This year summer vacation, I read the American well-known writer Hemingways novel “ old person and sea ”。 I extremely admire in the novel the senior fishermans will, he let me understand one person certainly must have relentless spirit, only then could obtain successfully.

The novel description is one year near sixty years of age senior fisherman, when alone goes to sea in one fishing, fished one big fish, actually did not pull. The senior fisherman socialized several days after the fish, only then discovered this was the big marlin which one surpassed the oneself fishing boat several fold, although knew perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up. Afterwards and further because in the big marlin wound fish fishy smell brought in several crowds of shark fish snatches the food, but the old person still did not hope like this to give up, finally highlighted encircles tightly, returned to the big fish belt the fishing port, lets other fishermen not admire already.

When I read “ the senior fisherman think: Here to the seacoast really was too near, perhaps could have a bigger fish in a farther place… ” When, I extremely admire this senior fisherman, because he by now already projected on some fish, but he had not settled to the present situation, but was approaches the bigger goal advance. Again has a look us, usually meets one slightly is difficult, we all complain incessantly. We will be the motherland future, will be supposed to like this old person same mind lofty aspiration, will even better pursue even better, the bigger goal.

When I read “ the big marlin start fast to gather round the young fishing boat hover, twined the cable on the mast, the old person right hand lifted up high the steel fork, leapt the water surface in it the flash, did utmost throws to its heart, one wail ended the big fishs life, it was static static floats on the water surface… ” When, my heart also liked together the big stone falls. I extremely admire old person that kind do not dread, the relentless spirit, although knows the match strength is very strong, but he not slightly flinches, but is welcomes difficultly above. Just because had this kind of spirit, the senior fisherman only then achieved this life and death contest success. We also must study senior fishermans spirit in life, handles the matter does not fear the difficulty, only then can obtain successfully.

Pride and Prejudice is a chefdoeuvre. But my first impression of this story was from screen.

Its long long ago, maybe before I can read english books. I dont remember which movie edition I had seen. But I was impressed by the music, the scenery and the costume. I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. Its pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the heroine, though I didnt think shes beautiful. But shes smart. However, I didnt pay much attention to the plot. I thought its so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I havent read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice.

In fact, I didnt understand the story at that time. I didnt know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didnt find where s the prejudice. I thought its normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it. Im a prejudiced person so I cant find wheres wrong. I merely like to do the things I like. Everytime I meet somebody or something,my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time. I like it so just like it, if not so just not. Im a person thinking by heart not by brain. What is worse, I actually didnt think its wrong. I thought everyone is all like that.Everyone has his special way to cognize the world. So its individuality, not prejudice. But I think something is wrong. Though everyone can judge in the way he likes, he cant ignore other ones. You can like what you like and hate what you hate, but you should be objective when you meet external world. I think it means that you should consider things roundly, not just partial. Individuality is different from prejudice. What is it? I need to think more.

Bunyan once in his book named Pilgrim’s Process described a place named ‘Vanity Fair’ where all kinds of vanity are sold, such as houses, lands, honors, preferments, titles, lusts, pleasures and delights of all sorts. As a matter of fact, we are living in such place today. We gradually become the participants of this fair and loyal followers of these hollow things. Espencially our modern grils’ changing view toward marriage, money and social status. They believe that they could easily live a life like a grand lady without making any efforts if they marry a wealthy man. As female college students, how to stick to our own belief and aviod being assimilated by the complex society, Thackeray’s novel Vanity Fair could give us a good instruction. Through the Rebacca’s attitude towards money, social status and marriage, I realize what is most important thing for a female.

Thackeray described the life of ruling classes of England in the early decades of the 19th century, and attacked the social relationship of bourgeois world by satirizing the individuals in the different strata of the upper society. Rebacca(becky) Sharp is a classic example of the money-grubbing instinct. Her only aspiration in life is to gain wealth and position by any means. Thackeray does not regard Rebacca as an exception. Everyone wishes to gain something in the Vanity Fair and acts almost in the same manner as Rebacca.

