aircraft-flying overhead; we do not have the option of refusing to breathe

polluted air. Unlike science, progress in technology must be our slave and not

the reverse. The legitimate purpose of technology is to serve peopie--people in

general, not merely some people; and future generations, not merely those who

presently wish to gain advantage for themselves.

We are all familiar with the abuses of technology. Many people blame

technology itself for widespread pollution, resource depletion and even social

decay in general--so much so that the promise of technology is obscured. That

promise is a cleaner and healthier world. If wise applications of science and

technology do not lead to a better world, what else will?

The Festival of Lanterns takes place at the end of the Chinese New Year

Celebration, on the fifteenth day of the first moon. Lanterns have been part of Chinese life for centuries so its not surprising to see a festival of lanterns. People usually hang lanterns in the gardens, outside the houses, and on the boats. These lanterns are signposts to guide guests and spirits of ancestors to the Lunar celebration. 元宵佳节是我们中国的传统节日。元宵佳节的习俗主要就以吃汤圆为主。 The Lantern Festival is our traditional festival in China.The custom of the Lantern Festival is mainly to eat dumplings.

今年的元宵佳节我们家和以前过的不一样。以前，我们是去超市买别人已经做好了的，回家只要放在过了煮好了就可以吃了，可是那样过节是在是太没意思了。所以，今年的元宵佳节，我们自己包汤圆。

我跟着姥姥一步一步地学着。先把准备好的一包糯米倒入一个较大的碗或盆里，倒入十分之七的温水，把这个面调均匀后放好。面做好了，该弄馅了。这次是用黑芝麻馅的，买馅的时候这个是一大快，要先用刀切的一小块一小块的，不要太小，也不要太大。再把他一块一块的搓成圆形。

面和馅都做好了，就要开始包了。先从面团上掐一块面下来，捏成扁饼形，拿一粒先放在最中间，把旁边的面往上推，逐渐变成一个圆，再用手捏一捏不平的地方，搓成一个团，再在面上滚几圈，一个汤圆就完成了。

就这样，一个又一个的汤圆在我的手中诞生了。最重要的是下锅煮。先把锅里的水烧开，然后把汤圆扔进水里，煮到汤圆向上漂，水“咕嘟咕嘟”冒泡时，就是已经煮熟了。把火关了，把汤圆捞出来，就可以吃了。

吃着自己做的汤圆，心里也甜滋滋的。
