Following folk religion， the Chinese believed that the spirits of deceased ancestors looked after the family. Sacrifices of food and spirit money could keep them happy， and the family would prosper through good harvests and more children.

Today， Chinese visit their family graves to tend to any underbrush that has grown. Weeds are pulled， and dirt swept away， and the family will set out offerings of food and spirit money. Unlike the sacrifices at a familys home altar， the offerings at the tomb usually consist of

dry， bland food. One theory is that since any number of ghosts rome around a grave area， the less appealing food will be consumed by the ancestors， and not be plundered by strangers.

Honoring Ancestors

Honoring ancestors begins with proper positioning of a gravesite and coffin. Experts in feng shui， or geomancy， determine the quality of land by the surrounding aspects of streams， rivers， trees， hills， and so forth. An area that faces south， with groves of pine trees creates the best flow of cosmic energy required to keep ancestors happy. Unfortunately， nowadays， with Chinas burgeoning population， public cemetaries have quickly surplanted private gravesites. Family elders will visit the gravesite at least once a year to tend to the tombs.

While bland food is placed by the tombs on Qing Ming Jie， the Chinese regularly provide scrumptious offerings to their ancestors at altar tables in their homes. The food usually consists of chicken， eggs， or other dishes a deceased ancestor was fond of. Accompanied by rice， the dishes and eating utensils are carefully arranged so as to bring good luck. Sometimes， a family will put burning incense with the offering so as to expedite the transfer of nutritious elements to the ancestors. 我是英语课代表，所以在英语方面我是一向不敢有一点怠慢的，在之前的每一次考试中，我也是有惊无险的坐在第一名的宝座上(在这里说一句实在话，这真的是很累，每次都得付出那么多，我也都是有一些厌烦了)。但是上次的期末考试，确实让我栽了个跟头，我的英语成绩一向是维持在140分左右的，考试这次竟然130分都考不到，这让我有些惊讶，更有些害怕，在几天后的通英语老师的交谈中，我也是从她的眼神中看到了一丝失望，这让我下定决心在今后一定要更加发奋学习。

当然，在英语方面，我也是犯了一些原则性的错误。前几天，老师突然在早上检查起了作业，要知道平日里老师是很少用课堂上的时间来做这样耽误时间的事的。可是那天，也是因为我的一些失误，作业有些未完成的没有告诉老师(再说句实话，告诉老师，真的很得罪人，就是因为怕得罪人，所以.....可是，世界上哪里有不自私的人啊?!!)也是被狠批了一顿，并跟着他们被多布置了几遍作业。对此，我很是心服，我也当然知道这是不对的，是害了同学。可是我却是因为怕得罪同学，我觉得这是我思想上的问题，今后我也应当正确承担起课代表应付的责任，真心为同学服务，所以，这也应了一开始我就说的话，老师对一切同学都是一视同仁的!

这便是我的英语老师，一个能够一视同仁，为同学着想，一个真正让我心服的老师!

Last week, my friends asked me to spend the weekend in the house that near

the lake. It is one of my friends’ house, where their families often spend the

holiday together. Though the house was not big, the environment around was

really beautiful. In the daytime, we walked around the lake and appreciated the

beauty of nature. At night, we made some food and barbecued. It was such a happy

time that we sung and danced. We talked about our future thoughts. Before we

went to bed, we watched movies together and discussed the plot. This is the most

wonderful moment for us. We share our happiness and have no annoyance.

Mothers Day is a celebration honoring mothers and celebrating motherhood,

maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. Its a day to show

thanks to mothers. This festival first appeared in ancient Greece and modern

Mothers Day originated in the United States which usually falls on the second

Sunday of May each year. Mothers usually receive gifts on this day and

carnation(康乃馨) is regarded as the flower for mother. In China, the flower for

mother is day lily(萱草花), also known as Nepenthe(忘忧草). In addition, cleaning up

the room, doing housework and a big dinner are considered to be the best

Mothers Day gifts.

Lily, common name for the Liliaceae, a plant family numbering several thousand species of as many as 300 genera, widely distributed over the earth and particularly abundant in warm temperate and tropical regions. Most species are perennial herbs characterized by bulbs (or other forms of enlarged underground stem) from which grow erect clusters of narrow, grasslike leaves or leafy stems.

A few are woody and some are small trees. Evolutionally, the lily family is probably the basic monocotyledonous stock, its ancestors having given rise to the majority of contemporary monocots, e.g., the orchids, the palms, the iris and amaryllis families, and possibly also the grasses.

The relationships between plants of the modern lily family are not always clear, and some botanists subdivide the Liliaceae into several families or, if they take a broader view of the family, include some groups such as the Agave and Amaryllis families.