As an orphan, Rebacca’s birth can easily win our tears. It is an undenible fact that she is quite an ambitious and clever girl. As far as I am concerned, she could easily live a decent life with her own hand. However, because of the society and the innate deficits in her characteristics, she becomes very sophisticate and even tried to suduce her best friend’s brother so that she could win her place in the upper society and other’s admiration. However, for the people in the upper class, Rebacca’s humble birth cuold never be erased even though she married a rich man. In other’s eye, she was just a coquette who was quite good at suducing rich men. Why not use your own hand to create a bright future and win others’ true respect instead of relying on the man’s shoulder.

Rebacca liveed in a society which is ruled by money, everyone was crazy about money, Rebacca was no exception. She held the dream of living a life of a grand lady, wearing luxurious clothes and shining dimonds. In order to realize her dream, she used all kinds of immoral means to win the love of rich men. Finally, she got married with Rawdon Crawley, a good man who will inherit a large sum of money from her ant. However, the old lady refused because Crawley married Rebacca---a woman of low social status. Rebacca and her husband live a quite luxurious life in Pairs even though they could not make the both ends meet. Finally, Mr.Crawley was put in to prison because of heavy debets, while Rebacca started searching for another rich man who can pay for her luxurious bills. Rebacca betrayed her soul in the process of pursuiting money and gradually forgot the meaning of love.

Marriage is a holy thing in everyone’s life, but if you regard marriage as a good method of gaining money and improving your social status, you will suffer a lot from it. Although you live a decent life and gain other’s admiration, you may never be ture happy because you never know what is love and responsibilty. Rebacca’s marriage is a good example. She took a quite easy attitude towords marriage. Her marriage was just a method which helped her get in to the upper class and live a rich life. Ther is no wonder that she was so cruel to her husband and flirted with another rich man when her husband was in the prison. Here I want to mention another female----Amelia, a girl of simple mind. In Rebacca’s mind she was a fool. At first, she held the same view as Rebacca. Her husband’s death in the war made her become a sorrowful widow. Till one day Rebacca told her that her husband once asked Rebaccato run with him. Amelia was angry and married a man who has taken care of her for several years uncomplainly. Amelia is not a cold hearted women, although her dream of being a grand lady had vanished, but she experienced a life of being truly loved. While for Rebacca, she will forever lived in the Vanity Fair and never has the chance to experience this kind of love. In my eye , Amelia is wiser than her.

Rebacca is a tragic female during that period. Although this novel ended with a happy ending--- Rebacca got marriad with Amelia’s brother and inherited a large sum of money, liveed a grand lady’s life ---who dare to say that Rebacca will stop betraying her soul and keep away from Vanity Fair? I would like to give an advice to her and to the grils in our modern society: please keep always from Vanity, and take a correct attitude towards money, social status and marriage. Money is not every in our life. The improvement of our social status needs our own efforts instead of relying on others. Mrriage is a holly thing in our girls’ life, which requires our responsibility and loyalty. Or we will forever live in a hollow world and the dream of vanity will finally destory us.

Western literature has no equivalent to The journey to the West. Imagine Dante mixed with Kabala, and peopled by Daniel Boone, Mother Teresa and Wile E. Coyote. This sixteenth-century epic is both one of the half-dozen most venerated works in classical Chinese literature and a staple of popular culture. Its ubiquitous characters and stories appear in comic books, advertisements, even postage stamps. It is, simultaneously, a dragons-and-demons adventure, an allegory of self-mastery, a political satire, an anthology of rich, symbolic poetry, and an esoteric alchemical recipe book. Its picaresque, fantastical, wise. And hilarious.

"Notre Dame de Paris"  is one known far and wide romantic faction strength which Victor Hugo writes . I take advantage of this summer vacation free time, read this great work.

