眼睛，没错，正是我们的语文老师，“虞老师早上好！”后知后觉，我赶紧问好。可是老师没有说话，只是笑了笑，便飞快地奔上楼去。我的耳畔中，仿佛回荡起一声轻微的哽咽，地上，也留下了一串晶莹的泪珠。我带着疑惑跑回教室，教室中，一片死寂，所有人都僵硬地坐着，没有打闹，也没有人说话，这紧张的气氛让我不敢打扰。第一节是语文课，可是虞老师却出乎意料地迟迟没有到来。我回想起老师那双微微发红的眼睛，她的长发仿佛白了好几根，忧郁的面庞又多添了几道皱纹，心头一阵悸动。正当我思绪连连之际，门突然开了，数学李老师走了进来：“虞老师有事，我替她来上课。”李老师在讲完话后，眼睛立刻看向了地面。听了这话，我多半放下了点担心，可也是因为李老师这不自然的动作，我已经确定是虞老师出了什么事了。

数学课要接近尾声了，我失神地看向窗外，天不阴，但这春雨还在下，在我眼中是茫茫一片，每条雨丝都像一根针，扎得我的心是那么痛。刮过一阵风，越来越密的雨，愈来愈阴的天，一下下地撕扯着我那颗支离破碎的心。

突然，雨中传来什么声音，不像是雨声，更像是一阵阵的掌声。下课铃在那一刻响起，我以最快的速度冲出了教室，想要一探究竟。

我顺着声音来到校门口，不知什么时候这里铺了一张红地毯。校领导们站在两旁，校长追着一个人奔向校门，想让她待在雨伞下，可她总是一次次的躲开。我一脸不解，直到，我看清了那张脸——虞老师！那个身影在走进车门的一刹那，暮然回首，看向我的方向。不知怎得，一股热泪从眼眶中奔涌而出，尽管我不信地擦着，可它，就是不停……

那是我与老师见过的最后一面，听说，她是回总校去了。虽然她不肯，可是毕竟只是一位老师，她也无能为力。虽然她的身影不断地开始模糊，但那张春雨中的脸，却从未消散过。

春雨哗哗地下，泪水又情不自禁嗒嗒地落下，那和蔼的面庞，又在眼前浮现，那最后一个春雨绵绵的日子，已经永远地过去，那个属于我的季节，也永远，停留在了这一刻……

Today, I experienced the most irritating traffic jam ever in my life. My

father was driving me to watch a movie with my friends from high school, who I

have not seen since graduation. I was hoping to have a wonderful re-union with

them. However, our car was stuck in the middle of ____ road because two drivers

were fighting and their cars blocked the way. Even with the help from local

policeman, the road was not clear until one hour later. As a result, I missed

the entire movie and apologized to my friends.

时间的齿轮转动不停，四季轮回，这是亘古不变的规律。而这轮回之间不停过渡着终极与初始的季节就是冬。

冬是坚强的。即使是在寒风凛冽中的残垣绝壁上，或许还坚持着一颗枯草，在默默承受着北风的侵袭。它是新一年春草的希望，即使它是那么渺小，那么脆弱，那么不起眼，它却是坚强的。“岁寒三友”中的梅就正是寒冬中的迎风而立的标志，它是辽阔无垠的白雪中独树一帜的一抹红色。她那么孤单，那么骄傲，那么执着，当然也同样有着坚强。

冬是美丽的。她虽没有春的生机勃勃，没有夏的欣欣向荣，没有秋的华丽多彩，但她的单纯无暇无疑是最美好的品质。她直率天真，从不做作，开心时，阳光虽冷，却铺满大地；沉默时，天空虽宽，却灰暗阴沉；悲伤时，白雪虽美，却覆盖河川……

冬是单调的。天，是暗灰暗灰的，仿佛是那秋的澄澈一夜间便沉淀下来了。雪，是粉白的，阳光照在上面，会有淡淡的粉色在雪花上跳跃。阳光时常也是一样射出雪白的亮光，好像因为有了他的照耀，地上的所有的一切都会变成白色的一样。房顶的的确确都因为下雪的缘故变成白色的了，路旁聊以卒岁的枯树枝丫叉于晴朗的天空中，一切都展现出它们及其安详的一面。整个城市的繁忙似乎还没有停，只是变得安静可爱了许多。路上往来屑屑的人们都在忙碌着些什么，匆匆的走过来走过去，没有人愿意停下来，哪怕是欣赏一小会儿这美丽的冬天。如果这是你突然在人群中停住脚步，反而会感到杂乱不已。

冬天，当然，是寒冷的。在你开心的时候，无所谓她有多冷，都感觉冬日的风依然凉爽；在你伤心的时候，或许你会感觉她真的很冷，冷的钻心刻骨，又或许你会感觉到她的温暖，她在抚摸着你的背，吹拂着你的脸颊，抚慰你受伤的心灵。她的冷，主要是因为有那层层叠加的凛冽的北风，时不时从你耳边飞过，使人想要用帽子、手套、围巾把自己紧紧的包裹起来，来防御这寒风的袭击。冬天里的风当然不会使人感受到春风的温暖，夏风的凉爽，秋风的清凉，她永远不会使你感到舒适。这却又是她一枝独秀的个性，真诚而又直率，她不像是你最好的朋友吗？

冬，坚强的冬，简单的冬，美丽的冬，寒冷、单调的冬。她像是诚恳并直率的友人，她像是单纯又可爱的孩子，她像是严厉又可敬的长者，只要你愿意去欣赏她，她便可以成为一个了解你的季节朋友。即使是在寒风中，我们也不要忘记，身旁还有一个这样的朋友。有一点闲暇的时候，请停驻在原地，抬头仰望天空，说不定她会开始变得晴朗；抬头正视前方，寒风也会变得轻缓；仔细看看路旁的树，或许已经冒出新芽。