Notre Dame cathedrals story, actually was one at that time social epic poem, since brimmed with really. Friendly. Beautiful, also the flow selfish desire and is false. Regardless of is good beautiful Asmelada ,or has the ugly semblance, Cacimodo with one pure mind, they represent the great amount the lower level populace which suppresses; Perhaps is sinister Coloud, he is appears by the theocracy face, all load bearing one kind of authors ponder. The author in this work, for with the clown, was beautifully friendly and wickedly does the best annotation, or take above three people as the example, the rebel Asmelada has the beautiful semblance and the chaste good mind, as well as pitiful destiny, but Cacimodo, he withstood destiny deceive nicely, the innermost feelings is his misery is graver, but Coloud maintained the benighted social rights and interests, he had brutally. Was palatial Notre Dame cathedral, how many world tragedy testimony once, in Hugo the novel, he as if had the life breath, he sheltered Asmelada ,exposed Coloud the crime, regret the populace attack the magnificent feat which dark actually heroically devoted……

Another the question which is worth pondering is: Who is the hero? Asmelada or Cacimodo? I think all is not, but is in the article by the Louis 11 rank smell of blood suppression rather for sacreficed the populace gate, Asmelada with Cacimodo is not in them the representative, Asmelada is loves with the beautiful symbol, Cacimodo not many represents is unfortunate and the pain. They are in middle ages France, despotism sacrificial victim.

The entire story rich tragic color, the plot intense is moving, exciting. Author Hugo through " Notre Dame cathedral " this story, but also disclosed at that time the dark societys essence to the people. This fascinating story likes that Ccimodo clocks sound equally shocks several generation of readers minds.

The 19 th-century French writer "Notre Dame DE Paris" describes how the heroine grew up into a bell, and being abused...

While another hero esmeralda beauty unsurpassed, pure good, good, she and her brilliant kid is give a person with infinite daydream in the whole novel the romance of luminescent spot, is the embodiment of beauty and freedom, but in the asceticism in the s, such as a flower of beautiful life is in the middle ages the lamentable to collapse too.

Life is like a piano, someone pops up on the keys in the spring of hope, shade in the summer, the autumn harvest, the joy of winter, which made us read the two characters together again with misfortunes.

Life the good teacher every day with you, with you, you just havent found.

"One hundred years of solitude" is known as "Latin American history of literature in the vision of the society". It is the representative work of gabriel Garcia marquez, is the representative work of Latin American magic realism literature. After reading, the book morbid alone, for a variety of abnormal personality, floating in my around, for a long time not to go.

The characters in the book, Mr ASHLEY boone, emperor, this is a diligent, pragmatic, creative people. But because hes fascination with science and knowledge, wrongly, alchemy, god copperplate picture... He was completely insane, so he is a lonely.

His wife Ursula is a woman of flashing mother all good quality. In my opinion, she is the family foundation. The whole book is her busy figure, this womans body with another kind of loneliness.

I think the book is the most sad figures boone was the second son of Mr LeiLiangNuo. He launched numerous armed uprising, but all failed. Fortunately, life is very big, escaped the ambush, assassination, and shot, stubbornly survived. But alive may be biggest torture to him. He became fascinated by doing small goldfish, kept on doing repeatedly, as for alchemy obsession.

The characters in the book is filled with loneliness. Perhaps this is the author wants to express to us, the family of autism has brought the whole family. Similarly, the feelings without communication, a lack of trust and understanding of family also symbolizes the society at that time. Perhaps the author is to express myself in the book of Latin American national unity together, to get rid of loneliness.

"Last leaf" This article is my "Childrens Literature" on the see. When I finished reading the article, I who had a deep admiration for the artists talent and the kind of self-sacrificing spirit.

What happened was this: So a good friend of Jones, unfortunately, contracted pneumonia, in their residence out of the window there is a cluster of ivy, through the baptism of wind and rain, and its leaves have disappeared into obscurity. 。 Jones think when the last one leaves off the ivy-ray later, her life, coming to an end. SO this can not be racking their brains to dispel the idea of her, only to the downstairs, Mr. Berman for help. Berman is a painter, he knew that after a wet and windy night, in the ivy leaves off the light, when girls think that their certain death, when the old painter to allow girls to rekindle the fire of hope, he braved the wind and rain to leaves painted on the wall, for which he contracted pneumonia and died.

Read it, tears blurred my eyes, I thought of how great the old painter. Him, an ordinary painter, in order to save itself has to give up on a girl, paid with his life. I seem to see the face of it after he leaves unfinished a brilliant smile. He finally has had his wish. That is, he hopes to complete his Jingshizhizuo during their lifetime. It seems to me that he did. I think if he were alive, he would think so.

From the bottom of my heart I admire Mr. Berman, as well as the psychological Jones previously was sad. When people can not give up hope. Like our class a female classmate, she was very confident of their own. In a jumping goat, her teachers and fellow students rely on the constant encouragement, she finally jumped in the past. So, in our side, also need, as Mr. Berman did for our people to keep lit the fire of hope. In this way, our lives would flourishing.

From each of a small matter, every word from the language, one from each eye, we are little by little to build our self-confidence. Therefore, we must be careful to do things, talk, do not give up someone elses confidence. A people do not have self-confidence, nothing can be done.

When reading this article, I have been wondering: Why, Mr. Berman will be death? Because I did not know he was to die in order to draw a leaf, but did not know what was actually his paintings to their work. Until I saw the words of the last paragraph of the article. This is what the Soviet Union to the friends said, she said: "There are some things I must tell you, white mouse (Jones), Mr. Rae Mann died of pneumonia in the hospital today. He only sick for two days. The first day of the morning, to see found the door in his room very sick. His shoes and clothes were soaked, and cold Speranskia tuberculata did not know he was doing in that wind and rain the night went, only found a lantern, still lit; There is obviously just used a ladder; have a few to throw on one side of the brush; a Nianman yellow, green, two kinds of mixed-color palette, as well as ... ... my dear, you look out the window bar, wall ivy leaf on that last one! you not think Mody? Why wind and rain it does have a motionless? Oh. Dear Mr. Berman Jingshizhizuo this is?? That night, when the last leaf to fall, He took it painted on the wall. "

I have got a lot of interesting scientific knowledge from the books of National Geographic Reading Expeditions, some of which are about life, physics. I really can’t help losing myself in the colorful pictures and clear words in the books. After reading the books, I have been considering a question: What if we lived without science? Great changes have taken place in the world with the help of science. In the past, life was nasty, brutish and short. It is hard to imagine how our forefathers could do without so many conveniences that modern science brings about. Back then, only a small group of people enjoyed the very few comforts. But the majority of people didn’t even have sufficient food, let along their privilege to be educated. Anyway, it is science that changes the world and makes people’s life better and better, although it also leads to some bad aspects at the same time.

From the discovery of the gravity to the first step on the moon, we human beings have experienced a long process of developing science. And now, this process is still continuing much faster. New organisms are already being engineered, and new genetically modified crops promise benefits from higher yields and less use of harmful chemicals and so on. A lot of examples are showing this point. In the future, changes are likely to be even much greater as science reaches out to shape life itself. Maybe one day, the possibility that life existed on Mars billions of years ago will be potentially one of the greatest discoveries of our time. It is the force of the competition, we human beings’ inquiring mind and initiative that bring about the non-stopped development of science. Therefore, it is difficult and impossible to prevent science from changing the world and our life as well.

At present, we are in two minds about science. On the one hand, we are enjoying the sweet life as a result of the evelopment of science, and expect it to continue. And we are showing our interests into some scientific expeditions, such as the astronomy, the alien civilization, etc. On the other hand, we are distrustful of it, due to the lack of understanding of science. Some people thus far are still very superstitious, and they would even believe in superstitions rather than believe in science.

Stephen Hawking, one of the most remarkable scientists in the world, once said, “In a democratic society, the public needs to have a basic understanding of the science, so that it can make informed decisions and not leave them in the hands of experts.” This has reminded me of Professor Alan G. MacDiarmid from America, the person who got the Nobel Prize for chemistry in the year of XX. In his lecture at Peking University this year, he put forward that science is people. He also expounded the importance of the basic science for the public. Evidently, every one of us does need science, or we can’t live without it.

Now that everyone needs science, why not take advantage of some means to give the public the right basic scientific knowledge? So when they face the problems such as acid rain, the greenhouse effect, nuclear weapons, environment destruction and some other problems, they can also make informed decisions on these subjects, just as what Hawking said. One aspect relies on what is taught in schools. But science is often taught in an uninteresting way and most students just learn it by rote to pass examinations. However, the final goal of learning science is not to pass examinations or to get a higher score; instead, we should try to make full use of it to change our world and life. While learning, we should try to ask more questions and we should have the courage of suspecting the knowledge in the books, as some of the scientific conclusions are likely to be corrected in the future. Who knows. So not only must we change our attitude towards science, but also the way of teaching and learning science.

During extracurricular time, I finished reading The Red And The Black.

It was a typical and fundamental European work of criticism and realism which was released in the 19th century.

Throughout the whole book, it is fulfilled with the hero Julien’s experiences and final failure during his struggling life.

Especially his two love stories, which incisively and vividly revealed the hideous social ethos at the beginning of 19th century.

Besides, the book strongly deprecates the impuissance of monarch, noble and the contemptibility of church and bourgeois.

Its way of statement is really worth appreciating too.

The author is really good at revealing the serious social problem from love.

Julien’s two love experiences were tightly related to the social wind and cloud that time and it was one aspect of class struggle.

Julien indeed fell in love with Mrs. de Renal later, but he was only out of a kind of revengeful thought against dignitary at the very beginning.

Thereby, when first seizing on Mrs. de Renal’s hand, he felt that it was not the happiness out of love, but Napoleon’s victory of ambition and spree.

It is more like the satisfaction of retaliation.

If there was much of love between Julien and Mrs. de Renal in pursuit of her, there must have been no love between Julien and Mathilde but a political game.

Mathilde was a haughty and willful noble young girl.

She was profoundly influenced by French revolution.

She puerilely thought that if there would have been a new revolution, the dominator of this society must be the energetic young people like Julien and marrying him was not only romantic but also dependable.

By contrast, Julien believed that if he would have married Mathilde, he could promote his position and rapid advancement in his career and managed to cheat her love.

Published in 1847, WUTHERING HEIGHTS was not well received by the reading public, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural--and author Emily Bronte went to her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was not until 1850, when WUTHERING HEIGHTS received a second printing with an introduction by Emilys sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. And from that point the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it is widely recognized as one of the great novels of English literature.

Even so, WUTHERING HEIGHTS continues to divide readers. It is not a pretty love story; rather, it is swirling tale of largely unlikeable people caught up in obsessive love that turns to dark madness. It is cruel, violent, dark and brooding, and many people find it extremely unpleasant. And yet--it possesses a grandeur of language and design, a sense of tremendous pity and great loss that sets it apart from virtually every other novel written.

The novel is told in the form of an extended flashback. After a visit to his strange landlord, a newcomer to the area desires to know the history of the family--which he receives from Nelly Deans, a servant who introduces us to the Earnshaw family who once resided in the house known as Wuthering Heights. It was once a cheerful place, but Old Earnshaw adopted a "Gipsy" child who he named Heathcliff. And Catherine, daughter of the house, found in him the perfect companion: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel as she. But although Catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soulmate, she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station. She instead marries another, and in so doing sets in motion an obsession that will destroy them all.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS is a bit difficult to "get into;" the opening chapters are so dark in their portrait of the end result of this obsessive love that they are somewhat off-putting. But they feed into the flow of the work in a remarkable way, setting the stage for one of the most remarkable structures in all of literature, a story that circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as it plays out across two generations. Catherine and Heathcliff are equally remarkable, both vicious and cruel, and yet never able to shed their impossible love no matter how brutally one may wound the other.

As the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and one of the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into a ghostly tone: Heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is not there but who seems reflected in every part of his world--dragging her corpse from the grave, hearing her calling to him from the moors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality but so that her memory will never fade, so that she may never leave his mind until death itself. Yes, this is madness, insanity, and there is no peace this side of the grave or even beyond.

It is a stunning novel, frightening, inexorable, unsettling, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe. Even if you do not like it, you should read it at least once--and those who do like it will return to it again and again
